Late Night Fight Ends With Stabbing, Other Injuries

June 9, 2011

A late night fight at an Escambia County apartment complex ended with a 19-year-old stabbed and several other people injured.

About 11:09 p.m. Wednesday, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Tom Thumb at 5695 Pensacola Blvd for a reported stabbing. They found Leroy Lamar Samuel, 19, of Pensacola, lying on the ground with a stab wound to the back.

Deputies were told by a 15-year-old involved in the altercation that 18-year-old Kelcia Newell, of Pensacola, was attacked earlier in the day at Oakwood Terrace, 700 Truman Ave, and hit in the head with a bat.

The juvenile told deputies that he along with Samuel and 20-year-old Travious Quewon Newell, of Pensacola, went to Oakwood Terrace to find the suspects in the earlier altercation. According to him, they were attacked and Samuel was stabbed in the back and beaten with baseball bats.

Newell and the juvenile also suffered injuries in the attack. Newell stated that he was hit by baseball bats and suffered a laceration to the lip. The juvenile was also hit by baseball bats and was cut with a box cutter. He suffered a small laceration to the stomach.

“Between the hours of 6:00 and 11:00 p.m. yesterday, we received a number of complaints concerning disturbances at Oakwood Terrace, “ said sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Chris Welborn. “There was a crowd of about 100 people gathered at the complex, but very few cooperated with us with helping to identify suspects.”

Samuel, Newell and the juvenile were all treated for non-life threatening injuries. Samuel was transported by ambulance to Baptist Hospital.

Most folks that live at Oakwood are “cop haters”.

This incident is just sorry, there are no other words for individuals acting in this manner. The Victim of the assault was no better. She went home and told whoever
and he gathered a posse and went out to do vigilante justice. As to the
matter of cops, I can’t believe you think all cops are good, like they are
not human beings and all different individuals. Sometimes they respond but the response is not good for many reasons. Sometimes they respond and they are
wonderful, it depends on who you get. They ARE NOT all carbon copies
    of the same uniformed man.

    Bob,
I would agree with you that all calls are answered……..
unfortunately sometimes it is several hours later. I called once about a breaking and entry that I was watching take place befor me, the ECSO arrived almost 3 hours latter. I watched the bad guys leave and come back for more…..
    so much for fast response……..

    Cop Hater;
You need to withdraw your post,it simply does not happen. I live in a rural out of the way place and even though inconvenient at times I will assure you every call is answered.

The juvenile admits that “they” went there to get pay back for something that happened earlier; so is this a case of self defense???

happens all the time, there are shows on TV about it in LA and other big cities. this is the begining of
    “THUG CENTRAL”
the start of gang violence, perhaps these teens are not as organized yet, but it will be here soon. these stories seem to show up more and more in this area.
it is proven over and over most citizens will watch and do nothing to stop or prevent this activity. but remember these are tough areas and folks are more likely to stay behind their locked door and pretend nothing is going on…..

“There was a crowd of about 100 people gathered at the complex, but very few cooperated with us with helping to identify suspects.”

Let’s all be honest. Doesn’t this seem to happen A LOT in these types of situations? Recently someone was shot and killed in Pensacola and there were dozens of witnesses who said they saw the guy get killed and that he was a “GREAT GUY” these witnesses couldn’t even tell the police the “great guys” first name, only a nic-name and then they couldn’t OR WOULDN’T tell the police the facts that they supposedly witnessed. But everyone at the scene seemed to really ham it up for the t.v. camera’s (overly dramatic.) So tired of people wanting to report crimes and then refuse to give real information. All of these people involved ranged from 15 to 20 years old. DUMB DUMB KIDS! Wanting to “play gangster” and be all bad and unfortunately we will all pay for them when they all end up in prison one day for being stupid.

Another response to “cop hater” I guarantee you that the deputies responded.. According to the article, however, when they got there, there was almost nothing they could do, because out of 100 people, there were “very few” who would cooperate and try to help.. The deputies do their jobs, sometimes at their own peril.. It seems to me that all of these 100 people all should have cooperated and helped them do their job.. This is basic good citizenship..

In response to “cop hater” (your words, not mine)…

Deputies responded to each and every call out there, just as they respond to each and every disturbance they are dispatched to.
I find it hard to believe that you’ve called the Sheriff’s Office to report a disturbance and they did not respond. That just doesn’t happen.
