Family Says Men Wrongly Attempt To Pick Up Child In Molino

July 29, 2011

A Molino family says someone wrongly claiming to be from a local church tried to pick up a 5-year old child today on Chance Road.

Family members said that three men in an older gold-colored car  asked for the 5-year old by name, saying that they were there to give him a ride to Vacation Bible School at Highland Baptist Church. They vehicle was reportedly in their driveway when the family arrived home.

But the family said they were aware that Vacation Bible School is not going on this week at Highland Baptist. Before leaving the area, the boy’s family said the men went to four different houses in the neighborhood.

Brian Calhoun, pastor at Highland Baptist Church, confirmed that the church does not have any children’s activities going on Friday and that no one from the church tried to pick up the child.

“We don’t just stop by houses and pick up children without the parents knowing in advance,” he said.

There was no further description available of the vehicle or the three men.

    To Old Marine:
See in the kinder, gentler nation we live in, we don’t need to own these vicious dog breeds. After all, they might bite someone.

I hope you could detect the sharp note of sarcasm. People cannot afford to own protective breeds anymore, because if they do, they cannot get homeowner’s insurance. Renters certainly cannot own them.

I think it’s a bunch of crap!!! We are Americans. We should be able to own the animals we wish as long as we are responsible owners. If that Doberman, Rotweiler, German Shepherd, etc. are in a fenced yard & you go in that yard & get bitten….too bad. Quit penalizing animals for doing their job. Penalize the owners for irresponsibility.

@OldMarine-because most rental homes do not allow pets inside or out!

How did they not get a tag number? I would have written down the tag number then decided if I needed it later, especially with them asking for the child by name and going to other houses.

This makes me sick to my stomach. I hope that the police can find these men. But I guess nothing will be done because they didn’t actually do anything. But it is just a matter of time!! watch your babies like a hawk!!

There is a Mid-County Neighborhood Watch meeting every 4th Monday at Aldersgate church at 6:30pm on HWY. 29. One of the things we have discussed is how to report incidents like this to the police. Get a car tag number, occupent discriptions, direction of travel. This is why we have a neighbor hood watch! Please come…everyone is welcome! It does not matter where you live…please come visit and join if you want to…or start your own Neighborhood watch! Contact David Craig at 438-9281 if you are interested.

the world has changed thanks to Progressive liberalism. I always had our Male German Shepard go everywhere my children went back in the day when I worked 100+ hour weeks.
has anyone noticed that none of the home invasion victims owned a large dog who would give its life for them? wonder why?

The family members saw the gold car and could not supply any other information about the three men or car ? The write up says they ask for the child by name—who did they ask ? They went to four other houses—did none of these people have any better information on the men and/or car ?

Get tag numbers of suspicious vehicles.
Note physical characteristics of the occupants.
    Demand identification.
