Escambia Teachers To Get A Raise

April 17, 2011

Escambia County School District teachers and staff will see an increase in their paychecks.

The district and teacher and staff unions came to an agreement that will amount to a one percent raise for 2010-2011 and a supplement that will equate to a two percent raise for 2011-2012.

The supplement for next year will go toward the employee’s retire; it will not be a cash bonus like has been given in past years.

so much for the limited responses…..
we can always count on detailed naration from some,
weather we want it or not!

this is a good thing for the teachers, thank you for what you do.

    REGARDING:
“People can’t afford to live even with a job.”

People can’t afford to live as well as we would like, because there is always something more we would like to have. That doesn’t mean we can’t afford to live. There are people far poorer than anyone reading these lines who are living and raising families. They just aren’t living as well as they would wish either.

    AND
“If the super wealthy would pay their fair share of taxes”

If you took everything the wealthiest people owned, leaving them destitute, you couldn’t pay for our government for much over half a year and then you’d still have the rest of the year and all of the next year and – - -

Why do you figure those who earn the most “OWE” a disproportional share of government? Does the military defend them better than you? Do they have priority usage of the roads? Does the Department of Education give their children better educations?

To be honest people would have to admit they want the richer to pay more because they are jealous of them.

    AND
“- – and these gas prognosticators would stop raising gas prices“

They don’t raise prices. If they did, how do you explain prices dropping sometimes? What some of them do is buy what they can afford under the assumption someone will want to buy it from them later.

This isn’t essentially different from what a convenience store does. If somebody else is offering to sell it two or three cents cheaper than they are, they don’t sell it at all. They are risking their property to supply the needs of others. You are free to compete and undercut them if you want to.

    David for honesty not jealousy

The big problem is that costs for everything are constantly going up. People can’t afford to live even with a job. If the super wealthy would pay their fair share of taxes (yes that means ending the Bush tax cut for the wealthy) and if the loopholes for business and extremely wealthy were ended, and these gas prognosticators would stop raising gas prices, then we could really get serious about making a real long and short term plan for getting America out of this credit slump that will ultimately lead to our country falling apart. We absolutely must compromise or go down the tubes.

I am a school board employee and very thankful for my job….I wish those who do not appreciate their job or those who half do the job, would just quit or retire so that others who want and need a job could get one!!!! Folks who cheat their employers….are low on the totem pole with most of the hard working folks!!! It disgusts me to no end when I see this happening!!! To those who don’t give 100% to the job they were blessed with better get ready to stand before the Sinless Saviour for your poor stewardship!!!!! I don’t know about you,but I’ve got a lot to stand before Him for,so I won’t add that to my list!!!!

To Faith: I love your spirit of thankfulness !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Faith on April 17th, 2011 11:24 pm

If you get a raise, be thankful.
If you don’t get a raise, be thankful.

Some people haven’t gotten a raise in several years due to the economy.
Some people are being told,” just be thankful you have a job.”

Many people are looking for a job and would like to have yours.
Many people are complaining about their job all the time.

Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their jobs, homes, families, health insurance and their dignity.

Hundreds of thousands of people are now stressed, depressed and without hope due to economic downturn.

As we approach Resurrection Sunday (Easter), I pray the Lord Jesus Christ will quicken our hearts with His love and accept our forgiveness for murmuring and complaining.

May we all be more like Him everyday in everyway by renewing our minds in the reading of the Word (Holy Bible).

Lord help us to pray more and reach out to those who are hurting and tell them You are our blessed Hope and Redeemer and the Holy Spirit (your spirit), is here to comfort and bring healing to all who will call upon the name of Jesus.

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him and bless His name.” Psalm 100:4

Escambia Cty Florida is one of the “lowest” paying counties for educators. It is a shame that their importance is not better recognized as they are charged with such a tremendous duty -providing a proper foundation for our young.
I’m sure they greatly appreciate the raise, it just needs to go to those deserving!

  8. nudo on April 17th, 2011 10:05 pm

    1% is a slap in the face..what a joke.

  9. Michael on April 17th, 2011 7:12 pm

Considering Escambia County is much lower than Santa Rosa and LOTS lower than Baldwin County, a 1% raise will help, but it still is much less than the surrounding counties. I think Escambia ranks at the bottom of teachers salaries in the state of Florida.

Glad someone in the teaching profession is getting at least something. Baldwin County has not gotten a raise in at least 4 years, I believe it has been 5. They even cut back the amount those teachers who worked to become National Board Certified back by over $600 for 2010. Like everyone else, our medical copay increased 50% as well as prescription cost went up. Alabama is heading in the same direction as Florida in regard to ‘due process’ and professional contract.

    REGARDING;
“There are only two other instances were counties with the same name share a state border in the U.S. — Bristol County, Massachusetts and Bristol County, Rhode Island; and Sabine Parish, Louisiana and Sabine County, Texas”

And while they’re not counties, let us remember Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri.

    REGARDING:
” they deserve at least 5% which is still too little.”

Everybody deserves a thousand percent raise. The problem comes in when figuring how to pay for it. Most people don’t deserve to have to pay ten times as much taxes.

    David facing reality

  13. santa rosa on April 17th, 2011 1:57 pm

Santa Rosa teachers are getting no raises this year. It’s good to see Escambia teachers getting a raise. If you don’t think they deserve it, volunteer in any school for a week. There is never enough time, resources or support to teach everything that we are required by the state plus the things we KNOW they need to learn. (like social skills, hygiene and intrinsic values)

It’s not much, but it’s a nod in the right direction. I wish everyone could get 2% more of their pay!

  14. William on April 17th, 2011 1:08 pm

It is Florida. Since we are in Florida and primarily cover Florida, we write “Escambia County (Ala.)” when referring to Escambia, Alabama.

Side, but interesting note: There are only two other instances were counties with the same name share a state border in the U.S. — Bristol County, Massachusetts and Bristol County, Rhode Island; and Sabine Parish, Louisiana and Sabine County, Texas.

i would be happy with a 2 percent raise as a firefighter if thats all i get. better than nothing

  18. instigator on April 17th, 2011 7:06 am

2 percent for those highly skilled individuals who mold our childrens minds? that doesnt even cover inflation thats criminal!!!! they deserve at least 5% which is still too little. the same goes for nurses who take special care of your precious sick family!!! they only get 2% maybe this year if they are lucky
