Man Accused Of Dumbbell Attack In Store Parking Lot

June 1, 2011

A Century man is accused of beating a man  with a dumbbell weight in the parking lot of a local convenience store.

Sammy Maurice Myles, 25, of old Flomaton Road, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after the incident Monday night at the Century Kwick stop at 8130 North Century Boulevard.

The victim’s wife told Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies that the couple was in their car outside the store when the three men approached them. One allegedly hit her twice in the head, breaking her glasses.  Myles allegedly began to beat the husband in the head with the dumbbell weight. The husband claimed that he began to fight back in self defense, at which time the other two men began to hit him.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment of their injuries.

Myles, when questioned later by deputies at the Century Sheriff’s Office precinct, was observed to have a swollen eye and busted lip. He told deputies the husband and wife and jumped him earlier in the evening on Pond Street in Century. He said he had gone to the convenience store to get ice for his eye, at which time the husband and wife jumped him.

Myles was booked into the Escambia County Jail Tuesday morning. He was released Tuesday morning on a $2,500 bond.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrest report does not specify how many pounds the dumbbell weight was.

He stated he was at the store to get ice when he was attacked. I’m sure he was getting ice for the shut eye and busted he had already received.

    Is he milli or vanilli?

    REGARDING:
“Thats how it is in century. You not suppose to let nobody beat u up and get away with it. Myles did the right thing by beating him with the dumbbell”

Surely there’s some Christians in Century. Such would at least consider:
    Romans 12:
17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

If one were to reject that–as so many do, there’s the words of Major Payne:” You don’t never hit no women!” But maybe it was one of the other two who did that.

Other than that, I’m sure he did “the right thing” but how did the right thing cost him incarceration and cost of bail? I’m fairly sure there are some people in Century who do the right thing without picking up a single dumbbell. Maybe they just aren’t as creative–or they took the former advice.

    David for a peaceful future

“Bless’em all, Bless’em all, the long and the short and the tall”…thank you, Irving Berlin. All God’s little critters have a particular function to fulfill…even if it is to serve as a bad example. Lord help us.

ppl that dnt know the story dnt need to comment. They jumped Myles earlier that evening so when he seen them later that night he got his revenge. Thats how it is in century. You not suppose to let nobody beat u up and get away with it. Myles did the right thing by beating him with the dumbbell.

I would like to know the motive of the attack. Was there anything stolen, did the couple know Mr. Myles or the two other gentlemen involved. What happen to the other two attackers? I sincerely hope justice will be served. And if Mr. Myles was truly the attacker, than more power to the husband to try to knock some since into Mr. Myles….and most importantly the husband defended his wife.

To: Kay “Everybody needs to get a job.”
Are you hiring? If so my husband needs a job. If you aren’t hiring can you tell me who is, he has been every where in Century and Flomaton trying to get a job and there are none around.

Simply amazing to me that some one whould actually try and defend the actions that occured here. Let me see according to the story this guy had the dumbbell and the husband and wife had nothing and all of a sudden he is claiming they jumped him. Yeah right! There is more to the story than that. I for one will be following this one to see all the facts and the end conclusion.
Finally I have to say I would have done the same thing as the husband I would have fought back as well with what ever was at hand. One has to protect his or her family by what ever means when something like this happens.

How heavy was the dumbbell? Why automatically assume these people don’t have jobs??? This took place Monday night on a holiday. I wasn’t at work either…

Where is the public outrage over the free and unrestricted access to dumbbells!

Obviously, this crime could not have been committed if this man did not have one.

Maybe the use of dumbbells should be restricted to licensed weight lifters, and other professionals who require access to them?

Seriously though, when a man carries a dumbbell to the convenience store to buy ice, something is up…

    Violence needs to stop…

Jim …..your probably right, one thing for sure I would never hire anyone with a record.
I just think it is so sad that people are not at work instead of the things they are doing
    in these small towns.

Kay—would you hire this person? I know the concept is good, but I have to feel some people set them self up to fail.
