Panhandle Republicans File Bills To Streamline Permitting Process

March 3, 2011

A pair of Panhandle Republicans have filed measures they say will streamline the state’s permitting process and make it more difficult for parties to challenge development decisions.

The bills by Sen. Greg Evers, who represents the North Escambia area, and by Rep. Jimmy Patronis, R-Panama City, make a number of changes including provisions that shift the burden of proof in some cases and prevent local governments from denying permits to projects simply because they have yet to be approved by the state.

Introduced by various members over the past few years, backers say the measures are needed to reduce barriers for development while environmental groups are wary the changes will make it difficult to stop undesirable development.

What new business prospects for Escambia County? I thought all the only new businesses the county would let in was tempory business between May and Sept…how many of flip-flop and bait and tackle shops to we need?

Untill Escambia County turns away from the beach and tourism to help build revenue and bring jobs to the area, there is no hope for anyone.

If you don’t make the permit process easier, you can’t get businesses into the Escambia County. We have lost numerous business opportunities here because the permit process is so slow and cumbersome. Let’s keep the people poor and under control in Escambia County by denying permits to new businesses! Is that intelligent governing?

More out-of-control and unchecked growth is just what we need…. NOT! Greg Evers is showing his true “big business” colors now and he has forgotten his agricultrue and rural roots of Baker and the surrounding area. It is expected that he’ll be in lock-step with the party rank and file as we sail off into hades with Gov. Scott at the helm.
