Overnight House Fire Under Investigation

May 13, 2011

An overnight fire that destroyed a Cantonment home is under investigation.

Fire ripped though the home at 1500 Britt Road just west of County Road 97 about 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters were called back to the home about 7:30 Friday morning to extinguish a few spots that had rekindled.

The home was reported to be abandoned; there were no injuries reported.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Cantonment, Molino, Ensley,  Ferry Pass and Ensley stations of Escambia Fire Rescue responded to the fire.

Sometimes the drug dealers/users will use an abandoned house to cook/use their drugs. I hope they find out whatever the cause was soon!!!

Yeah that was crazy i live on 2291 britt rd which is right behind that house and the fire was got very large very fast. I was worried sick about my house but luckilly the flames never spread from the house itself. I was just laying on my couch when i heard what sounded like gun shots and i was like oh my goodness who is shooting that much. Then my Phone rang and it was rather late so i was like okay what is going on. I answered it and my nieghbor told me that the house next to us was on fire ( theres a good amount of woods between my house and the house that caught on fire which is why i didnt imediatly notice it). I walked outside and the sky was literally glowing orange over the tree tops and there was a giant cloud of smoke. I’ve seen house fires before but not like this one. I noticed several oddities about the fire and i hope the fire department is doing a thourough investigation. They didnt actually leave untill about 7:30 this morning.
