Just had my house rewired and ask my electrician about aluminum wiring and he told me that larger gauge wires were not a issue i have it running from the meter to the inside box the electrical inspector had no issues with it at all so you have to wonder why suddenly the politicians are worried about it makes you wonder doesn’t it

“aluminum wiring and how it affects property insurance”…
How does it affect it? Rates going up? Insuring a 3br house used to cost about $300 per year. After the hurricanes in ‘04/05, the price has been all over the place and is usually several thousands per year.

I built my house back then kind of the old fashioned way never got a loan and never insured it. It has aluminum wiring to the breaker panel – what’s the problem? I’m taking the risk and keeping the premiums.

Before they worry about making changes to the code to make builders use copper wire they need to figure out how to make people quit stealing it. I looked at more than one foreclosed vacant house during a house shopping spree recently that were completely stripped of copper. They knocked holes in the walls, ripped out the plumbing, and dismantled the ac unit. So now the insurance companies have found another way to charge more, if you dont have copper wire then the price goes up? Later they can change it back if you dont have aluminum they can raise it up. Greed thats all….
So now lets add that in to why the housing market is in a slump. Oh nobody wants to buy a house with aluminum wiring because it costs to much to insure so now they have essentially de-valued our life time invests in our homes.
If its not broke don’t fix it. When will some one tell these insurance people enough is enough? Bunch of gangsters…..
