Names Released: 1 Dead, 2 Critically Injured After Atmore Police Pursuit

March 7, 2011

One person was killed and two others were critically injured in a single vehicle rollover crash in Atmore Sunday night during an Atmore Police pursuit.

According to a written statement from the Atmore Police Department, an officer was on patrol traveling southbound on South Presley street  about 9:37 p.m. as he observed the vehicle traveling north at a high  rate of speed.  The vehicle ran a stop sign at East Horner Street as the officer turned his vehicle around and activated his emergency lights. The vehicle continued to speed up, running another stop sign at South Presley and Church streets and then running a red light at East Nashville Avenue (Highway 31).

The driver of the older model Ford Crown Victoria with “Pixie Dust” lettered on the side crossed over East Nashville Avenue headed north on Presley Street, losing control as they crossed over CSX railroad tracks at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle overturned, coming to rest upright in a ditch about 250 feet north of the railroad tracks. All three of occupants in the vehicle were ejected.

Adam D. Patterson, 34, of Atmore was pronounced dead at the scene. William Lee Patrick, 23, of Mobile was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to the USA Medical Center in Mobile, and Carlton T. Hunt, 49, of New York was airlifted in a second LifeFlight helicopter to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

A written press release from the Atmore Police Department did not specify how close their officer was pursuing the vehicle. Atmore Police also did not identify which man was driving the vehicle.

The incident remains under investigation.

Well all i got to say is that it dont matter what happened here the truth will come out and second i know some of these people that was in the car and i know they was running for some reason…i mean if they wasnt then why didnt they just use there heads and put there foot on the break and stop! And sorry but the cop cars dont have racing motors in them so they cant catch up with a car just like that and if they did hit the back of the car then so be it…it is there dang job to stop a vehicle anyway possible before other people on the road gets hurts…so stop saying there was witnesses seeing them get hit from behind bc as far i care GREAT JOB police officer bc i know he was trying to do his job and keep others safe….Think about this what if he didnt try to stop them and hit a van with 4 or 5 kids in there and killed all of them then yall will be on here whinning saying why didnt yall push them off the road so please think before u speak bc its not the polices fault at all bc they saw someone running a high speed down a road and running stop signs…i would want them to do the same thing to keep my child protected bc what if ur child was on one of them roads(riding there bike) and they ran a stop sign and hit ur child then u would change ur story!! THINK ABOUT THAT!!

It seems as though you do not care for human life…someone should check to see if this is a murderer…

  6. concern&wondering on March 9th, 2011 4:39 pm

@tired I never said it was the police fault I said thats what I heard .That last statement (Being born does not impress me).So I take it you don’t have any kids or farther more how did you get here ? Like I said don’t talk about them pray for them.Because I’m surely praying for u. GOD BLESS.

  7. tired on March 9th, 2011 3:57 pm

Wait…what!? “Concernandwondering” did you mention making a bad decision?! I thought it was all the policeman’s fault. Which is it? Or maybe the truth is finally coming out. As for being someone’s child, so is every terrorist, rapist, murderer, child molester, etc. Get the picture? Still don’t care. Still no less of a thug. Being born does not impress me.

  8. me on March 9th, 2011 1:02 pm

tired…..I was really talking about the people of Atmore being caring, considerate, kind people and having comapssion for human life, but I see where your coming from…..both statements are correct

  9. Serious on March 9th, 2011 10:38 am

To the family members and please dont take this the wrong way.

I dont know what happened or who was at fault but hold your head up.A lot of people are praying for y’all regardless who was at fault because it was a terrible thing to happen.People are going to judge you no matter how well you do or how bad you do,what color you are, how you look and the list goes on and on.My opinion is that speed was a factor but nobody lives in a glass house. We all have sin.Yes, i am glad no one else was injured because it couldnt have been worse than what it was.For the two survivors,i pray you get well soon and tell the truth so that alot of minds can be at ease.

@tired ,Do you have kids? Did you know the young man? Yes Atmore is not the place it use to be .Put its not just Atmore it is everywhere the DEVIL is busy he is out to kill and destroy our youth.Instead of saying bad thing about them pray for them. Because that was someone child. We could be the best parents in the would rise our kids up get them school send them off to college. And at the snap of a finger they can make a bad decision. We just never know all we can do is pray for them .Because know one know how or when we leaving this earth.

  11. concern&wondering on March 9th, 2011 9:30 am

@Jim W,Thanks for answering the question.I have a better understanding of what you were saying now.

  12. tired on March 9th, 2011 9:00 am

You’re right “me”. Atmore has changed. It has slowly been taken over by these types of People. They have taken over the streets, the homes, the schools, everything. Lazy, ignorant, baby machines. We are sick of it. GOOD people, who are hardworking and don’t expect taxpayers to pay for their groceries and all the children they have by different men, are TIRED. So yes, it’s one less to deal with.

  13. me on March 9th, 2011 8:34 am

it doesn’t really matter what took place…a life has been lost. that is the main thing, yes, he may have done something wrong and he may have fled, but still, a life has been been lost . Family means more than anything, life means more than anything and i have realized this more in the past year than an ever…….have some sympathy for them, no matter what happened…atmore people have really changed over the years

  14. tellingitlikeitis on March 9th, 2011 8:04 am

OK, let me get this straight; these people were riding around in a purple car with a big pink “Pixie dust” written on the side (a drug reference by the way), through a residential area of Atmore, speeding, running stop signs, and eventually fleeing the police, putting the lives of everyone on the street that night in danger. Then the family comes on a public forum, makes up lies (and I mean some whoppers), and in very bad grammar, threatens the police and hopes the police officer chasing them “burns in Hell”, threatens the other posters who call them out on their blatant lies and threats. Then tells us we shouldn’t judge them or their families because they are all “children of God”, and raised them right! Yeah, sounds about right. I know we shouldn’t judge others, but I don’t think God expects us to put blinders on either. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, flies like a duck, and swims like a duck, it’s probably a freakin’ duck.

  15. tired on March 9th, 2011 6:20 am

No compassion here. One less thug to worry about. Loved the comment, “well done, karma”! My sentiments exactly.

  16. Stacey on March 8th, 2011 11:21 pm

Wow, I am shocked by comments on both sides of this! Blaming the cope, threatening the police…so you not know that they can trace you if something bad happens?? Insane! When the corner’s report is in, then the whole story will come to light…and saying things like this kid is burning in hell…really?? That is pretty low…

  17. Jim W on March 8th, 2011 11:05 pm

This is for “concerned and wondering”. I will gladly answer your question as you seem to think I am implying something I am not. I should have just said it rather than leaveing an open ended statement like that. So let me make this very clear I mean nothing no more or no less when I say this. Some of the comments made by some of the people on here need to “Crawl back under the rock your living under or into the world of oblivian your in or what ever it is”. For some of the comments to imply that every police officer is out to get or harass people there obviously is something seriously wrong with their lives. Every time something happens people can not blame the police for the problem.
The answer here is once again if the driver had complied with the law this would not even be in the news or being discussed. The end results are bad decissions cost people their life and ruined other lives including their family’s lives. It effects all. I hope I have cleared it up with you at this point. Once again I meant no more than what I have said do not read into it any further . I will monitor to see yur response if any. Do not take this personal as it is not meant to be. It is only for the people who are trying to justify something that did not happen the way they have said it did.

Now, how many times have you been sitting at a traffic light or stop sign and have seen a vehicle blatently run through it? And what did you say? “Where is a cop when you need one?” We all want them to do their jobs.
We may never know “why” the driver was speeding up Presley Street, but he did make a string of bad decisions that led to a very bad consequence. Pray that others will learn from this. A traffic ticket is temporary. Death is final.

  25. Jim W on March 8th, 2011 1:40 pm

I would like to address a couple of the people who have posted on here. I am so pleased to see that you are as passionate as you are. But, maybe just maybe your passion has over come your common sense! This is for: Kendra Pettway I am not ashmed of anythigng nor should I be for speaking my opinion. You really are very quick to make a judment on me but yet you say I’m not allowed to make my opinion on the information given. Notice I said on the information given. If you cared to have read my opinion you would have also seen that I said if the APD did in fact do what your saying I would be the first in line to criticize them. Come on get your head together I have fought for you to have the right for you to say what you have said about me just as I fought for the right for me to say what I have said. What have you done for your community, your country but try and put it down. It appears that what ever ayone says that does not meet you need or opinion they are wrong. Who told you that your always correct? Who made you the over seer of all? I really would like to know that so I may to be impowered. If the shoe fits sister wear it!
This is for Concerned who tries to compare APD with Elba: What does Elba have to do with anything in Atmore last I checked APD patrols the streets of Atmore not Elba. I guess if one child in school does drugs they all do by your calculation. That statement I just made is just as crazy as the one you made compareing the PD’S. Just because one does it does not mean evryone is doing drugs. Wake up people this is a public forum to post your comments. I posted mine and I stand by them and you have the same right. Just because I disagree with you on your opinions does not dictate that I should be ashamed of what I have said. Get you brain in gear! Or where ever you have it parked because to me it does not seem to be functioning properly!

  27. i spy on March 8th, 2011 12:50 pm

im purty sure they would not have been “running/driving so fast” of they were hiding something…lives could have been saved, families could have been spaired, if they would have just stopped for the cops!

  28. mcmuffin on March 8th, 2011 12:21 pm

Call me insensitive, hard-hearted, whatever, but when you make the choice to put other peope’s life in danger then I no longer care about your life. Speeding through neighborhoods, running stop signs, running from the police through city streets, etc. is no different than taking a gun into a crowded mall and randomly shooting at people. When you do that, you need to be stopped at any cost before you kill innocent people. I hate it for the families, they are innocent victims also, but what this driver did was wrong.

  29. Constitutionally Committed on March 8th, 2011 11:30 am

Only glad an innocent person was not injured/killed, innocent people don’t run from the law! Seems like an inordinate amount of criminal behavior in Atmore! I have personally seen dozens run through stop signs, drinking while driving in daytime hours, people shoplifting in stores, rude behavior and many selfish people who only care about themselves! We are living in sad times for sure!!

  30. danielsgirl on March 8th, 2011 11:15 am

JoJo – I really enjoyed your post, I agree with all that you said.

  31. citizen who's fed up with bad citizens blaming cops!!!! on March 8th, 2011 11:09 am

Come on people, really?!?!?! Blame the cops? NO!!!! Lets blame the DRIVER of the car for speeding and running, AND by doing those things he was breaking the law and endangering the lives of EVERYONE in that area! And the people who constantly blame cops for the stupid actions of others need to stop, and thank God for the police who serve and defend all of us. If you really knew what they have to put up with when they are just trying to do their jobs! I shutter to think that anyone else could have been hurt in this, especially the police officer who was just doing his job while some morons where having a “good time” speeding around town. Thank God my family or friends or other innocent—- let me say that again INNOCENT!!!!! people weren’t injured by someone who can’t obey the simple law! Who speeds through an intersection at a high rate of speed and then doesn’t stop for the law enforcement officer who is just doing his job trying to keep the town and citizens safe? SOMEONE WHO IS BREAKING THE LAW AND HAS NO RESPECT OF AUTHORITY THAT’S WHO! I know it’s heartbreaking for the families involved because you lost someone precious to you (we have ALL lost someone in our lives and that is tragic) but I agree with Danielsgirl – cars don’t just fly for no reason, and I don’t run every time I see a police car either. We all like to think that our kids, or our family members wouldn’t be doing anything they shouldn’t be doing or out breaking the law so there for it has to be someone else fault. But the truth of the matter is they DO, and sometimes they pay for those actions with the loss of a life, either theirs or an innocent bystander. If the others who are in the hospital survive I hope they turn their lives around and make more responsible choices.

  32. danielsgirl on March 8th, 2011 10:47 am

It’s sad for the families left behind, but the driver of the car who either ran from the cops or was speeding (or a combination of both) caused this to happen. Cops don’t just chase people for no reason. Cars don’t just fly through the air and crash and kill people for no reason. I’ve been driving for 14 years and never once have I had a cop chase me for anything, and never once has my car just mysteriously flown through the air. And since I’m not doing anything illegal or wrong I don’t freak out when I see a cop. If your automatic response is to slam the gas down and run when you see a cop you have more issues than you think. If you are a responsible driver, follow the law, and use common sense these things don’t happen. Cops aren’t the bad people, thank God that we have cops! And I hope the ones who were in the wrong suffer the consequences, but I do feel bad for the families left behind to try to move on with their lives since they lost family members because of idiotic actions.

  33. JoJo on March 8th, 2011 10:38 am

When I was a young man in the 1970s, I wore long hair and was a target to many police officers. Needless to say I got into some trouble, some deserved, some not. I felt then, and still do, that many police singled me out because of my appearance and the crowd I hung with. I made it a point to become a thorn in these bad police officers side. So I went to college and studied, among other things, criminal justice so I would have knowledge of not only the law, but of police policies and procedures to be able to expose these bad cops. I realize that (A) law enforcement is necessary and needed for a free and safe society, (B) not all or even most police officers are bad, only a select few, and (C) police officers are human and subject to the same mistakes I am. So I will be the first one to call out a bad cop. But it really irks me when people blatantly make up lies when the police are acting within their guidelines and within the law. That is what we want them to do, and when false accusations are made, it waters down the legitimate complaints made when police do wrong. Much like the fabled boy who cried “wolf!”, people (ie juries, judges, prosecutors, etc.), are reluctant to believe or prosecute the bad officers after so many complaints are proven to be nothing but lies and false allegations. Many people fought and some even died to expose corruption and to have their voices heard in the courtrooms and in society. When we finally start being heard, then people lie. I have a serious problem when police, or anyone held in the public trust, misuses their position of authority. But, I have absolutely no problem when they do what they are supposed to do. In fact that it what we should demand of them. So when they are doing what they are supposed to do, stop lying to expose something that is not there. I think it is written somewhere in the Bible “cursed are those who call evil good, and good evil”. Right is right and wrong is wrong. If you or your loved one was wrong and got caught, you are not alone. But accept the fact, and move on. If you are right and falsely accused of being wrong, then stand up and fight. But when you are wrong and fight as if you were right, then you undermine justice.

    Ditto Football Mom.
Misspelling, run-on sentences, wrong or no punctuation – I tried to get through every posting here…..but some, well, I just have no idea what was said.

It’s sad schools are forced to graduate students every year that write like these comments are written. I hate it when I hear things like that is the teachers’ fault. Anyone with any sense knows the truth. Just like anyone with any sense knows this accident wasn’t the cop’s fault.

  35. concerned citizen on March 8th, 2011 8:57 am

I really wasn’t going to comment on this, but I will.. First of all, any time there is a loss of life, especially in a situation like this, it is a tragedy, and should be investigated closely.. Second, I have served on a grand jury in Escambia county Alabama, and every accidental or un-natural death during the period covered was presented to us.. I really believe that if everyone will let the legal system take it’s course, that the truth will come out.. I am certain that the police car can be examined, as well as the statements taken from any eyewitnesses or others involved.. There is a reason for the existence of a thing called the law, and the law is all that separates us from the barbarians..

  36. Football Mom on March 8th, 2011 8:24 am

I’m on here reading about conspiracy theory’s and how everyone in the driver of Pixie Dust’s family just happened to be sitting at said railroad crossing at the exact time he jumped the tracks or was pushed or whatever but my suggestion is this………..It would be a little easier to read “your side of the story” if you used even somewhat proper grammer or spelling. The first few ones I tried to find my way through but now I just skip over it becuase it really makes no sense.

    LOL @ k. pettaway

  38. AC on March 8th, 2011 7:39 am

I do not recall saying one bad thing about the deceased or any of the victims here except to say that they were wrong to run from the police and put people’s life in jeopardy. If that offends, then I am sorry, but I thought everyone already knew that. My negative comments were for the posters saying that there are all these witnesses who swear this car was NOT running from police and the police car hit the car so hard it went flying hundreds of feet through the air. To wooooowww/Kendra, you are right, I wasn’t there. But neither were you and none of us know exactly what happened. But I have enough common sense to know what some are proposing is IMPOSSIBLE. I don’t have to be there to know that what is impossible didn’t really happen. To the family members who have posted here: I am truly sorry for your loss. But you cannot expect to come onto a public forum, make idle threats and wild accusations without being called out for them. If you wish to grieve in peace, then grieve in peace. But what you are doing is not peaceful. I don’t know if the police hit this car or not. I just know there is no way on earth that ANY car can hit another car from behind hard enough to do what is being claimed. I do know that the police can legally hit a car (I think it is called a PIT maneuver) if they belive the fleeing car do be a danger. I’m not saying that is or is not what happened, I do not know and neither do you. Someone asked how I would feel if this were a member of my family. I would be terribly hurt. So hurt that I would not make wild accusations of a public forum and be surprised when people call me out on them. So hurt that I would probably not even want to read the news accounts of the tragedy. In fact, I have had a family member very dear to my heart die in a car accident. It hurt, and still does. But I did not get angry, I got sad. I never threatened anyone, made up impossible scenarios and try to convince people that’s what really happened. I cried and said goodbye. If the police were wrong, they were wrong. But what is being posted here that they did was neither wrong or possible. If the officer was simply trying to stop a speeding vehicle that was running stop signs, then he was doing the job we taxpayers are paying him to do. If that fleeing vehicle was driving as dangerously as it appears, then he LEGALLY had the right to use deadly force to stop that vehicle. It serves no good purpose to make up wild accusations and lies to try and destroy his career, reputation, and life when he was doing what he was supposed to do just because you are grieving. Stop suggesting there is some conspiracy because someone’s age might have been mis-stated. Which proves my earliier point of why government agencies usually wait to get everything together before making a news release. People take every little mistake a scrutinize over it (even someones age) and theorize about cover-ups and conspiracies.

I just read the article at the Mobile Press Register website. Where is the tale about the APD officer hitting the car coming from? Neither this artile or the one at the MPR site say anything about it. It seems to me that the police car didn’t even have time to catch up to the car – much less hit it. The wreck was scattered over 5 blocks???? Wow! The driver was flying – or trying to. It’s a miracle that no other cars were hit and others hurt or killed.

I feel for the family of all involved. I pray God will comfort them.

I commend the APD officer for doing his duty. I’m sorry some who have posted here think he didn’t.

There are 2 parts to my comment…

    First Part: To AC

“It was 10 witnesses to say that the car was hit by a police car from behind, so I guess it would jump the raidroad track’s…….’

I want you to notice a KEY letter in that sentence. And that letter would be ‘a’. The car was hit by A police car…so not necesarily(idk how to spell that) the car that was traveling south. Also…if the car was hit by the police at an incline such as a railroad crossing I’m sure that what happened could happen.(freak accidents have you ever heard of them?) I’m not saying thats what happened. And I’m not saying thats what didnt happen…all I’m saying is it definitely could have happened. And that you should just tone down with your negative comments.

    Second Part: To the Families
I’m sorry for all the troubles the families are going through at this time. I pray that that the 2 survivors stay survivors and that the families can find peace in such a Horrific time.

As I sit here and read the acqucations and assumptions written by the cowards that call themselves citicezns of Atmore my heart is deeply sadden… This is a time were we should be uplifting the families of the victim(s). Regardless of the evidence or lack of evidence ,a life has been lost!!! Come on people!!! Look at what we have become! Have we forgotten??? ‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD. – Leviticus 19:18…

To the families of the victim(s) I offer a few words of comfort…You don’t get over it, you just get through it.  You don’t get by it, because you can’t get around it.  It doesn’t get better it just gets different.  Everyday… Grief puts on a new face…. But as long as you all remember Although it’s difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory of your love one help comfort you tomorrow.

Your full of it! Enough, you know your wrong. First of all what in the world would any PD have to gain by doing something like your trying to say they did? For a car to travel that distance the police car would have had to be seriously damaged and amazingly enough I do not see a picture of it here. Or perhaps just maybe the car was going that fast that it went airborne for that distance. Oh excuse me I guess William must have just forgotten to take the picture of the mangled cruizer. Come on people your being stupid. By definition stupidity is when you know better and do it any way.

People need to stop screaming conspiracy every time something happens in their community. I hate someone-make that anyone has to lose their life in something so senseless. But we as a community need to recognize and admit that our youth have a problem with authority and that there are some really bad, evil people out there. I didn’t know the young man, so before people start bashing, I’m not speaking of him. This should serve as a wake up call to our youth that “Life given by God is precious, treasure it, respect it, live it to the fullest”. Don’t become a senseless statistic over something trivial. Absolutely Nothing any of us can say will convence these people that the Driver Was In The Wrong… they see things their own different way because They think everything they do is right. The Driver WAS Wrong, the officer was doing his duty. I guess if the driver would have run down innocent people that would have been alright with those people to.
I don’t know who that is that thinks hes a preacher but for your information…”You can judge them by their fruits”.. Sir… Their fruit was rotten.

  70. AC on March 7th, 2011 6:19 pm

Robert: I wasn’t aware that the police ever denied being in a pursuit. Law enforcement, or other government agencies, routinely wait to get the facts together before releasing an official news release on ANY incident. That does not arouse my suspicion at all. But, if they initially denied a pursuit, and later recanted, then I would be a little more suspicious. If you have information that they did this then you should come forward with it. Of course, I don’t know that they would have had time to call this a pursuit since it apparently began at Presley and Horner Street and ended about a quarter mile or so later. Judging by where the car landed and the damage done, I would guess that the Pixie car was probably travelling close to 80-100 mph. The cop probably didn’t have time to get turned around, much less call a pursuit, before the accident happened. Of course, according to these “witnesses”, the cop not only had time to turn around, but to gather enough speed to knock a 4,000 pound car several hundred feet through the air, without wrecking his own vehicle! Again, I WANT ONE OF THESE VEHICLES that are capable of doing that!!

  71. Jim W on March 7th, 2011 5:54 pm

For all of you who are pointing your fingers at APD I suppose there could be a cover up but what would the APD have to gain from it. Do you honestly think they go and harass the citizens in the city. Come on get your heads together you must have been around drugs or criminal activity to long. They don’t do that kind of stuff. On the other hand if they ever were found to do something like that I would be one of the first people on their cases.
This whole thing could have been avoided if the driver would have complied with the police by pulling over when he was suppose to. Call it the way it is and make no more excuses the driver messed up and now it has cost two other people their lives. It is a sad thing for all involved but do not try and paint it the way you are doing your wrong based on the reports.

This just goes to show how some people think they can out smart the law and that the law doesn’t pertain to them. This accident could have been prevented if the driver would have just pulled over got his traffic ticket for disobeying the law and he would still be alive but NOOOO, he figured he could out run the officer and get away with a crime. That is what running from the police is… A Crime.

  74. Robert Heston on March 7th, 2011 4:47 pm

Has anyone figured out why it took so long for the police to come forward and admit that they were actually involved in a high speed pursuit with the automobile.

    2. Does anyone find it odd that all local news outlet websites, (Brewton Standard, Atmore Advance) first reported that the car lost control while driving insuating a one-vehicle accident occurred?

    3. Why was it only until 15 hours later that a press release was made by the APD, admitting the pursuit?

    4. Add it all up. The Atmore Police Department made themselves look suspicious from the beginning; They reported to the media incidences that led them to believe that this was a one vehicle accident, an erratic driving who lost control of their automobile.

    5. Naysayers, Defenders of the APD, its not hard to see the coverup, the suspicousness, say all you want, but in the end the truth will come out, these men have souls, have families and no one should judge whether they were right, wrong, going to hell, etc. God has the final say so!

  77. AC on March 7th, 2011 3:57 pm

Adam: there are NOT 10 witnesses, there is not even one “credible” witness. If I told you that I had 10 witnesses that saw a fat man in a red suit flying through the air with his flying deer would you believe me? Of course you wouldn’t, or at least I hope you would be smart enough to see the IMPOSSIBLITY of that. Just as anyone with one ounce of common sense can see the impossiblity of what these supposed witnesses are saying. This is someone looking for a lawsuit and making stuff up, that’s all. I’m truly sorry for your loss, but your trying to destroy other’s lives with such obvious lies causes a little bit of that sympathy to fade. Two wrongs don’t make a right, your cousin was wrong to run from the police, but you and your “witnesses” are even more wrong to make stuff up, especially when it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The driver of that vehicle put his life, the life of his passengers, the lives of every person on the street that night, as well as the police officer’s life in jeopardy that night. The police are SWORN to protect those lives if at all possible. The officer was right to try to stop that driver, ANY WAY HE COULD before any more lives were lost. As bad as this was, it could have been a lot worse. The officer did his job, stop trying to ruin his life by lying on him. If you read your Bible, bearing false witness against someone can cause YOU to “burn in hell” the way you wished upon that officer.

I forgot to say I do have sympathy for the families and friends who are having to go thru this as a result of their loved ones bad judgement.

  81. Atmore Res on March 7th, 2011 2:51 pm

There’s no a day goes by that we don’t hear sirens – several times. But Atmore newspapers do not tell about the bad things that happen here. Wish we had a newspaper like the Tri-City Ledger that actually tells the news.

If the guy ran stop signs, and a cop came up and hit his llights, he should have pulled over. Someone in that car paid a high price because the person driving broke the law. And if the cop hit him at the railroad tracks I doubt it was hard enough to cause a wreck of this magnatude unless the driver was going at a very high speed in downtown Atmore. And…..with Pixie Dust painted on the car, he was hoping to get attention……and he did.

Cars speed all the time in front of my house – and motorcycles – and I live within the city limits. If I had small children I would not let them play in the front yard. My son was riding his bicycle one afternoon and someone ran a stop sign and hit him. Thank Heaven my son saw it coming and swerved so he wasn’t hurt, just shook up.

I thought that most people here just didn’t know what a 4 way stop meant – I guess there are some that don’t know what a stop sign means either.

  82. Jim W on March 7th, 2011 2:51 pm

(This is for fed up.) Do you have any idea how stupid it sounds for you to say what you just said “They were not running from the law” Whatever the case you do not go airborne for 250 feet and land with out moving at a high rate of speed over an elevated mound of dirt. In this case the railroad which is built up higher than the road. It is amazing to me how people like you are so ready and willing to defend the ones who broke the law. It defeys th law of common sense for them to have been hit from the rear that hard. Come on give us a break thats a bunch of garbage and you know it.

  83. PTTF on March 7th, 2011 2:43 pm

Another OBVIOUS lie!! If the car was not running from police as you say, was it stopped? Was it travelling at a safe speed? To prove my point, get into your vehicle, find a junk car somewhere and hit it from behind so hard it flies through the air, flips several times and does the damage that was done to this vehicle. IF you survive the crash, I can promise you your vehicle will not. Now, if the car was travelling at a high rate of speed, hit an incline, say the railroad tracks, it could and would have gone airborne and possibly caused the driver to lose control. You see, there is this little thing called “physics” which you obviously never studied in school, that proves or disproves certain things happen in a certain way. I’m not saying the police did not bump the car, but there is no way possible to hit it hard enough to cause it to fly through the air. Tell the truth, and stop making stuff up; or better yet continue to lie and make a fool of yourself.

  85. atmore on March 7th, 2011 2:16 pm

You know..I know there are cops around here that do their jobs and never goof off…But at the same time I know that there have been several times that I almost got side swipped as well as rear ended by cops that are flying WITH NO EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON!!! It’s insane how they drive. I was sitting at a stop sign about to pull onto hwy 31 the other night and one came flying by and got to the RED LIGHT and hit his emergency lights and when he got thru it he turned them off, I’m almost certain he was only heading to the police station. Several years back I had a couple cops that I talked to pretty regularly, and they would always joke about how they would race to the police station at night…It’s really sad! I hope that what ever really happend comes out in the end. I’m praying for the families and all involved, as well as for the cop that may or may not have caused this…It’s a fuzzy situation right now and no one knows except the people that were involved, and the witnesses…I just hope the cop is not blamed if it wasn’t his fault and I hope that just because the cop is a cop he doesn’t get away with it if it was his fault. The families of these people deserve the truth.

  86. AC on March 7th, 2011 2:14 pm

“It was 10 witnesses to say that the car was hit by a police car from behind, so I guess it would jump the raidroad track’s…….’

Given time to (1) turn around, (2) accelerate to that speed in that short of distance, and (3) hit the car from behind so hard that it flew through the air, flipped several times, and landed facing the opposite direction… WHERE CAN I GET ONE OF THESE POLICE CARS!!!??? First of all, if the police car turned around on a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed at Presley and Horner streets, he would probably not have time to even catch up with the vehicle by the time it reached the tracks. Secondly, to hit a moving vehicle from behind with enough force to cause it to do those type of acrobatics is against the laws of physics. Thirdly, even if somehow, in some sort of matrix or alternate universe or something, the police vehicle could hit another car with that kind of force, there would have been at least one more totalled vehicle at the scene (the police vehicle). So while you may be “fed up wit bad law enforcements”, I’m fed up with people who purposely lie (obviously) just to try to make others look bad, in the case, law enforcement. I don’t know what all happened here, as none of us do, but your “witnesses” have absolutely NO credibility if they’re saying that.

Death is in the air. It is just lingering. Everyone else should pay close attention to all that is going on. All these warning signs. This is terrible. I pray for peace and comfort for the families.

This is why we shouldn’t jump a railroad crossing, whether it’s for fun and kicks or to beat a train. I feel bad for the victims families, but this shouldn’t have happened. There’s been too too many fatalities around those crossings.
