Search Warrant In Molino Turns Up Drugs, Guns; One Arrested

July 27, 2011

A search warrant served in Molino turned up guns and drugs, and landed a Molino man behind bars.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations/Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at the residence of 26-year old Thomas Sheffield in the 9000 block of Gibson Road.

Sheffield told deputies that all of his drugs were on the back porch. That’s were deputies found over 20 grams of marijuana and a 9mm Glock handgun, according to the arrest report. Inside the house, deputies reported finding more marijuana, questionable prescription medication, a .22 caliber handgun, a SKS rifle and $1,725 in cash located on the top of the fireplace.

Sheffield was charged a felony count of marijuana possession with intent to sell and felony possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. He was released from the Escambia County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Drop the charges, what did he do wrong? Nothing…. You should be more worried about people that are shootin people in pensacola…. and get the bums off the streets

20 gram’s is not that much, less than an ounce..3gun’s are not a problem unless they are stolen or altered. 1725 dollar’s is not that much. The prescription med’s could be a problem. He is not in that much trouble, but he does need to straighten up and change his life while he still has the option.

no, no, no. Don’t talk about whether or not the weed was for his own use. Convince them someobody planted it on his back porch then ratted him out.

Weed inside? No problem. Convince them the one who framed him broke into his home and planted it too.

    Problem solved.

  4. Everett on July 30th, 2011 4:34 am

There is no gun charge-you can own a gun in your house or property.

$1,725 in cash-Who doesn’t keep emergency cash. It is hurricane season. There is no law against having cash in your home.

The weed-If it was for his own use, so what. If he’s selling it then hold him accountable for it. If not leave him alone.

He gets a good lawyer and pleads down to lesser charges and get probation.

    Wonder who ratted him out?

“they aint nobody on here but people that want 2 judge people”

    Judgmental yourself, aren’t you?

    AND
“That’s right David, learn them how to say correct english, If you can spell it and pronunciate it, it be a word”

If I forced everybody to speak correct English, I would have to start doing it myself. I generally only mention it when someone incorrectly “corrects” others.

Words are how we communicate with each other. Sometimes the proper words don’t exist yet, so we have to create them. Words get their meaning from usage. Webster created his dictionary not to tell folks how to talk and spell, but to report how people commonly did talk and spell.

Sometimes words are misused to confuse the discussion or the juror or the buyer. Sometimes they are simply used mistakenly in such a way as to reverse the intent or to make utter nonsense.

    Long ago I read:
Cooks cover their mistakes with mayonnaise.
Lawyers cover their mistakes with words.
Doctors cover their mistakes with dirt.

    JUST REPORT THE DRUGS.

    REGARDING:
“When has pot ever been legal here? Um NEVER!”

Actually, no law was always on the books.

From wikipedia: “Regulations and restrictions on the sale of Cannabis sativa as a drug began as early as 1860. Increased restrictions and labeling of cannabis as a poison began in many states from 1906 onward, and outright prohibitions began in the 1920s. By the mid-1930s Cannabis was regulated as a drug in every state”

I was watching History channel a few months back and they explained some places started to relax regulations around the seventies but President Nixon noticed the people most vocal in opposing his administration were also associated with marijuana, so he pushed through an international treaty to override any state deregulation.

The original regulations claimed the substance had no medical applications. This is obviously false but was declared anyway. Current laws allowing use for medical purposes are still in violation of international treaty, but the current administration seems to be ignoring that. (By the way, the president has the power to throw out any treaty at any time he wishes just as President Carter did with the Panama Canal Treaty.)

    David for necessary laws only

  11. Bjay on July 28th, 2011 5:20 pm

@ridiculous- This is nothing like prohibition. Prohibition was taking something already legal and making it illegal.Thats why it didnt last. When has pot ever been legal here? Um NEVER! The situations you are talking about with the 15 states are “medical prescriptions” for pot. Theres a big difference between allowing it to be prescribed for medical purposes and legalizing it. Examples would be ALL PRESCRIBED MEDICINES!

  12. Ridiculous on July 28th, 2011 5:07 pm

    @Bjay

Like it or not, these times, they are a changin.

15 states have already legalized the use and/or possession of marijuana for various reasons; with many other states presenting similiar legislation every year.

Anyone with a half an open-mind can see that this is prohibition all over again.

Didn’t work last time and it’s not working now.

Let’s stop persecuting this victimless crime and focus on more important crime issues.

It is our place as parents to teach our children right from wrong. There is a difference in protecting our children and showing them how to work for a living. When there is drugs there is crime. I don’t care what the north, south, west or east sides of town say. My children where brought up protected and it wasn’t with guns and I live in the North end. I am not judging I am stating my opinion.

Well , I cannot believe all the people on here condoning and taking up for him .. All I can say is wow . I was one the lucky ones I guess that never got pulled in that type of living . Yes I’m sure there are lots that smoked it when they were younger .. Key word being younger . As they grew up and brought precious life into this world they stopped and matured . Got a job made something of themselves . No reason for all those guns he had either . Weed is just a gateway drug . Do you really want someone out there selling drugs to your child … Do you want him or her to grow up and live that type of life , is that the future you want for your grandchildren ? No one is perfect , but what he does is wrong . And to say living that life style is not easy ?? I would rather get from the government than to sell drugs to children and parents of children !! Just saying …

smokey says- I think Bobby’s in the minority here and that shows things are changing. One day it will be legal and we’ll be able to grow and sell just like the other farmers. Then maybe Bobby can try some and see things a little dif. Don’t hate people for doing something you’re scared of.

I disagree! Just because 15 people get on here saying they approve of it doesnt mean times are changing. If you think pot is big now you should have seen it in the 70’s. The only people who defend the legalization of drugs are the ones who misspell every word and that stick up for their “boi”. What you dont realize is that most druggies dont vote. So how can it be changed? Plus if they were to legalize it there would be thousands of LEO that would lose their jobs. There seems to be a misconception on here about the alcohol and pot debate. Alcohol doesnt make everyone angry and want to fight and not all pot heads eat and lay around after smoking. I know some people that get high and then go out and fights. I can and have gone out and had drinks and went home without fighting. Whats funny is how pot heads try defending it while the rest world looks at you as a bunch of idiots. And I can go on record as saying that i have NEVER tried pot!!!!!!!!

FRANK- i like the nonjudgemental words of wisdom that youve offered- BOBBY MCGEE- i appreciate reading posts from those who stand up for what they believe in and can intelligently express themselves, even if it represents a minority opinion- actually, it may prove to be quite beneficial for mr scheffield to have so many supporters, as he will be needing PLENTY of $$money$$ orders, stamps, letters, collect phone calls, books, magazines and visits- IF he ends up in prison (3-4 hours away) for several years….been there/done that :(

  21. Frank on July 27th, 2011 8:42 pm

Thomas Sheffield I Don’t know him! But I have been through some of this! There are many thoughts about right and wrong posted on here, what should be what could be! But at this point in time it’s aginst the law to deal and possess certian subtances , he took a chance and got busted ! To some he’s a hero to some he’s a zero! Big picture, life is full of choices the question is are you leading a life that will make your children to be proud to say ; That’s my Dad he’s great! Or will they be ashamed of what they had to live through as children? There’s a lot of things I went through as a child very similer to what his children are going through right now that I did not want anyone to know about my dad and other family members, what they were doing and got busted for, I was ashamed of them! But like Tommy I found myself going down a bad road that was costing me more than I wanted to pay! When my children entered my life it woke me up to grow up and be a parent my children could be proud of and have respect for my change of life and stand for God in my life that brough those changes to pass so my children could have a dad they could depend on and know he would be there for them! Some one told me one time ;Frank your at a cross road of life ,boy you need to make some serious changes before you end up in jail or dead ! I thank God I chose correctly ! I pray for you Tommy to find the path to life that your children can be proud of ! No condemnation no judgement , Jesus is the way!

I believe it should be legal but I want illegal drug dealers in prison. You can’t sell liquor on the side of Hwy29 yet liquor is legal don’t you understand that?

I never tried marijuana when I was in college because of my scholarship. I have nothing against it but the dealers are the problem.

It seems to me that the people taking up for the criminal all seem to be from the shallow end of the gene pool. I bet your spell-check is overloaded when you type a response.

    Birds of a feather.

So while you live in people live in your perfect world. Your country is locking people up on hearsay. Thanks to all you rats and snitches. Good luck Tommy. This will make you a better man in the future.

“This guy knows that crime is never far from drugs, he had his guns close to his money. ”

I keep my guns close too, but not close to my money (or drugs) ,but just close for protection of the humble abode and family. I see no crime in protecting one’s family and possessions, especially since our law enforcement officers are busy enforcing laws that have no merit.

I know nothing of the character of this young man, but, I feel bad for his family. I have a son that has been in a similar situation and know these things tear parents to pieces. Not only is it a personal burden for the parents but also it can bring financial ruin to the parents via legal fees, court costs, time lost from work for court appearances. I hope the young man learns from this and avoids the circumstances that got him to this point in the future.

I agree with Bobby….don’t give me this “His kids have to eat stuff”. There is plenty of assistance out there that would make sure his kids ate. Tommy changed from when he was little and got caught up in the life he now lives. I’m sorry he didn’t decide to better himself and make the right choices in life that would give him the ability to support his family without slinging dope. If he doesn’t change, this life he lives will leave his kids without a daddy, and his fiance without a husband. It’s sad seeing his Facebook post, knowing that this arrest did not open his eyes one bit, with the exception of telling his other “boys” to watch out for the snakes in the grass, etc.

He needs to straighten up his life and become a productive citizen.

  38. uh huh on July 27th, 2011 9:59 am

I’m not against smoking Marijuana. I don’t only because it’s not my thing. However, I am against people making a living of selling it. Go out get a job. It is still against the law. However if we agree with it or not. We as citizens have to abide by the law.

Legalize drugs all you want but illegal drug dealers should still go to prison. Try making some moonshine and see how long you go to prison for. Alcohol is legal but only through the legal channels.

Yeah, I saw Fred Levin the other day with a big joint, some meth, and an AK47 sitting in a school parking lot. Is that what you really think? The police just leave him alone but he is doing those types of things? Collier Merrill robs banks but nobody says anything about it because, “He has connections”.

Maybe everyone in your world commits felonies but not in mine.

You imbecile, you can ask charities, the government, family, friends, etc. He looks as though he could have skipped a few meals without harming his health. He chose fast, easy money instead of doing the difficult thing: WORK.

We live in a society which means we ALL have the responsibility of deciding what is right and wrong. That is the epitome of judging people. We all know what is right and what isn’t, don’t try to take the thug way out and say, “only God can judge me”. That is BS and even the bible says different.

Marijuana should be legalized. It’s not nearly as bad for a person as drinking in my opinion. Ever known someone smoke and then want to fight? They just want to eat and lie around.
