Molino Man Injured In Motorcyle Vs. Deer Crash

March 14, 2011

A Molino man was injured Monday night when he struck a deer with his motorcycle.

Marc Eugene Cayson, 42, was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital following the crash about 7:30 on Jacks Branch Road near Barrineau Lane. The Florida Highway Patrol said Cayson was thrown from his motorcycle after coming into contact with  the deer. An independent witness verified seeing the deer, which had fled the area by the time emergency workers arrived.

The Molino Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and Escambia County EMS also responded to the crash.

This was me. 3 fractures, and some bruising as well as road rash on the back of my hands. Full face helmet and leather jacket worked as advertised. Be back to normal in a few weeks.

I think the deer season should be longer because more and more people are being hurt on the road. My nephew is a district manager of one of the major insurance companies in Atlanta, Ga and they have been giving out the whistle-type alerts to put on cars to scare the deer from the road. Our insurance premiums are going up every day because so many claims are submitted for hitting deer. It is so dangerous. Let’s get behind a bill to extend the season and that will get rid of some of these. I’m so thankful to God this man was spared from losing his life.

I have lived in this area all my life. The deer have always been here. I do know however that I see more of them now than I did 20yrs. ago. I don’t know if it is because the deer population has exploded or that more and more land is being developed and forcing them out more. Either way they do seem to more of a problem now than in the past. Don’t know the solution but it seems that more should be done to control the population.
I hope for a speedy recovery for the man injured.

Thank the Lord he’s ok! To all the people that think it’s the deer’s fault… What would you do if someone was tilling and planting nice open fields for you to eat? Setting out salt licks, feeding you tasty corn from timed feeders… killing off coyotes… and no more bear to speak of? The deer around here are on welfare, and they multiply like rabbits on all the free handouts.

Thank you for your prayers for my Husband, he is fine. Thank you LORD just a little banged up and a couple of weeks of healing.

Luckiily he was only doing 45mph and that he didn’t collide with the deer.
Also thank you for the people that were there to help him. GOD bless you :)

He had just bought the bike and was riding it home. These things happen I guess.

This year I wrote to 3 game wardens in Alabama in support of extending deer hunting season 5 additional days. The way to change hunting laws is to be an outspoken advocate. Here is some food for thought—Development of woodlands is decreasing deer habitat, more deer per acre will cause disease and birth defects in deer herds which may eventually affect other woodland creatures and/or humans (zoonotic diseases–transmissible between animals and people), deer crashes are becoming more frequent killing and debilitating many people each year, vehicle insurance costs will escalate because of more deer/vehicle crashes, food costs are skyrocketing and deer is an excellent source of meat, new hunters need additional time for learning deer harvesting techniques and weapon control.

Even if the extended season were only for youth or disabled individuals, it would help thin deer herds a little. Write your Fish and Wildlife officials today, talk with and write to your Game Wardens, write and call your Congressional representatives. Bring attention to the problem and don’t wait for someone else to do it.

12 broke bones in right wrist, collapsed lung, bruised heart, took out both knees, both feet black and several places where the meat is gone. $80,000.00 to Sacred Heart plus $15,000.00 Life Flight. Still paying bills after 7 months. I do good just to walk and yes all because of a deer. I wish they would catch some disease and kill of about 90% of them.

My wife’s family lives in Pensacola and coming home to Alabama on hwy 29 she counted 17 deer in one bunch. She saw over 30 all together and this was last week. Alabama doesn’t want to extend deer season and the roads are full of them. I do my best to kill as many as I can in or out of season. I would like for the state to pay for some of these bills if they want to regulate and control the wildlife.

If you google motorcyclist hitting deer you will see that this happens often, I hope the rider pulls through alright. I ride and had a few close calls with animals AND people walking out in front of me. I’ve been hit by cars three times and I would like to thin out the cell phone/texting while driving heard…

Thes hunting clubs need to start thining out the does, the deer are multiplying too fast. The herd will deminish in size and health when there are too many deer. They are a danger to the public now and need a reduction plan for the hunting season. The clubs need to realize these facts and do something to help reduce the numbers. Large Bucks do not come from overcrowded herds.

Something needs to be done about the deer situation. It is out of control. I had to have my car repaired twice in one month. My hood, bumper and grille are new. Why anyone would ride a motorcycle in this area, is beyond me.

I was coming home late last night from Cantonment to Century by Hwy 29. I know that Jacks Branch is nowhere close to the location of this wreck, but that night I counted at least 15 deer on the roadside. By time you see them, its nearly too late.

    My condolences to this family.
