Another Sweltering Day, Another Excessive Heat Warning
August 4, 2011
An excessive heat warning is in effect for your Thursday — a heat index of 108 to 113 is expected by afternoon.
An excessive heat warning means the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

I had an arborist on one project we were working on tell me NC use to be zone 7 for plant selection, but now we are zone 9. There was also a piece recently that said the tropics have increased in width 2 degrees north and south, thus pushing up the arid subtropics up.
So the heat during summer seems to be here to stay for a while.
