Detour For County Road 97

June 9, 2011

The southern end of County Road 97 is expected to remain closed through June 27 for construction.

County Road 97 will be closed from the intersection of Highway 297-A westward to Devine Farms Road as a large pipe is installed under the roadway for International Paper’s water quality improvement project. Escambia County suggests that motorists use  Kingsfield Road to detour around the work area.

No, you are not to use these residential streets. People are driving way too fast, the speed limit is 30mph, and it is always closed to trucks. I live on this street and feel in danger just taking my dog for a walk. Obey the signs….closed to thru traffic!

I know the county is trying to keep motorists on the main thoroughfare, but there are 2 roads that are lots closer than Kingsfield that cut over to 97A…. Anyone who lives in the area probably already knows these 2 roads well. (hint: sandicrest, sherrilane)

So I guess we can keep the “tourist” of the area going all the way to Kingsfield road to come all the way back south (crazy) when they can travel 1/2 the distance by cutting thru one of the side streets.

Besides the fact there is more construction to slow up travels at the intersection of 297A & Kingsfield… has been going on for a month or more!!

    Happy Travels!!
