FHP Still Out In Force

July 4, 2011

The Florida Highway Patrol will be out in full force during the Independence Day holiday weekend.

All uniformed FHP personnel, including those normally assigned to administrative duties, will patrol interstates and other major roadways during the  holiday period. FHP Auxiliary and Reserve troopers will volunteer to augment the Patrol’s forces during the holiday enforcement period, too. The strategy aims to increase the Patrol’s presence throughout Florida in an effort to deter traffic violations and to enhance services to motorists who break down while traveling or who need other assistance.

The Patrol encourages motorists who experience car trouble on the highway or who otherwise need assistance from the FHP to dial *FHP (*347) from your cell phone. FHP urges motorists to contact FHP or local law enforcement officials to report an impaired, aggressive or dangerous driver. Callers may remain anonymous.

The question remains, not how many Troopers you might see, but how many might have seen you. They are spread thin. This is not the Florida Highway Patrol of thirty or forty years ago. The current Governor is talking about doing away with the FHP, as well as other state law enforcement agencies, in an attempt to rein in the state budget. The trade-off is the individual counties Sheriffs Departments will have to take up the slack, resulting in higher taxes on the local level. Be careful out there.

These are some of the silliest comments I have seen yet.
A family member trooper has the weekend off therefore no increased presence.
Saw them on 29 where’s the rest. How bout maybe spread throughout the rest of the state.
Do you really think a trucker based out of California or any other state has a “friend in high places” in Escambia County Florida?
    Com’on folks. Get real.

Well I saw them out rolling up and down hwy 29, I don’t know where the
rest of you were. They also were again planted at the bait shop like
we all don’t know they do that. They also were planted somewhere on
the back road close to the funeral parlor, like we don’t know they do
that. I guess the only ones they are after are the out of towners.

The people here that keep trying to run everyone else off the road,
crossing double lines, drinking going down the road are our own
nice truckers and I guess they won’t write THEM TICKETS.

Some of them must know ppl in high places and that’s why
THEY are ABOVE THE LAW. I believe the sheriff want’s things done,
I believe our officers themselves are just “good ole boys”.

the article says ‘The strategy aims to increase the Patrol’s presence throughout Florida’ – not “throughout Molino”

I believe you Nan….it is a joke. I saw more troopers this past week then I have driving thru Molino the last 2 days. People are driving erraticly and speeding right thru and no troopers in sight.

This is a joke. I have a family member who is a trooper and he has taken off for the entire 4th of July weekend. Trust me there are no extra troopers on the road.
