If a bullet leaves the range there will NOT be manslaughter charges unless someone did something negligent. It would be an accident and any responsible shooter is sure of his/her target and everything between and beyond. Manslaughter charges require stupidity and/or gross negligence, not an accidental event. I do hope this never happens and I think the range is closing to make sure this doesn’t happen once it reopens.

429SCJ – The Range manamement is aware of the problem with bullets leaving the range, and has placed smaller berms halfway down the ranges to catch “some” of the skipping bullets, but the reality is that the rear berms are just not high enough. The Range Redesign that was recently approved includes the addition of 35′ berms all the way around the range, as well as ricoccet “eyebrow” bullet catchers. It also requires the addition of “no blue-sky baffles” on the ranges facing east and west, towards neighboring homes. The new design will greatly reducte the number of strays escaping the range, but will not completely prevent bullets from skipping or flying over the rear berms to the north.

If people are detecting stray bullets, it may be as simple as making an adjustment to the back stop and berms. I bet if you showed the club secretary these areas, she or he would correct the condition, never hurts to work togather.

All these complaints regarding the stray bullets, people shooting where they shouldn’t, etc., are WHY WE HAVE HUNTER SAFETY CLASSES! It is to teach people about gun safety and how to enjoy hunting without someone being injured!

If someone is accidentally killed by a stray bullet, there will be manslaughter charges! It’ll be simple to fiure out from which gun the shot came. I think it’ll be best to go to a more secure range.

    Just saying!

Layla, I am also a resident of Rocky Branch Road, as well as a member of the Hunting Club that has the rights to the property immediately north and west of the range. Let me assure you, bullets DO leave this range. I have dozens of photos of trees on the property north of the range all shot up, as well of pictures of the many splices in the power lines that go over the range from being shot. The situation out here has gotten much better than it was, and it will be even better once ERML completes the range redesign that the County just approved, but for right now, if you doubt there are bullets leaving the range, contact me and I will arrange for a private tour of our hunting property where you will hear the bullets passing overhead.

Wow… Just wanted to remind everyone that there is more than one Tina out here. Please don’t get us mixed up. My opinion is I have been looking for something fun to do lately… haven’t been to the range on Quintete in a while, sounds like a great plan for the weekend. I didn’t know there was one on Rocky Branch, I’ll have to check it out instead. Thanx guys… Keep it safe. ;)

I am a recreactional shooter, I recieved an expert rating as a matter of my military record. If you move next door to a juke joint, dont complain about the racket, if you move next door to a rifle range?

  10. Tina on June 17th, 2011 3:44 pm

Oh wow, call me ignorant because I have an opinion and concerns? hmmm!
It is amazing at how ignorance can really show up when others have voiced opinions and concerns.
My opinion is MY opinion, and now I stand clear when I say I hope none of you are the ones at the range doing the shooting. LOL
Fairlane- You can “post” all the rules you want, BUT, that does not mean they are followed.

Country Girl- Maybe you should voice your “concern” of your trigger happy neighbor to the SA. Sounds like a mental health issue maybe?

Layla- I would invite you to our cookout, but you have no manners at all calling people ignorant because they voice an opinion or concern. I do hope and pray that YOU are not one of the people allowed to handle a gun. I can only imagine, if something like this makes you spout mean things, what would you do if someone makes you mad and you’re holding a gun? scary, very scary. :(

Ohwell- ah, I just moved in about 4 days ago.

I have one suggestion……… visit about 10 gun ranges, compare this one to the others and then call me ignorant.

Tina– Here are the ERML rules:

Get your facts straight before mouthing off on a public forum.

Yep, the noise is something awful, really awful, and YES we do have a stray wizzzz right on by at times, heck call GULF POWER and confirm how many times the power lines have been ‘’sliced” by a ‘’stray” and by the way…….my husband owns 9 guns! We don’t fuss about guns, just the disrespect of members and the refusal to comply. You would think since the club only pays $1.00 ONE DOLLAR per year to the county, they would ATleast follow some rules. Most people pay $25.00 to rent the parks for a birthday and have a huge list of rules. Yep $1.00 a year. Just sayin…………

  13. Country Girl lost in the city on June 17th, 2011 9:09 am

The people who object to legal gun ranges must not know the state is passing more laws to protect them, not close them. My suggestion would be move to the city. Oh, wait a minute, they don’t have permits for their guns, most have never taken a hunter safety course, and shoot from moving vehicles at night. Guns are everywhere, my neighbor is out on bond for domestic violence, trained by the state to shoot, and a few weeks ago he was outside in a city type neighborhood shooting a 22. Not in actual city limits, he is free to shoot if he wants. Go legal gun ranges.

  14. Layla on June 17th, 2011 8:03 am

…Ever been on the range on Rocky Branch??
Seriously,?? it’s a legal range. Strictly adheres to safety regulations. It is un-necessary to try and slam them. No way this range or the surrounding area could be classified as a ‘war zone’ and doubt there has EVER been a stray frag from someone shooting on that range that went off property.
Suggest in the future, get correct information before making ingnorant statements.

  15. Chris on June 17th, 2011 7:42 am

Really, you want them closed? Now the TRUE rednecks that are going to shoot anyway are just going to find a spot in the woods and let ‘em fly. These ranges cause no problems other than noise. I balme the fed for the noise because they banned silencers and supressors. It is considered rude in Europe to shoot without one.

  16. Oh well on June 17th, 2011 7:41 am

    Dear Tina,
Was the range there before you moved close to it? just curious.

We need a indoor shooting range like the old gun connection had. A place to shoot at night.

  17. Hunter on June 17th, 2011 7:37 am

Do you really think they would build a range where there would be a danger of stray bullets to the public? Or would you rather have people shooting out in their back yards? Besides it is only temporarily closed.. so that people can take a hunter safety course. I am glad the range is temporarily closed so more responsible young people can enjoy shooting and hunting.

  18. Tina on June 17th, 2011 6:16 am

    Nice :) can we get a closing for the one on Rocky Branch? :) ? : ) ? :) ?
Maybe we could plan an outside event with friends and family and not have to worry about the war zone and a stray one buzzing by our heads :(
