Arnold Found Guilty Of Murdering Pregnant Woman, Baby

August 20, 2011

A Cantonment man was found guilty Friday in the stabbing death of a pregnant Cantonment woman and her baby last summer, despite claims that the murders were self defense.

Phillip Arnold, 66, took the stand Friday, continuing to claim that he acted in self defense. He showed no emotion as the jury verdict was read — guilty of second degree murder for the death of Angela Brown, and first degree murder for the death of her baby. He will be sentenced on September 15.

“Yea, my name is Phillip Arnold. I did some stabbing up here on what’s the name of this road?…Stacey Road. “Tell police to come pick me up,” Arnold said in a 911 call on July 5, 2010.

Arnold claimed Brown had picked up knife and he stabbed her before she could stab him.

The state argued that Arnold planned the murder, saying that a witness claimed Arnold has stated that he was going to kill someone just before the murder. But the defense said the statement was just talk.

After the stabbing, Brown’s child was delivered in an emergency c-section and lived for seven hours later. The baby’s father said on the stand Thursday that Brown was six months pregnant, but defense attorneys said that was not the case and  that the baby could not have survived on its own.

What worries me is that he is clearly NOT well at this point if he can not recall and can not take responsibility for the person he was when this murder occurred. Everyone else (except possibly counsel for the defense) can see the difference between the versions of the single man in the two photos, but apparently he himself cannot. That’s what’s worrying; that’s what suggests he can accidentally slip back into that other persona and wind up killing again — because he can’t see it, won’t admit it, and will not be willing therefore to guard against it.

He gained so much weight I would not have recognized him.
Then they put him in a white shirt like he is the lawyer instead
of the killer. I hope he goes away forever, no more killing of
    children………

The defense attorneys ALWAYS have their clients cleaned up,wearing nice clothes for their trial.Puts a thought in the jurors mind, however subliminal that this is a clean cut law abiding citizen.B.S. if you ask me.they need to be in the trial just as they were in the crime,(minus the drugs).Clean them up for a good show? What a joke, but it works….

He looks a lot like Charles Dutton, the actor, in the top photo.

The story never said what penalties he might receive.
Wondering if the death penalty is on the table?

“Planning an event” What does that mean?

The first commenter noticed the same thing I did. The difference in the two pictures.

I do not see the darkness in the second, as I do in the first. It looks as though he is the same person, but that someone/something else was controlling him in the first.

The state must be planning an event for Mr Arnold, otherwise his lawyer would have took the plea bargain.

What a difference in the two pictures. I’m guessing he had some time to dry out while he was in jail.
