Kevin White Prefiles To Run Again in 2012

July 7, 2011

Two-term incumbent Kevin White of Molino has announced that he is running again for his Escambia County District 5 Commission seat.

“There are a lot of projects that I want to see to completion,” White said. “And I want to continue to reduce the budget, which has been reduced over $100 million since I first took office.”

White, a Republican, was first elected to the seat in 2004 and re-elected in 2008. He pre-filed his qualification papers for the commission seat on Wednesday.

Three other candidates have also prefiled for the job. They are Republicans Sam Archer and Jim Taylor of Cantonment and Dennis Wiggins of Century, who is running with no party affiliation.

KEVIN WHITE WILL GET MY VOTE AND SUPPORT AGAIN THIS TIME. HE HAS DONE ALOT FOR OUR END OF THE COUNTY ,STOP FUSSING AND TAKE A LOOK AROUND. SOME OF THE PEOPLE ON HERE THINK EACH OF THE 5 DISTRICTS HAVE FREE RUN OF THE COUNTY CHECKBOOK TO DO WITH AS THEY PLEASE. IT DON’T WORK THAT WAY. JUST BECAUSE YOUR PET PROJECT DIDN’T GET DONE , YOU WANT SOMEONE NEW PUT IN PLACE.THERE ARE PROBLEMS IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE TOO ,BUT I REALIZE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE IN THE DIST. WITH WANTS AND NEEDS. IT HAS TO DO WITH THE GREATER GOOD AND A BUDGET. IT’S NOT MAGIC! IF YOU THINK IT’S SO EASY TO DO EVERY PROJECT EVERY TIME …MAYBE YOU SHOULD RUN FOR OFFICE AND PLEASE US ALL , ALL OF THE TIME. I’M VOTING FOR KEVIN WHITE AGAIN.

Hello Dennis. I guess you did not know, how business is conducted in Escambia county. Things are going to change soon, about the time Sammy Archer gets seated in his new job.

I have been talking with members of the Dirt Road Paving Committee (did you even know we have one?). From what I have gathered one of the major disappointments was Pelt Road. It WAS paved (and much needed) but at unnecessary expenses to the tax payers. The county has an engineering department, but the Commission hired an outside firm to come in and survey the road – which could have been done by ANY decent engineer already working for the county. Additionally completely unnecessary expenses were incurred. How can Mr. White possibly reduce the budget when he is spending money unnecessarily? I guess if you don’t mind OUR money being wasted, keep him in office. Otherwise, it’s time for him to go!

White needs to go…he’s been on the BOCC too long and it’s more of the same old thing… Need some new blood and ideas…

LADY: Sure, move to Ala. Pay sales tax on drugs, groceries and and just about any thing else they can find to tax. You’ll also love paying the STATE INCOME TAX if you or a family member is still working. They also have zoning in some area’s and restrictions on other land use. I wonder how many of the commenters have been to a commission meeting and know first hand what White and the rest have to put up with? While it’s true they have staff to help there are other meeting they have to go to. If you want a change—- run for the office and make every thing right and wonderful.

Until they change the way the district is divided the North end will never get anyone elected that runs from this area. All the people even across 9-mile road have to vote on our commissioner. We need someone from this North end to get elected but all who have ever run couldn’t because the South end of district had more votes.
We should be annexed into Alabama. They don’t pay the property taxes, insurance, or have the strict zoning so you cannot leave your children an acre of land to build on. This needs to be changed but when it was enacted, a person from the North was on that committee and didn’t know anything about the land owners and how much land they had in the north end of county – didn’t even know where it was and that’s a fact because I was involved. Here again, not enough in district to carry a vote of any kind up north.

Liz, You said that just right , i reckon people are not pleased unless they get handouts,

  9. 429SCJ on July 8th, 2011 4:05 am

I want to reduce the budget. I think thats what Disraeli said about the Irish. The north end roads have been STARVED for funds. Sam Archer in 2012!

Give it a rest .The good ol boy system needs to go.Things are changed, only when those benifit from them. When you have to boast about what has been done..it is shadowed by so much more that hasn’t…
The present Rep is out of touch with so many up here..unless it means development…or support for votes.
All you hear when something is questioned,,,,thats another departments job or I’ll check into it.
Enforce your position in all it’s power…The rubbing of elbows and longevity of friendship should not be the bases for someone to be in a position any longerThere are so many under your supervision that are just wasting space and getting paid for it. Don’t just skate the system until it’s time to get serious again..The thought of unemployment is scary isn’t it.

Just recently paved Nicholson Rd, Pelt and Seales Rd.

Widened and resurfaced Barrineau Park rd, Hwy 97 south of Muscogee Rd, resurfaced Molino Rd

Drainage and resurfacing on Muscogee Rd.

Work on the roads at Tate School.

Time and memory prevent further waste of breath. The point is a lot has been done and apparently forgotten by the few who have yet to feel the LOVE.

Some of us remember and will vote for MR WHITE.

  12. Brooke on July 7th, 2011 1:35 pm

Sam Archer 2012 is the right vote. District 5 has been unrepresented for too long.

  13. JSCS on July 7th, 2011 1:16 pm

Hello Kevin. We sure would like to see you up here on hwy.99 S and N too. You could REALLY get some votes if those roads were on the paving list. They are in terrible condition and getting worse every day. LOTS of houses on these roads and lots of traffic. How much traffic is on Sunshine Hill Road? Just curious!

  14. Robert Thomley on July 7th, 2011 12:54 pm

If he is an incumbent in this county he need’s to go. I don’t care who he is. The only way this county will get better is if they All Go.

  15. bmr on July 7th, 2011 11:57 am

I hope he reads this, I hope he looses, what has he done for the north end of the county?,I will tell what……NOTHING.

  16. Bjay on July 7th, 2011 11:24 am

Kevin has my vote. Ive had to call him on 2 different issues and he has resolved them both within a week. He has done a great job while in office. Im sorry your road hasnt been paved yet. It doesnt mean that its not on the books. Thats a pretty long road and will cost a lot of money to do so maybe he is looking for funding for it. Maybe there is a plan to get to it in a couple months. Either way thats a sorry excuse to bash someone.

  17. molino jim on July 7th, 2011 11:23 am

Let me get this right—if White helps someone with a problem it “just a pay off or a “pay back”. If he is unable to help it’s “because he’s doing nothing for or cares nothing about the north end of the county”. White is only one of five and if he can not work with the other four he can never get any thing done. In the print paper today he would like to do away with the money loosing hockey at the civic center—one of the other County Commissioners wants to keep it. White has to some times go along to get along and get things for the north end. There are a lot of good things that have happened up here. The new park in Bratt is one thing. As far as road work I don’t know if any of you have priced the cost of paving—it is darn high. The repaving and or paving has to be done where it can be of use to the most people. Repave and some of the heavy trucks cut ruts in the roadway in short order. Please look at the others who are running and ask what have they done in their free time for the county. Forget that their father was such a nice person and so on. White does have a business run also.

  18. bama54 on July 7th, 2011 11:08 am

If he repaves Stout Rd, he will get my vote and a some of my neighbors that I have talked with. I can see at least 25 votes!!! Go Mr. White in 2012, unless you don’t pave the road!!!!

Everytime I sit in grid locked traffic coming North on Hwy 29, all can think about is how Kevin White sold out his constituents because the folks in Scenic Hills did not want a Hwy close to their beloved Golf Course. The County was trying to stop the grid lock by creating another passage north and his was the vote that stopped the project. The only part of District 5 he works hard for is the golf course in the southeastern tip. Let someone from Scenic Hills call him and he dances like a chicken on a hot plate… Not sure who I am voting For yet, but darned sure it won’t be the Scenic Hills Dancing Chicken…

    Archer 2012!!

  21. Liz on July 7th, 2011 10:20 am

@tallyho, not sure what you’re trying to infer but my friends own a business in our district, and he really seemed to care about helping them resolve a rezoning issue. i’m sorry if i made it sound like it was something for one of his friends because it was one of mine. we all think he’s doing a good job and truly seems to care about our area. we don’t have big money to throw at him, so the only thing he can get in return for all the help to me and them are a few votes. that’s all.

also, i would think people would live up here would be pleased that the west side of 196 got resurfaced, but i guess YOU don’t travel it often. some people are impossible to please unless they get a personal handout and others are obviously pulling for his opponents.

kevin really seems to care, so he’s getting our support because we appreciate the job he’s doing.

  22. Kathy on July 7th, 2011 9:24 am

I vote for Kevin, the road crew was jerking me around for years until Kevin got into office and I showed him he actaully came to Molino and looked and go thte problem solved. He is a good man, and a great commissioner.

  23. tallyho on July 7th, 2011 8:46 am

Had time to help a freind of mine, people does this sound familar? Got my road paved, hwy196. Paying back the people i know whom put time and money out to elect me.

  24. Well on July 7th, 2011 8:11 am

    Dang !!!

I guess you can’t please em all and some of these will never be happy.

Still have my vote. GOOD LUCK !!!

  25. Native 1950 on July 7th, 2011 7:50 am

Oh please!!! Kevin has not ever done anything for us, why should he start now??? Do us a favor Kevin and just stay home and watch your grass grow…or something useful like that!!! VOTE SAM ARCHER!!!

  26. Liz on July 7th, 2011 7:45 am

White has always responded quickly when I have a problem and seems to really care. He also took time to help out a friend of mine when they had a business rezoning issue. Glad 196 got resurfaced. I didn’t know about hte county budget being reduced $100 million dollars. Wow! Sure has my support.

  27. Native 1950 on July 7th, 2011 7:39 am

Oh please!!!! Kevin has not done anything for us yet…why start now??? We all know the real person he is. Just stay home Kevin and watch your grass grow or something useful like that!

  28. tallyho on July 7th, 2011 7:33 am

Kevin who? has anyone seen him up in the north end. Running again, i reckon he still owes someone for there support and has not finished up paying them back yet in the south end. VOTE, VOTE AND VOTE!!! The ones whom are registered need to get off the pourch and vote and not just talk about it. Just like ECAU member that would come by Bratt in the north end and was asked about the money that was spent for the nice showers and perk at there new building. He and his other two voting buddies need to go on the chopping block, voted theirself a raise while trying to raise the garbage pick up. WE ARE NOT STUPID JUST BECAUSE WE LIVE IN THE COUNTRY!!! VOTE PEOPLE

  29. Connie on July 7th, 2011 7:29 am

Kevin is a great guy, and we need him in office, Vote Kevin White. His got my vote…..

  30. 429SCJ on July 7th, 2011 7:01 am

Doing little is not a great way to reduce a budget. Justa you are right about hwy 99. I am reminded of WWII bombers, flying through heavy anti aircraft fire, when I travel hwy 99. constant buffetting.

  31. Justa? on July 7th, 2011 6:36 am

When you vote don’t forget that Hwy 99 on the north end has been all but forgotten with no explaination whatsoever. Absolutely Ridiculous!

  32. hey people on July 7th, 2011 4:55 am

Are you kidding? Haven’t we suffered enough?

  33. Liz on July 7th, 2011 3:33 am

That’s the first I’ve heard about the county budget being reduced $100 million dollars. That’s pretty amazing!

He’s got my support cause he once helped me with an issue and also went out of his way to help a friend with a business rezoning. He called back quickly and really seemed care.

I’m happy, too, because a major road I drive got paved. :)

  34. Doc on July 7th, 2011 12:30 am

Why all of a sudden do you want to see something finished or get proactive in the northend? Oh yeah, that’s right, its coming up on election time again!

  35. me on July 7th, 2011 12:18 am

    YIPPPPIE!!!! NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please stand up and vote this year..we need change and change for the good in the north end..not just someone who will get in there and suck up to the big money guys
