Laundry Room Fire Forces Partial Evacuation At Century Care Center

July 24, 2011

A small fire Sunday morning forced a partial evacuation of the Century Care Center.

The fire was reported in the laundry room of the nursing home about 7 a.m. and was quickly extinguished. However, due to smoke in the building, many residents were evacuated outside for a short time period.

The fire caused little damage and no injuries were reported.

The Century, McDavid and Walnut Hill stations of Escambia Fire Rescue and the Flomaton Fire Department responded to the call.

Editor’s note: We received several emails about LifeFlight landing the during the incident at the nursing home. LifeFlight landed at the EMS Post behind Century Care Center on a medical call that was not related to Century Care Center.

This is for thinks too hard…. The apparatus in mention only cost $300,000 not $500,000. You should also attend the fire college and you would know why apparatus are parked at different places on emergency scenes. The fire was handled quickly and no one got hurt, job well done… i know you are not a firefighter or you would have known what the apparatus cost and why the apparatus was staged where it was…. If you are, you are the dumbest one ever and i suggest you quit before you get yourself or someone else hurt….

@thinks to hard. Most departments stage their first due pumper on the FDC (Fire Department connection) to facilitate pumping the sprinkler system. It looks like this is no different. I love how people with no working knowledge of the fire service are so quick to make an armchair quarterback call.

we the people of this county should be proud of the equipment and the firefighters that we have in this county and i bet that e-1 was proud of it too when they sold it to the county

Oh gosh! Glad to hear that this was taken care of and that no one was injured. Wasn’t there another fire at the care center not too long ago as well?

haha @ thinks to hard.. your doing exaclty that. Thinking to hard. Like ref says, let the guys that do that job use their training and knowledge to decide where a firetruck fits best.

    @ thinks to hard
They do make reverse on that model an no smoke or fire showing exposed through the roof. Firetruck wasn’t i’n any immediate danger would be my guess..leave the firefighting to the guys who do all the training to know where to park their firetrucks would be a good start …

Me thinks that $500,000 fire truck probably shouldnt be parked so close to a building that may or may not be burning??????
