Murder Charges Expected After Cantonment Shooting Victim Dies

May 3, 2011

A woman shot outside a Highway 29 convenience Sunday morning has died, and charges against a North Escambia man are expected be upgraded to murder.

Jennifer E. Gilbert, 22, of Pensacola, was shot in the head outside the Circle K and Wendy’s on Highway 29 at Kingsfield Road just after 9 a.m. while she was seated in her Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Gilbert was transported by LifeFlight to Sacred Heart Hospital where she  passed away Monday afternoon.

Attempted murder charges were filed Sunday against 30-year old Isreal Marell Taylor of Bateson Lane, Cantonment, but those charges are expected to be upgrade  to at least second degree murder. He remains in jail on $300,000 bond.

Jamie I feel for you and all the rest of the family and their friends. But your attenpting to defend him when it appears he might have been a very different man with adults than with you. Sorry for the loss.

@ jaime..finish school b4 u comment on adult matters. If i murdered someone u better believe my kids wouldnt believe i did it either. Ur dad has problems. I worked with jennifer 5 days a week. I would talk to is(nt)real almost everyday while he waited for her to finish side work. He is a very controlling man. Ive seen it right infront of me. Basically im saying this isnt the place to defend him. The proofs in the pudding.

Abuse should never be tolerated. This is the end results of that abuse. If you allow people to abuse you then you are empowering them. If you are in one of these kinds of relationships don’t just walk away but run as fast as you can. I don’t care how much they apoligize it will not stop. Here is proof positive of this fact. Just saying.

Isreal did do it – there’s proof………………he was a horrible man who constantly harrassed and stalked jennifer. Isreal will go to prison for the rest of his life and justice will be served!

I’m all for the Death penalty in a case like this. Fry him…

Let this be a wake-up call to anyone being abused/stalked! GET AWAY FROM THAT PERSON!!! Anyway, anywhere you can to be safe! Maybe her death will wake someone up who has been abused or stalked and save their life. IF so, it may give some consolation to the family, that this death was not in vain.

@Lynn Godwin..while I am understanding your comment and concern, crimes of passion happen and it doesn’t matter if you have an officer on every corner, crime can and does happen in the best of neighborhoods, it doesn’t mean that if a law enforcement officer Captain or not, doesn’t care about it. Put, your trust in the Lord, and pray for his protection on yourself and your family and friends, and special protection for our law enforcement officers. I pray for the families affected by this senseless act.

It may or may not have stopped this from happening, but the some of the officers in Cantonment and Molino areas are working by themselves. It is crazy. What is our sheriff thinking? This is putting us as citizens in an increased position of danger. Not to mention the officers.

Even the Captain of their patrol officers is from this area. Does he just not care about his neighbors or the officers. It is disgraceful. Be careful everybody. We don’t have much to depend on besides each other. I’m not forgetting those few officers we do have out there. We thank you too. Please be safe.

    Andrew….Well said!

Domestice violence most likely always ends up with someone being kileed.

  15. Andrew on May 3rd, 2011 1:43 am

@Jaime, It’s obvious to me that you didn’t know Jennifer, or if you did, at least not very well. I only knew her as an acquaintance and it was made public back then even to me that he stalked her and threatened her violently. All of her friends warned her that he was going to do something like this, and he did. None of her friends are surprised, although all of them are deeply upset.

children are always the victim of irrational and overly emotional adults. Adults make mistakes too. it just seems adult mistakes are worse than child mistakes. I pray for the families involved.

    @Jaime
I understand that you feel the need to stand by your family member. With that being said… when there is an article notifying the public about a tragic death, it is not the time to try to defend the accused. You started out giving your condolences, then went directly into defense mode! This is not the time nor place. If he is not guilty his lawyer will provide an alibi, and he will be out soon enough!!!

Second degree murder? How do you have to kill someone to get first degree?
