2,200 Lose Power Around Cantonment; Eight North Escambia Schools Lose Internet, Email
June 3, 2011
About 2,200 Gulf Power customers lost power for just over an hour Thursday afternoon, and the outage left eight North Escambia schools without internet access or email.
The power was out in the Cantonment area from about 2:18 until 3:28 p.m., according to Jeff Rogers, corporate communications supervisor with Gulf Power. The outage was centered around Tate Road after a feeder line tripped, he said.
The power outage at Tate High School cut internet and email for the schools in North Escambia. Tate High High School, according to the school district, houses the server that provides internet and email connectivity to all of the North Escambia schools.
Tate High, Bratt Elementary, Jim Allen Elementary, Ransom Middle, Ernest Ward Middle, Molino Park Elementary, Byrneville Elementary and Northview High all lost internet and email service. Service returned after power was restored.

RE: Proud Army WIfe…………………Some people are selfish and inconsiderate,
I went through the light located by the CVS & Circle K, it was completely out and even an ESCAMBIA COUNTY COP went right through withOUT looking left, right NEVER even slowed down, NO consideration what so ever ….and, very fast may I add, so fast that I had to speed up myself to take his picture on my phone lol
Tate’s Senior Honors Night was rescheduled due to a water main break in front of the school.
Went through Cantonment just as the power went off, it was around 3:20pm. When are people going to learn that when a traffic light is not working the intersection becomes a 4 way stop. It was really awful, cars and trucks buzzing through not lettting traffic in from the cross direction. I stopped and waved a car through and behind him went a school bus. Now that was really dangerous!
I was in the autoparts store, when suddenly everything went dead. I was relieved to see the cantonment traffic light in operation. I figured the generators at Gulf Power had overloaded! One hot day!
This outage must be why Senior’s Honor Night at Tate was cancelled, and rescheduled for Monday night. Automated call indicated for the health and safety, they were rescheduling for Monday.
