New Fast Food Restaurant Planned For Molino

July 31, 2011

Preliminary plans are underway for a new fast food restaurant in Molino.

The new restaurant will be located on an 8.4 acre lot at the corner of the Highway 97 and Highway 29, just across Highway 97 from Crabtree Church Road and the Tom Thumb.  The lot has an 850-foot frontage on Highway 29 and 1,000-foot frontage on Highway 97.

Current plans indicate that the building will be 2,474 square feet.

A pre-application meeting with the Escambia County Development Review Committee was held last week — the first step in the permitting process.

Developers have not formally announced plans for the fast food restaurant, and no estimated time for completion was available.

I have lived here most of my life. When I was a kid you knew everyone here. You did not have to worry about anyone bothering you because people looked out for each other. Slowly people started moving out here for peace and quiet and there went our peace and quiet. Change is something that we just have to live with. I agree we do need a grocery store but we get what we get.

We need a grocery store more than a fast food place. Really don’t want Molino to turn into another congestive place. How about putting it in Cantonment :)

Hardees, wendys, krystals, taco Bell, would be great…..if they build it…they WILL come

I dont think frans or tracy will be hurt with this new fast food place coming in …the fast food owner are going after one thing…..the peoples money going to the casino that is at the end of the road …the hardees across from the casino had record numbers, know mcdonalds is about to open across the road so they are looking to catch them first….everyone knows home cooked food is better so i think tracy and frans will be fine besides most of the people there after would not take time to stop for non fast food…

  7. veganrike on August 3rd, 2011 9:30 am

I hope the restaurant is all vegan! We need a vegan restaurant in Molino!

Come on Captain D’s.!! I could eat there forever!!

  9. leslie on August 2nd, 2011 4:22 pm

The last thing Molino needs is a fastfood restaurant. We have all we need in Century. Especially a 24hr. one. It will be just another place for these teenagers to waste their time.

  10. i miss on August 2nd, 2011 12:32 pm

the old molino , where we go to Frans every wednesday right before church. im 15 , and i remember when that road was dirt . i remember at the tom thumb we knew everyone that went there , but now it has them truck stops . i love that molino is expanding to new things but its not the same molino.

I love Frans, Tracy’s Grill, and the Peanut Man!!! They will never loose my business, I grew up at Frans and know most of the people who work at Tracy’s. I don’t mind having to drive to go anywhere, thats just part of living out here. I don’t mind a couple new places, but there’s a reason I live out here and thats to get away from town.

  12. huh on August 1st, 2011 8:09 pm

The best thing about Florida is the Peanut man in the picture. You get cold canned drinks and perfectly done boiled peanuts better than anywhere else.

  13. Viv on August 1st, 2011 5:22 pm

Finally! We moved up here 14 years ago and thought the county would move this way shortly there after. Not hardly. I love this area but really, we need SOMETHING!

  14. Bigol'boy on August 1st, 2011 5:05 pm

Tracy’s Grille and their chicken tenders will still be getting my lunch money either way. But my breakfast money might occasionally have to go to one of Hardee’s biscuits.

  15. Tammy on August 1st, 2011 4:56 pm

Whatever comes there will still be fast food,,,So if you want something good then look down the road OH It’s Tracey’s Grille…. come on by Sunday Dinner is great

  16. Eric on August 1st, 2011 2:43 pm

What about the hot boiled peanut man? What will become of that conversation alley?

  17. ash12 on August 1st, 2011 2:21 pm

I hope its a toco bell ! We have alot of burger places up the road. But the only toco bell is down town pensacola.. Lets think outside the bun and get a toco bell :)

I’m kind of curious how one of those UPS shops would do up here. You know they have P.O.B.’s, shipping, notary, copies, printing, Wi-Fi, etc. It would be convenient if it was more accessible than the Molino Post Office.

  19. MichelleLynn on August 1st, 2011 1:21 pm

I will NEVER stop going to Frans !! She makes the BEST Cheeseburger EVER ! Not to mention her homemade Onion Rings, Cole Slaw, Tarter Sauce, Fresh Seafood on the weekends too ! I love ALL the waitresses too ! Love ya Danine !

  20. Seriously! on August 1st, 2011 12:36 pm

    1. I support growth at the north-end of the county. If it’s handle correctly growth is a good and productive progress.
    2. Fran’s has been around for a while…food is okay, service is hit or miss.
    3. Tracie’s Grill has been good so far. Same menu choices.
    4. To HANK: Cheese and butter are good in moderation, but YOU must think we all have bad eating habits in Molino…Do your homework before you assume things about those of us living at the north-end!
    5. Fast Food is just that “fast food” – I think we all would love to save gas money to have more choices closer to Molino. But, another “fast food” place won’t get my hopes up.
    6. It’s going to happen sooner or later.
    7. A small town feeling isn’t based on the type of food places you can find. It is however, based on the hearts and souls of the people living in that small town.
    8. I love living out in Molino, the country. It’s a good place to live.

  21. bama54 on August 1st, 2011 11:01 am

I have not eaten at Frans in a long time, but this should not affect any locals at all. I want to see Molino grow for the benefit of all. Maybe one day even form some type of local government. This can only help the north end of the county, which has be left out of nearly everything at least the last 40 yrs. I have said for years Molino is the ideal location for growth. 25 miles from Atmore, 20 miles from Century, and 5/10 miles from Cantonment (which is a drive through area, and not a stop and shop area). Hope to see more growth, maybe a mall in the future, and food change in the near future. Great location for growth period!!!

Tracey’s Grill will still be my choice. Good food and Great people!

  24. Yellarhammer on August 1st, 2011 8:58 am

Its nice to have progress but don’t forget the small town people like Fran’s. We don’t want to abandon here because when Burger King opened at Chemstrand road it hurt her bad, now look at Burger King. Also I think this should start the state looking at red lights at ( county rd 196, Molino Rd. and Hwy 97 ) to slow down the traffic.

  25. Hmm... on August 1st, 2011 7:37 am

I’m with Queenbee. Fran’s also has the best Veal Parmesan you can find. Yummy… Too bad they’re not open when all the people are returning from Pensacola very late at night. I say franchise them and move Fran’s to the corner. Then, build a curving connector from all 4 directions to the intersection and eliminate the congestion and put in a light for those going straight or turning left from all 4 directions.

  26. Hank on August 1st, 2011 6:29 am

Just put lots of cheese and butter in whatever they sell at the fast food restaurant and folks will be happy.

  27. Queenbee on August 1st, 2011 6:25 am

Fran’s Country Grill just south of that location has better hamburgers than Hardees. Let’s not forget to support them!

  28. MolinoGurl* on August 1st, 2011 5:47 am

…before you know it, Molino is going to be another Cantonment or Pensacola :/

  29. MolinoGurl* on August 1st, 2011 5:47 am

I agree with concerned citizen…there trying to kill “the little man”…I’m proud of Molino…lived here all my life but I wish we could stay a “small town”…

i’d say a taco bell…open till 2am…on weekends with survielence around there cause we have teenagers that don’t act right after 10 at night =)

  32. "Bee" on July 31st, 2011 10:16 pm

So glad that Molino is growing. Some thing that is open, where people can sit after church on Wednesday will be nice. Drive through on a busy work day, and I for one love to eat.

  33. Life Long Molino Kid on July 31st, 2011 8:54 pm

It will be a good investment if it is handled correctly. Peanut Man can stay in my opinion, will not interfere with the food being sold….Just hate to see anything on that corner…going to look like we are moving up in the world and I like it rural..

  34. AlabamaChick on July 31st, 2011 7:47 pm

Why not a Taco Bell, think outside the bun!

  35. sparky on July 31st, 2011 7:41 pm

  36. RMD on July 31st, 2011 6:46 pm

AT LEAST WE GETTING SOMETHING.TOM THUMB HAS GOOD FOOD TO BUT WE NEED A HAMBURGER PLACE. MAYBE THEY STAY OPEN ATLEAST TIL MIDNIGHT.IF ITS ALL NIGHT MIGHT CREATE BAD CROWD HANGING AROUND.THERE ARE ENOUGH NO GOOD CRIME GOING ON AROUND HERE.

  37. Concerned citizen on July 31st, 2011 6:43 pm

Just a chain that has plenty of backing money to come along and take business fron the small independent restaurants .This is why so many mom and pop places go out of business. I like hardees too but just not here .

  38. Me on July 31st, 2011 6:00 pm

What about a Chick Fil a? Or a Taco Bell!!

  39. Stacey on July 31st, 2011 5:36 pm

Some people wouldn’t be happy no matter what….I’m glad, I love Hardee’s :)

  40. wondering on July 31st, 2011 4:19 pm

I say to heck with Hardee’s………..let;s put up a Satanic church. In the strip mall beside it lets put up a Mosque, and require children of all demoninations to attend it up to age 5. People quit bitchin about everything. I am grateful that they are putting any fastfood place. Thank goodness it is here.

  41. littlerainy on July 31st, 2011 3:56 pm

Am hopeing when we put up my dad’s property in October, for sale on highway 29 in Molino it will sale to a fast food or some type of business. It is almost 12 acers.

I have though for years, Molino needed a fast food, Nothing from Gonzalas to Century on 29. Molino is a small town, I grew up in Molino. Highway 29 is a very busy place and really you can’t go any further south. Sooner or later it will build up out that way.

  42. Just sayin' on July 31st, 2011 2:46 pm

This was voted on several years ago. The winning vote was for a Waffle House, but it was told that there would not be anything finalized for several years…..and it’s still not final. It could still be anything.

  43. my2cents on July 31st, 2011 2:29 pm

I’m with “Walnut Hill Roy” on all accounts.

I’m all for building business, but sometimes you just need to leave a good thing alone.
I would consent that a grocery store would be nice for the area…..too bad the other one closed down……but definitely NOT in that spot.

Sometimes “small towns” need to just stay “small towns”.

  44. just wait..... on July 31st, 2011 1:03 pm

Just wait and see….I have thought for a long time that corner would be great for a fast food place. If Hardee’s or anyone else succeeds in putting a place there, Whataburger, Waffle House, and who knows else will follow. The first one usually makes out well and when the other see the success, they will want to get in on the money, too.

  45. Tammy on July 31st, 2011 1:02 pm

O.K. be happy with whatever it is,,, Maybe this will help get a RED light there,,,

  46. BarrineauParkDad on July 31st, 2011 12:08 pm

Hardees is OK, but I would also prefer a Whataburger, Waffle House or even a Churches Chicken.

  47. Aaron on July 31st, 2011 11:00 am

    Maybe a jack without a box ?

Starting to see a red light in this locations future.

    Hardee’s

  49. Andrae Pope on July 31st, 2011 10:11 am

No hardee’s!!! We need a Whataburger!!!

  50. Me on July 31st, 2011 9:57 am

Heard it was going to be a Wendy’s from someone at the permit office.

  51. Gip on July 31st, 2011 9:48 am

I believe it’s a great location. It may make the intersection better if DOT engineers it right. As far as the brand of store, who cares, it’ one more choice in an area with very few choices. I think a light and then 4 or even 3 lane to around the school so traffic could get sorted out by speed without someone getting run over or have a head on trying to get around slower traffic.

  52. barrineau on July 31st, 2011 9:36 am

Molino…. the quiet little town that used to be.

  53. people-r-crazy on July 31st, 2011 9:18 am

I agree with a couple of the other posters I want a Waffle House!

  54. Baebae on July 31st, 2011 8:48 am

If you dont die in a car crash at the intersection…the 99 cent heart attack will get you now..but I do love the Hardee biscuits…MMM…MMMM good

  55. HS on July 31st, 2011 8:34 am

The traffic at this intersection is already congested and as most of know there have been numerous accidents. Possibly, an alternate location away from that intersection…and I agree a Waffle House would best suit our needs here where at least you can get a decent meal 24 X 7.

  56. Molino-Anon on July 31st, 2011 8:11 am

I was just telling my girlfriend the other day, if someone wanted to make some bucks, and catch all the traffic from century, atmore, and penacola, they would build a fast food place right in that spot! A Hardee’s, McD’s, Taco Bell, KFC, etc. now whalaa!

To bad I do not eat red meat… I hope they have a vegetarian menu :P

  57. joe on July 31st, 2011 7:52 am

Finally Maybe. This could be the beginning of growth for Molino We also need a grocery store.

  58. Jane on July 31st, 2011 7:34 am

If the restaurant goes in we will need a traffic signal to avoid all the accidents with people going in 6 different directions at this intersection! But I guess progress is coming to Molino, along with any associated problems.

  59. Walnut Hill Roy on July 31st, 2011 7:15 am

It will do nothing but make that intersection even more confusing and as I’ve said many times, a traffic light will do nothing but put more accidents further up 97 as people try to pass slower drivers. If they are smart, they will have no entrances or exits on route 97, only on route 29 as there are enough distractions feeding route 97 at that point. You can’t tell someone not to build on their own property, but I personally find the thought of a fast food restaurant there to be appalling.

  60. deBugger on July 31st, 2011 7:05 am

AWWW what’s gonna happen to the Peanut Man and they need a WHATABURGER instead ;)

  63. Hungry In Molino on July 31st, 2011 6:47 am

Waffle House is what we need. Good grub 24/7

  64. Queenbee on July 31st, 2011 6:37 am

That area is so rural. It just won’t look right at that location. Usually there is a fruit stand and a peanut stand. That looks more country. A fast food place at Muscogee Rd., and Hwy. 29 in Cantonment is way past due.

  65. Michael on July 31st, 2011 5:56 am

Wow, there goes the neighborhood, guess it will not be long…..Wendy’s, BK, maybe a Sonic.

  66. Kim on July 31st, 2011 5:31 am

Now if Molino could just get a wal-mart ! Glad to see growth in Molino for the north end!

  67. Everett on July 31st, 2011 5:21 am

A Krystal would be nice. An idea would be to tear down the Tom Thumb and put in a truck stop with a Krystal and Hardees or Subway. There are several of these along interstate 65 in Alabama (Love’s truck stops). There is certainly enough truck traffic to support one. It would create lots of jobs and boost the area’s economy. I wouldn’t have to drive to fairfield or 9th avenue to get a Krystal.

  68. capt on July 31st, 2011 2:25 am
