Investigation Continues After Woman, 31 And Her Boyfriend, 16, Shot

The investigation is continuing today into a shooting Saturday night in Century that injured a 31-year old woman and her 16-year old boyfriend.
About 8:30 Saturday night, deputies responded to the 7500 block of Jefferson Avenue for a reported shooting. Deputies were told by a 31-year-old female victim that she and her 16-year-old boyfriend were shot as they were sitting in a vehicle in front of a residence.
The victims said that another vehicle, possibly a dark colored Hyundai, pulled in behind them and blocked them in. One of the occupants then exited the suspect vehicle and began shooting, injuring both the female and male victims.
The suspect was described as described as a black male of medium height with a thin build and wearing a red ball cap.
“There are a number of things we are looking at in this investigation,” said sheriff’s department spokesman Deputy Chris Welborn. “The relationship between the victims is also being looked at.”
The victims left the area and drove to the 9500 block of Ivey Street to call 911. The male victim was transported by private vehicle to Jay Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The female victim was transported by ambulance after being questioned by deputies. Her injuries were also non-life threatening.
The incident remains under investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and further details have not been released.

I think most people say that because they know where it is, who it was and WHAT they are. It’s pretty simple really. 1 + 1 = 2

They say it because it seems reasonable to them.
Home invasion type crimes take place in homes.
Bank robberies take place in banks.
Domestic disputes take place in domiciles or with family involvement.
Speeding type crimes take place on major highways, not on 4th street.
Job related crimes take place on the job.
Drug crimes often take place on side roads such as this. Also there is the fact that other drug related crimes have already taken place near this spot in the past. People tend to see patterns.
And then, as you pointed out, there’s the fact that it took place in Century. What kinds of crimes are most commonly reported in Century?
Once again, people tend to see patterns.
Or consider shootings from one car to another, most reports of such involve drug related activity–often two dealers/gangs fighting over territory.
Sticking to the patterns.
It’s possible the whole thing sprang from a theological dispute which got out of hand but not especially probable.
It could have been love related. Jealousy is a powerful motivator, but this seems an unlikely spot to have such a dispute over love. Further, usually jealous people don’t travel in packs or shoot both parties.
If you have further information pointing to some other type of crime, you have our permission to share it. You don’t even have to rat anybody out, just suggest some other cause.

@ Uptown – I cannot speak for everyone on this forum but I can say that a drive by shooting, drug houses, people going to a hospital in a completly different direction of the closest hospital…………that stuff is not surprising anymore since it happens everyday. Now a 31yo woman with a 16 yo man………that is very surprising and the fact that she is not in jail, well that just takes the cake.

IT’S SAD THAT HE GOT SHOT BUT HIS GIRLFRIEND SHOULD BE ARRESTED FOR HAVING A 16 YEAR OLD BOYFRIEND AND HIS MOM SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH CHILD NEGLECT AND/OR CHILD ENDANGERMENT , SHE IS AWARE OF HER CHILD DATING THIS OLDER WOMAN. WOW!!! 31 yr. old female with a 16 yr. old boyfriend! That’s robbing the cradle just a bit…Where are the parents of this 16 yr. old child??? Hopefully this whole investigation about everything will find the truth of it all, where as it be drug related or a jealousy thing.

It’s not only Century with the druggies that need to be cleaned up, it’s all over. But I really do wish that they would get cleaned up and get help to stop all of these drugs.
Sure, you do the drugs and it makes you feel good maybe for a little while; but then again we’re back to the actions before thinking. These drugs are killing you people!

Bob, I have to agree with you, “when stuff go down” enough said. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? This area is like alot of areas in our county, they were once good areas and have slowly down down hill, the elderly and poor are trapped and until it is reclaimed, things like this will happen. Hopefully innocent people will not be hurt until then. ( oh and by the way there are the so called good people who frequent the drug areas for there purchases and often the element will follow them home) hope that so called .01% doesnt show up at your house.

It COULD be a completely platonic relationship. One thing is certain: charging people without testimony, complaint or evidence of wrongdoing is just wasting the court’s time.

don’t know why a 31yr old and 16yr old are together? but it did say their relationship was bein checked into….also the other car pulled up and blocked them in and started shooting….they probably left and called somewhere else because they were scared the car would come back and block them in again and shoot at them again??? maybe they didn’t have a cell phone and had to go somewhere that they felt safe and had a phone??

Why was this 31 year old woman out with a 16 year old boyfriend, I thought this was against the law, he is a minor. If it had been a 31 year old male with his 16 year old girlfriend, he would go to jail.
@MY POINT IS.. Over the years I have heard or read of hundreds of “drive by shootings”, and I honestly cannot recall the first one that occured in a nice neighborhood.. 99.99% of the time, this type of violence occurs in drug infested areas inhabited by people that for whatever reason do not cooperate with law enforcement to try and end the problem and better themselves..
I say form your own posse if you people have lived there a long time and know
each other. Get on the sheriffs tail till the deputies do their jobs. In small towns
everyone knows who the the trouble makers are, but your deputies have to care. If they won’t do their jobs (keeping the small town safe) then demand their badges,
they work for you. There are a lot of good honest people out of work right now,
someone better will take the job.

Wow…..you really are not thinking straight if you think someone else can go over and “take” someone elses kids. Lots of drug dealers have kids and just because you want to save them, doesn’t mean you can. You would know that there are kids that live there, if you have to live near it and see the things the rest of the neighbors and I see. Not everyone turns a blind eye. As far as going over there and being associated with them no…..never have. But when you see dozens of vehicles drive up every single day and someone runs out and they exchange items….. I’m almost positive its not recipes they are exchanging! Get a clue about what life is really about.

It is very strange that the victoms drove from one side of town to the other side of town to call for help, and why on earth didn’t the victoms go straight to the hospital, since one victom was shot? This is kind of behavior in our country is pathetic. I do hope that the shooters were caught and that the victoms are ok… Something does sound pretty fishy about this crime though…
We haven’t done a “Project Clean Sweep” up there yet? Seems to me the Druggies have just moved up there since the fools got ran out of Cottage Hill and they aren’t all gone from here either. They will call you friend and put on a good show. At the end of the day no good comes from these low-lifes, I try not to judge people but there is no other words to describe them. My prayers go to the victoms and I hope they will get away from this kind of thing. What are the undercovers doing? I hope they keep in mind some low-lifes are very well dressed and polite as you would NOT imagine….. Century is a nice place, hope we can keep it that way.

That if you have such intimate knowledge about the activities in the area, then I am sure you are cooperating and communicating with police in an effort to keep your neighborhood safe.
To “My Point Is”… Knowing this house I feel very certain that this was a drug deal or possibly a disgruntled prostitution customer. The DECENT citizens of Century have been hoping to have this place policed for a long time! I am just glad that no innocent people were hurt or killed during this. If nothing is done about the “traffic” here, you can bet it won’t be long until someone does get hurt badly. Pamela, I also feel so very afraid for the children in this house.
This time it may not have been. But everyone in town knows it’s a drug house. If you deny it, you have your head in the sand…..poor kids don’t stand a chance. Saw the lights driving by last night…..no surprise….that’s usually the type of things that go hand in hand with drug activity. Maybe the cops will crack down in that area before anyone else gets hurt. I pray the victims are OK and nothing like this happens again. Scary to think of what could have happened!!!

I am sure those that were shot can give more than enough information…they just have there own laws and lawmakers around Century…..I doubt that ALL were innocent…turn them in guys….next time might not be as lucky
