More Info, Surveillance Photo: Woman Injured In Walmart Parking Lot Mugging

March 7, 2011

More information has been released a weekend purse snatching an Escambia County Walmart.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office major crimes unit are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle used in the robbery Saturday afternoon.

On Saturday, at around 4:04 p.m.,  the victim was approached by a white female who tried to take her purse.  The female suspect was described as being five-foot-four or five-foot-five with curly reddish blonde hair. She was said to be wearing a dark jacket or coat.

The  victim held onto her purse and struggled with the female suspect as the suspect got into a red Dodge Neon (pictured) driven by a white male.

The victim continued to hold on to her purse as the male suspect drove away, dragging her several feet through the parking lot. She suffered injuries to her head and face and was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital by ambulance.

Anyone with information about the robbery is encouraged to call the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP.

I have a concealed permit. I do NOT carry a purse (just a temptation to bad people). My money, ID, keys, etc are in my pocket. My hammerless handgun is in my other pocket in a pocket holster, ready to defend myself. And yes, you can carry it in any business as long as it’s not a government office, you have a license to carry, and you keep it concealed (you learn that in your concealed carry class). I carry mine everywhere I go, including in church I don’t advertise I have it, but it’s ready for any situation. Of course I can’t carry it into work (I’m an RN), but for that, I carry mace in my pocket for the walk thru the parking lot. I pray I never have to use either one, but I am a small woman and probably appear to be an easy target, but my deputy husband has taught me the proper way to defend myself and for that I am truly blessed!!

Jay’s Guns & Accessories on Garden Street is an amazing place–they really know their stuff and they know the law and what you need to do to follow the law!!

There apparently are more than one of these type cars in this area. My daughter has one and she has been stopped once and the police came to our home tonight and took pictures of my daughters car and have seen the difference between my daughters car and the one in the picture. Similiar does not prove guilty, just wanted my neighbors to know…that your neighbor is innocent and too hopes they find this person soon so they will quit stopping my daughter.

One question I am always asked about my hiking the Appalchian Trail,is weren’t you afraid? My reply was always,I am safer on the trail than in a wal mart parking lot! i rest my case.

Always think it is funny when people squall about slave labor. How much would the “slaves” make per hour if BIG BUSINESS was not there to offer a job?

“this is not a neon. This is a 2 door dodge stratus. Oh, and if the suspects are reading, im calling crime stoppers, just hope I am wrong about who i think u r.”

It is a neon. The hood, front fascia, and spoiler have been added to make it look like an srt-4. It appears to be a 2002 or older.

Then do us all a favor: sell your computer, drive to the gulf and begin swimming south as FAST AS YOU CAN! Don’t stop and don’t look back.

Within about 5 hours your problems will all be over and we won’t have to hear you rant anymore.

i HOPE YOU ALL READ THIS.

Don’t put your life in the hands of anyone but yourself.
Walmart is so cheap that they actually go to china and make deals with
the companies who make some of their products that they sell. If the company
says they can make the items for 8 cents a piece. Walmart negotiates
them down to 7 cents an item. The kids who work in the plants that are
making the items are then paid like 8 cents an hour and they only get
15 mins off for meals and they are not allowed to go home for months
on end. Many of our big chains are doing that.

Did you AL:L KNOW THAT, DID you know there is SLAVE LABOR OF
YOU NG PEOPLE CONNECTED TO WHAT YOU BUY?
Or do you just AGREE WITH SLAVE LABOR?

BIG chains were exposed on TV not to long ago.
I can’t believe the car lot has one car in it, let alone FULL.

Of course some of you don’t care where your stuff comes from , who you
support or who you hurt as long as it is cheap.

I’m so disgusted with everyone now days, especially BIG BUSNESS AND
    THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT THEM.

  9. Gun on March 8th, 2011 8:41 am

I don’t think if this lady had a gun she would have been able to access it and use it in a situation like this. It more than likely would have been in her purse and doesn’t seem possible she could get to it while struggling with the assailant & then being dragged holding on to the purse. I was thinking that if she had a gun in her purse they would have also ended up with the gun…not a good thing.
Just a bad situation. Hoping she will be alright and the thugs are caught & sent away.

  10. CarGuy on March 8th, 2011 8:09 am

It’s an 02 dodge neon srt has the hood scoop for the turbo and the high spoiler 02 the only model with a spoiler that high and all neons are 4 doors

  11. whitepunknotondope on March 8th, 2011 7:37 am

Is that damage on the hood?

  12. whitepunknotondope on March 8th, 2011 7:37 am

Is that a 2 door or a 4 door? Come on citizens, let’s keep our eyes peeled and pop these perps!

    Pay attention to those rims.

  13. whitepunknotondope on March 8th, 2011 7:35 am

First thing the perps will probably do is take that spoiler off. Anyone know if that’s easily removable?

  14. whitepunknotondope on March 8th, 2011 7:34 am

Thanks for the picture. This case should be solved soon now.

  16. OMRBH on March 7th, 2011 10:47 pm

@ dad. Take a concealed carry course at the next local gun show. All your questions will be answered and your eyes will be opened about many things. If you can’t do that, talk personally with a permit holder.
@ the person asking about the substation: I know you meant well, but what was the victim gonna do? Ask the purse snatcher to wait while she crossed the street to find a LEO?
The time may come, as it did for this victim, when we need to defend ourselves and not wait for LEO’s. It may be too late by the time they get there.

  17. EMD on March 7th, 2011 9:02 pm

I have been hit up by panhandlers in this Wal Mart parking lot, in Sam’s Club parking lot, at a gas station in Birmingham, and just recently, in the Shell/Wendy’s gas pump area. No violence was done to me, but I knew to just give the guy in Birmingham the money. We need to all be very alert and prepared everywhere. Don’t carry purses. Find another way.

  18. dad on March 7th, 2011 8:49 pm

So if someone is trying to rob you in a parking lot and you are carrying a concealed weapon, legal, with a permit can you shoot them? Also, can you carry a concealed weapon into Walmart? It IS private property. Hate to see the victim be punished.

  19. nudo on March 7th, 2011 7:44 pm

Someone mentioned Walmart security. If you know anything about Walmart its that there the cheapest corporate people on the planet. So I don’t think I would put much faith in there security service they contract out.

  20. JuJu on March 7th, 2011 6:23 pm

I carry my 38 on my back everywhere I go….never thought I would be able to wear it comfortably, but you really don’t know it is there…and yes I have a carry permit. We all need one…..

  21. David Huie Green on March 7th, 2011 5:53 pm

It seems unlikely this vehicle just drove in, made the snatch and drove away without driving around a bit first. With as many cameras as they have on hand, it just seems reasonable they could find a tag or good image of the people in the vehicle from earlier recordings.

I could be wrong, but hope they have checked, just in case.

  22. Neighbor on March 7th, 2011 5:34 pm

Just wait..these stupid people will be dumb enough to go back to Walmart and try to act innocent, might just get recognized. Let’s hope.
P.S. My daughter and I are going to the range ladies. See you there? :)

  23. Teresa on March 7th, 2011 4:02 pm

Yes Ladies get your permit…always carry. Caring your gun should be like wearing your wedding band or like putting on your shoes, you feel naked without it…Also never carry in your purse..if they snatch your purse..like this lady.. your gun is in there hands and doing you no good. when in a parking lot or a walmart ( worst place in the world to get robed or raped) or any store carry on your body..and always be ready! I’m 5′ft tall and 120pounds and I carry ON MY BODY!!!! You can conceal with the right gun and a little practice. Leo’s cant be everywhere. There is a wonderful conceal weapons teacher on the west side of P’cola. He’s a advocate for abused women..I’ll put the web sight up so you guys can check it out..He takes you to the range and you learn with a variety of guns that way you know your best fit before you purchase. Sorry they didn’t let me put the sight up.

i always shop at the blue angel pkwy walmart. There are NEVER people loitering or staring u down looking like they are going to try to rob u. It is a very clean store and everyone is there to do one thing shop. I stopped going to the 29 store ages ago because no matter what time or day there are so many thuggish wanabe characters hanging around in the store and the parking lot and the same goes for mobile hwy too. i always carry my gun just to be safe which nowhere is safe anymore. dont be a statistic and keep your eyes open when in public.

  25. Kat on March 7th, 2011 1:58 pm

Just don’t carry a purse…they’re gonna have a rough time trying to get into my pocket while I’m beating them to death!!!

  26. interested reader on March 7th, 2011 1:02 pm

I was in Walmart this morning and asked about security. They do have security driving around the parking lot but whether they are where you need them at any given time is a question all stores can’t answer. I think people should be vigilant no matter where they shop. NO area is completely safe. There have been incidents in most all local parking areas.

  27. southern by choice on March 7th, 2011 12:20 pm

I also would like to buy “American” made items. Can anyone tell me what merchants don’t stock their stores with items made in China or other foreign countries?

As busy as this Wal-Mart always is, I’m surprised there were no witnesses to this crime. And if she had had a gun, it probably would’ve been in her purse which wouldn’t have done her much good. I guess shopping alone just isn’t safe in Pensacola or Mobile with all the drug infested idiots out there.

  28. Sweetie on March 7th, 2011 11:17 am

I have also gotten away from shopping at Walmart. Too big now and the prices are not what they used to be. Target is okay, I guess, but I have been getting what I need from Dollar General or the Pig. I do a lot of online shopping. That way, I don’t get aggravated with traffic, or people who are rude, or people who don’t control their kids, or teenagers who are just being stupid. Anyway, thanks to the man who said he won’t let his woman shop there anymore. Glad to see he cares enough about his family. Online shopping. It is pretty good. You can get a Visa card at CVS and put money on it, then use it online. Very handy.

  29. Just An Old Soldier on March 7th, 2011 10:59 am

@PSU – the County Sheriff’s sub-station is just south of the store, across the street. Most times it’s locked up as the Deputies are on patrol in their cruisers. My wife wanted to report an roadway incident and had to wait for the Deputy to arrive – but they are always nearby and it took only two or three minutes for a response.

We have some great Deputies there. Glad the station re-opened after Morgan was elected.

We’ve pretty much stopped shopping there due to the crime risk and too many products made in China. Why give money to people that want to see us dead or defeated? Kind of like giving money to Democrats.

  30. David Huie Green on March 7th, 2011 10:51 am

nobody has to shop anywhere they don’t want to shop. nobody is guaranteed safety by the people who have things to sell them.

    sad but true

  34. really on March 7th, 2011 7:48 am

i agree with sandra…get your carrier’s permit…if someone messes with you or your family, they’ll only do it once!

  35. Jane on March 7th, 2011 7:28 am

Facial Fractures are EXTREMELY painful and cause a great deal of damage. Ladies, try to shop with other people, have one watch while the other loads groceries, etc. Put you purse in the vehicle first and close the door. Lock the door on the opposite side so someone can’t reach in and grab it. Always be aware of your surroundings! If you know older people who shop alone, try to plan a shopping trip with them. We have to watch out for ourselves and others as much as is possible.

  36. Dan on March 7th, 2011 7:20 am

    You go Sandra !!!!

  37. EMD on March 7th, 2011 1:45 am

I put her and the family on 2 prayer group lists yesterday, before this got on the news. People are praying.

I will never understand how people can do things like this. I could not even treat an insect like this. Must be some miserable desperate folks who can do such things.

  38. DRUNK AND WHAT ELSE? on March 6th, 2011 1:19 pm

I didn’t know they got rid of their security. I don’t shop there and never will again
    for anything.

  39. DRUNK AND WHAT ELSE? on March 6th, 2011 1:17 pm

This is just shameful. Women doing things like this and I hope they catch
her and any accomplice and they hit them with everything they can charge
them with, I have no mercy for people who are violent to others. I have
had many hard times through my life and never one time thought about
violence. This is a disgrace for Americans to act like this. There is no
excuse, there are jobs, their just to lazy or think their too good and that
someone else owes them a living.

  42. Dan on March 6th, 2011 12:43 pm

Despite the added costs, Wal-Mart must beef up security at their
Highway 29 store. Too many incidents have happened there. I
won’t let my woman shop there alone anymore.

I will be carrying, especialy at that Wal-Mart. I won’t hesitate
to use deadly force as allowed under the laws of Florida.

This lawless behavior MUST STOP !!!!!

  43. Sandra on March 6th, 2011 12:20 pm

When my family is leaving walmart I stand back and scan the area and let them load packages. If something happens, I have a .45 on my side to mitigate the problem.

HKEMHORNS–TRY FALLING ONTO THE HARD SURFACE OF A PARKING LOT FACE FIRST AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I HAD A FRIEND FALL BACKWARDS AND HIT HIS HEAD AND IT CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE–INCLUDING BLEEDING IN THEIR BRAIN. I KNOW WILLIAM WILL GIVE US ALL THE REST OF THE ID ON THE SORRY FOLKS. (KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK WILLIAM)

  45. JUDY MASEK on March 6th, 2011 10:08 am

  46. Teresa on March 6th, 2011 8:53 am

This same thing happened to my sister in law at an Orlando Publix last year, during the day. Within 2 hours they had passed her credit cards out to other people that were on stand by at the surrounding stores with there buggies loaded down with merchandise! It took her longer to get the police report in!!!!! Walmart usually has camera’s, so hopefully they will be caught! Good luck and God Bless to the victim and her family.

  47. lawful citzen on March 6th, 2011 8:52 am

Praying for the attacked woman, that she is healed outward and don’t sound like there is going to be a problem inward (sound like that is already in place) also other hard working people and retired out there that just want to make a living and enjoy their money and get what is needed and necessary for their families.
Praying for the attackers that they will LOOK for and find JOBS, after they get out of jail, because I also pray that the Police LOOK for and FINE them, Do these clowns not know, that Walmart have camaras in the parking lots and that the camarain the walmart shopping center is how the man in Mobile got caught that was doing the tire iron muggings.

  48. What has this world come to on March 6th, 2011 8:18 am

Well, Walmart got rid of the deputies because it was too expensive. Now they no longer have Vice security, that patrolled the parking lot, aboout two weeks ago. It’s all about money with this company. I no longer shop there. Give me Publix anyday. And yes, I agree, pray for this innocent woman.

  49. ellenb on March 6th, 2011 7:26 am

First & foremost, Father I pray for this woman, her quick healing, for her family, and for the people who did this to her. I pray that you help them, speak to their spirit, & Help them see what they’ve done. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Time was when the reason people hugged another was to take of or feed their family, not true anymore. The government has made it easy for you to do that. Don’t misunderstand.me, I’m thankful for those agencies, I’ve had to use them in the past, but it makes it to easy for some. The desperation out there now, is addiction. While you may think you have the right to put drugs into your body, you don’t, your body belongs to God. However you most assuredly DO NOT have the right to horribly injure and take from them for your desperation, whatever that may be.

Thank you & God Bless You every one.

  50. michelle smith on March 6th, 2011 7:10 am

I know the woman who was victimized . She is a sweet angel with a servants heart. She is the kind of person who would never hurt anyone. She is the one working behind the scenes when a job needs to be done. Her precious beautiful face took the brunt of this… she is facing a long road of surgeries and painful recovery. PLEASE pray for her. Her husband asked for prayers for the couple who did this to her… they must be desperate to go to this extreme. I agree, but I must admit I want them caught as soon as possible. If you have any information that will help the police please come forward.
