Atmore Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Victim Found In Road
August 10, 2011
An Atmore man is charged with attempted murder after a man was found severely injured and bleeding in a local roadway.
The man was found lying on Airport Road near Atmore Saturday night with severe head trauma and multiple abrasions. Investigators were able to take a brief statement from the man, whose identity has not been released, before he was airlifted to a Pensacola hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Derek Coleman, 21, was later taken into custody and charged with attempted murder. He is being held in the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton on the attempted murder charge with bond set at $50,000.
Investigators are not saying exactly what happened — if the man was beaten and left in the roadway or if a vehicle was involved in the incident. The incident was investigated by the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office, Atmore Police Department and Alabama State Troopers.

Both people in this horrible accident where friends. They lived together Damn. why people always quick to point the finger.
Jdbf the cops do try n keep tha drugs down. It’s tha other people that let em outa jail so they can go rite back n do it again. It’s funny how people always wona blame cops but wen they need help who’s tha firs person u call……that’s rite A COP!!!
To those of you who like to assume. The victim was NOT on drugs!!!
Why do everything have to be about drugs, not everyone do drugs and its sad but true drugs affect ’s everyone and every walk of life its just not the poor anymore. by the way I was a single mother and non of my children is in jail they are tax paying citizens just like my self, no one deserve to be beaten and left for dead.
L A Redneck, read the post that I replied to and maybe you will understand the comment.
Bobby …. nice politicin’ there bud , this aint the sheriffs fault. I’d say that shoe fits these 2 indviduals
Jdbf1, The citizens of Escambia County had the opportunity in the last election to vote in a new sheriff who would make a change. The current sheriff has never been known for providing protection against crime and criminals. He has however been known for providing protection to crime and criminals. It was clear in the last election that either the people of Escambia County don’t want good law enforcement or they just don’t care.
Not hard to figure out…most likely drug related…send him and all the druggies to jail and let their families feed them…not the system…after a while…they wont fool with them either…seems to happen at our door and more often now than ever..where are they putting them all? Aint the jails full yet ? Hell aint half full either is it ?
Wish the cops would keep the drug trafficing around airport away!!!
He gets what he deserves…… BUT HOW IS THE VICTIM????
Derek is going to make a good butter bean picker, at the state farm.
