Local Flood Photos Featured In National Weather Service Booklet

March 16, 2011

atmore-flood-051.jpgA new National Weather Service publication about the dangers of weather includes a couple of local area photos.

The “Alabama All Hazards Awareness Book” includes three NorthEscambia.com photos of flooding in downtown Atmore on December 14, 2009, to illustrate the dangers of nighttime flooding. “Be especially cautious at night, when it is harder to recognize flood dangers,” the publication warns.

The publication is an educational publication provided free of charge to citizens throughout the state to enhance natural hazards disaster preparedness, according to Tara Golden of the National Weather Service in Birmingham. The booklet was a joint project of the National Weather Service, the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, and the Alabama SKYWARN Foundation.
