Escambia Man Gets Life In Prison For 2009 Murder

April 19, 2011

Wendell Ray Hurley was convicted of the first degree murder of Timothy Thames by an Escambia County Jury. The jury deliberated for over four hours after the three-day trial before returning a guilty verdict. Hurley will be sentenced to a mandatory life sentence on Wednesday, April 20.

On May 31, 2009, Hurley and a second man kicked in the door to Thames’ home and confronted Thames and his ex-wife in the master bedroom. Both intruders were wearing masks and both were armed with firearms. During the course of the home invasion Thames was shot twice. Before leaving Hurley stole a purse and cell phone.

Two surviving witnesses were able to identify Hurley by his voice and facial features that were exposed. Additionally, Hurley was caught on video using a stolen credit card less than 90 minutes after the murder. Two days after the murder Hurley was arrested while sleeping in a Pensacola home. The murder weapon was found under his mattress.

Hurley is a seven time convicted felon. The life sentence on Wednesday will be the second imposed on Hurley; he is currently serving a life sentence for an armed burglary conviction in which the murder weapon was stolen.

I was Timothy Thames stepmother. The judicial system doesn’t move fast. It was a long drawn out process, but each time he went to court his ex wife and I were in court. Over 2 years for any case he was being tried for. Still I never once heard him say why he had to kill our son or show any remorse for his actions. I’ve learned a lot about how the judicial system works. I pray one day that all of our questions will be answered.

God bless and thank the States Attorney for all of his hard work and dedication and hats off to the jury to see that Hurley is taken from society permanently.
My only wish is that while living the rest of his life behind bars that he may wake up one day and discover his conscience for the first time and to know and admit he is a cold blooded killer, thief and low down criminal and not feel proud of it. To realize he has been banished forever in this world outside of his bars. To discover almighty God, and beg for forgiveness.
to wake up for once, wipe that grin off his face and to feel true remorse for the taking of someone’s life. It is only then that he may find the key to life in the next world after this one. This world is now through with Wendell Ray Hurley once and for all.

“David how and where did you pull all that up?”

    Hit enter.

Type in the last name where it asks, the first name where it asks.
    Hit enter.

Pay close attention to birthdates and middle names. Quite often there are several with same first and last name. There’s even a David Green or two on there, just not me so far.

It won’t tell you about other places but will cover Escambia County, Florida fairly well. It will give specifics about various cases if you click on them. Bond, judge, witnesses, birthdates, addresses, how much they still owe, things like that

    David for sharing

I have no doubt this character was given chance after chance and his parents
babied him and told him it was all just mistakes.

NOW THEY BETTER DO THE JOB RIGHT AND NEVER LET HIM OUT.

David how and where did you pull all that up?

To name just a few of the things he’s been accused of doing for fun and profit over the years:

    GRAND THEFT AUTO
    Attaching Tag Not Assigned
    PETIT THEFT FIRST OFFENSE
Leaving Scene Of Aaccident without giving info more than $50 damage
    RECKLESS DRIVING FIRST OFFENSE
    NO VALID DRIVERS LICENSE
AGGRAV ASSLT-W DEADLY WEAPON WITHOUT INTENT TO KIL
    ARSON-SECOND DEGREE
    GRAND THEFT AUTO
    CRIM MISCH-OVER 200 DOLLARS UNDER 1000 DOLLARS
    BURGL- UNOCCUPIED STRUCTURE OR CONVEYANCE
    PETIT THEFT FIRST OFFENSE
    CRIM MISCH-OVER 200 DOLLARS UNDER 1000 DOLLARS
    BURGL- UNOCCUPIED STRUCTURE OR CONVEYANCE
POSSESS OF WEAPON OR AMMO BY CONVICTED FLA FELON
PRINCIPAL BURGLARY OF DWELLING ARMED WITH FIREARM
PRINCIPAL GRAND THEFT OF A FIREARM

But let us remember he is bound to have relatives and friends whose SENSITIVE feelings would be hurt if anyone says anything bad about him. That’s far more important than the people he hurt or killed over the years–or so some tend to say.

David thinking how some blame the system for not magically making him good
(I’ll join in in condemning it for letting him out to kill, though I doubt they knew )
or condemn judgmental people for condemning him and his actions
and some even tend to fault the people he robbed and killed

“Seven time convicted felon”. This guy should be getting the needle.

We need to look at how the system failed. He was supposed to be in prison for a prior conviction…
