Man Throws 4-Month Old Son, Causes Traumatic Brain Injury

A four-month old infant is in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury and his father is now in jail charged with child abuse.
Steven Allen Tutwiler, 20, is charged with three felony counts of aggravated child abuse. Tutwiler is the father of the four-month old boy who was abused, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
On April 27, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the medical staff of Sacred Heart Hospital about the suspected abuse. When deputies spoke to Tutwiler, he told them that he had called 911 after the infant regurgitated his food and became unresponsive.
Deputies learned the following day that the infant was suffering from a traumatic brain injury, which required emergency surgery, and had other injuries that were believed to be non-accidental. Sheriff’s investigators determined that the infant received the brain injury after being thrown to the floor while in the care of his father.
Tutwiler told investigators that he was sitting on the floor holding the infant, and became frustrated and angry with the baby for crying. He explained that he pushed the infant backwards causing the infant to hit his head on the floor.
The infant boy remains hospitalized for the injuries. Tutwiler was being held in the Escambia County Jail without bond.

You know I have a 5 month old and I can’t imagine ever hurting him nor could his daddy… I know it gets tough sometimes and you just want to scream because you don’t know how to fix it or don’t know why they are crying or they won’t go to sleep and let you sleep. But…. they are little guys and can’t talk and kids shouldn’t have kids obviously! I just pray to God that, that baby recovers and I hope he has the best pediatrician neurosurgeon for his sake! and God bless that baby. For the father well that goes without saying…. I am sure he regrets what he did but that doesn’t make it ok. there are sick sicko’s in this world! So many people that can’t have babies would adopt that baby and he had to harm him
This brings back memories of being 16 years old with a colically new baby and no one to help me.The baby kept crying and crying and nothing seemed to comfort her..In my frustration,I stormed out of the house ,slamming the door leaving her on the floor in her little bouncy seat.After a few minutes of getting ahold of myself,I tried to go back inside but slamming the door had triggered the locking mechanism and I was locked out of the house.All the windows were locked tight.I ended up going next door to call the fire department to come help.I am not sure who was rescued that day! But I am grateful I had enough sense to step back and calm down.Too bad this moron couldn’t have done the same thing.
Kids having kids and they can not handle it. If only we would teach responsible birth control instead of spewing Christian rhetoric at them and hoping it sticks.

Sometimes people do things in the heat of the moment and don’t think about what their actions cause. For every action – there is a reaction! Now, for this man’s actions in the heat of the moment, he will pay for a long time. I just hope that his son will be okay. Brain injuries can be so unpredictive. I pray for this baby and hope that this dad never be allowed to be alone with this or any other baby. Yes, he may have learned his lesson, but it was at the cost of critically injuring his own son.

Life in prison, period… this innocent child had no hope, neither should this piece of garbage for a man.
In having raised 3 children and in having Grandchildren I know it gets frustrating at times. But to hurt a child in not excuseable. Here we basicly have a child taking care of a child. 20 years old going on 10 if you will. To imature to have that kind of responsibility. Now not only has he hurt an innocent child but he has destroyed his life as well. All of which he will have to live with. I pray the child is okay.
When a baby is crying and you are frustrated, that is what their crib or other safe place is for. IF after feeding, changing, loving on them, etc, is done, and they are taken care of and still are crying, PUT them in a safe place, walk away, calm down and begin again. This is a very sad, sad, story. Praying the baby will get well. As far as the young man is concerned, GET HELP. AND stay away from a child, even his own, till he does.
I never said a father couldn’t keep his child. But no one noticed in 4 months that maybe he shouldn’t be left alone with a child. All it took was the baby to cry while being feed for him to throw his own child down on his head. The article says there were other non-accidently injuries. Sound like this was not the first time this little baby was hurt.
I have an 8 week old baby and I could not imagine hurting her or anyone one else hurting her for that matter. How could someone do this to a little baby? Of course they’re going to cry, it’s how they communicate with you because they don’t know of any other way to yet. This is just awful. You know this man won’t stay in jail because you’ve got murderers being released. If he can abuse a little baby, he’ll hurt anyone else as well, possibly even this poor child again. If I were the mother in this case, my child would not be anywhere within sight of this man, period.
wow i could barely read this story…it makes me sick to my stomach. I have a 2 mo. old and love him dearly. This just reminds you that you need God in your life and you gotta ask for patience and kindness. The devil will make you so upset that when later on you look at this you will say that was not me, but the devil. I’m praying for this family and especially that baby, i ask the Lord to touch him right now and to cover him in the blood of Jesus!

Babies having babies!! I pray for all families involved! Lord knows you can get extremely frustrated with a crying baby….so sad he wasn’t able to just walk away for a moment to regain his composure. Praying for the little mans speedy recovery!
This breaks my heart. I pray to God that this baby fully recovers. I also pray that God helps this country. When we don’t protect our babies, children, and elderly, it is a sign that we are in serious trouble. Does anyone know the definition of aggravated chid abuse? Is it considered more serious that attempted murder toward an adult? It seems to me that violence against adults is treated more seriously that violence toward children. I really hope I am wrong. I honestly think this man should be rendered medically unable to have anymore children. Then he should be punished to the full extent of the law and then some.
OMG, he was too imature to have a baby in the first place. He is a coward with anger management issues, that needs to go to prison for life. He probably won’t though, unless the baby dies, the system will “try to keep the family intact”. Where is the mother?!!!! My prayers are going out to the baby. I’m praying for a miracle.
