William Edward “Bill” Smith

William Edward “Bill” Smith, 68 of Atmore died Sunday March 27, 2011, at his residence. He was Emergency Management Association director of Escambia
County for many years and a long time chief of police of Atmore.

Smith was born in Mobile on November 19, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward L. Smith, Nell W. Stacey and  Otis R. “PeeWee” Stacey.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Roberts Smith of Atmore, two daughters, Geni Diane Clayton and husband Andy of Milton and Carol Stacey Davis of Atmore. Late in life Bill was fortunate enough to add a son to his family, Justin Gates of Fairhope. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Sarah Davis Clayton, Katelyn Nell Clayton, Ian Andrew Clayton all of Milton, and Skylar Allison Davis of Atmore.

Services will be Wednesday March 30, 2011, At 10 a.m. from Atmore Memorial Chapel with Bro. Robert Thower officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Justin Gates, Robert Carlee, Kenny Rolin, Charles Rabon, Ed Rabon, and Doug Welch.

Family will receive friends Tuesday evening March 29, 2011, at Atmore Memorial Chapel from 6-8 p.m.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore is in charge of all arrangements.

    This man was one amazing person. By far one of the sweetest, most kind hearted men I have ever known. I was fortunate enough to have known him and he will forever hold a place in my heart. He will be greatly missed. I will always consider him a part of my family.
