EREC Holds 70th Annual Meeting Saturday, Elects Trustees, Awards Scholarships
May 1, 2011
Escambia River Electric Cooperative’s 72nd Annual Meeting was held Saturday at Jay High School.
Marshall Diamond and Radford Locklin, Jr. were elected as cooperative trustees from Santa Rosa County and JD Powell was elected as an Escambia County trustee.
EREC also awarded two $4,000 scholarships to a graduating senior with a parent or guardian that is a member of the cooperative. The Escambia County scholarship winner was Michael Lowery from Tate High School, and the Santa Rosa winner was Whitney Walther from Jay High School.
This was EREC’s 14th year to offer scholarships to high school seniors. In the past, those capital credits issued by EREC that were unclaimed had to be turned over to the state. But state legislation now allows such funds to be deposited into a qualified, educational charity fund. The EREC membership voted to use these funds in the form of scholarships for graduating seniors in EREC’s service area.
