Woman Charged With Battery On Her Elderly Mom

June 29, 2011

A Flomaton woman remains behind bars, accused of battery on her 74-year old mother as they traveled a Century road.

Sunceree Covan Bledsoe, 46 of Pecan Leaf Lane, was arrested this week on an outstanding warrant for battery on a person 65 years of age or older. She is in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $25,0000.

According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Bledsoe got into an argument with her mother on June 18. As Bledsoe’s father was driving the two along Highway 4 near North Century Boulevard, Bledsoe allegedly grabbed her mother’s hair and struck her at least two times, including once with her purse against the 74-year old’s face.

The mom and dad put Bledsoe out of the vehicle along Highway 4 and then drove to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Century Precinct to report the incident. Deputies found Bledsoe walking along Highway 4 and transported her to the precinct for questioning.

The 46-year old Bledsoe told deputies that her mother tried to hit her, and she hit her mother as she tried to get her to stop. Bledsoe was placed under arrest. According to the arrest report, Bledsoe  then cut herself with small piece of glass that she had on her person as she sat in the back of the deputy’s vehicle. She was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Amazing how drugs can destroy a life and the lives of those around them.

RE: David – I do think a person that speaks of themselves in THIRD person ALL the time may have some mental issues; not necessarily insane.

You never know how badly some elderly people are treated, and sometimes it isn’t their children…sometimes it is people who should be caring for them. If an older person tells you they are being hurt, stolen from, whatever…try to look into it or have someone else look into it. Let a social worker know or the children or the police. They don’t deserve to be mistreated no matter how difficult it may be to care for them! Remember you might have been a difficult child once! I would give anything to have my Mom back so she could be hard to care for….just so I could do good things for her anyway!

Her parents have put up with bad behavior out of her all her life. They have already been thru enough with her. She is evidently still just as “unstable” acting as others have seen her in the past. I hope she never gets the chance to mistreat them or anyone else, especially elderly, ever again! Lots of jail time should fix that!

    REGARDING:
“I bet she tries to claims INSANE as her defense!! ”

Don’t forget, some people ARE insane.

    David, living proof
(though I’ve never even considered hitting Mama)

What a sad, sad, story! This poor woman needs prayer. I cannot imagine ever hitting anyone, let alone your Mother. Mine will turn 90 in a matter of days and I cherish every moment with her.

Sunceree iis well known to local Criminal Justice – what a terrible waste of her life and the lives of the people she hurts.. There is a lot more to this story than most people know. I hope there is still something someone or some agency can do for her and her family.

This lady approached me the other evening at the Foodgiant in Century begging for a ride to Flomaton and I refused because she seemed unstable. Now i’m so glad I followed my intuition. I see now why she was so desperate to get out of Florida. There is no excuse for what she done to her mother. Hope this lady turns her life around.

Oh I hope they throw the book @ her!! I really hate hearing about the “elderly abuse” but not by a family member!! I lost my mom when I was 7 yrs old..WHAT I WOULD DO TO HAVE THE CHANCE TO HAVE MY MOM!!!!

Poor parents. Still raising a crazy 46 year old. No telling what they have endured in the past to finally decide to go to the police. I hope they will be safe when she gets out.

I feel for these parents, to have to deal with a violent adult child, in the autum of life. I hope incarceration and treatment will improve matters for Ms Bledsoe and her family.

sadly, it wouldnt surprise me if this was not the first time that she “allegedly” assulted her parents…im just glad that the incident was properly reported…i just did some manditory education on domestic violence yesterday…turns out that, according to statistics, the elderly are less likely to even report domestic abuse when it happens, than younger adults….in this case, it sounds like a much needed anger control class (among other things) is in order.
