Local 4th Of July Fireworks Could Return As Joint Flomaton, Century Project
March 23, 2011
Fourth of July fireworks could once again light up the summer sky this year in Flomaton.
Plans are underway for the town of Flomaton, the town of Century, the Flomaton Chamber of Commerce and the Century Chamber of Commerce to split the $2,500 fireworks cost at an even $625 each. If the show goes on, it will take place over the lake at Hurricane Park.
The Century Town Council says they are game to chip in their $625 — with a catch. The Century council wants Flomaton to agree that the fireworks show will take place in Century in 2012.
There’s no word yet from the town of Flomaton if they are willing to help fund a show in Century next year.
The $2,500 cost includes both the fireworks show and liability insurance.

I hope this event goes well for all involved. It certainly is a step in the right direction.
I would love for Century and Flomaton to have fireworks once again. With the cost of gas right now, and supposedly getting higher by summer, this would be a great event for families, without a whole lot of traveling. Great Idea!
Flomaton resident, neither am I trying to be a smart butt and resident could have been referring to the one on highway 31.
She (resident) made some remarks about Mayor McCall and the town of Century that most residents of Century would call offensive. Mayor McCall is trying to better Century and the ‘Anthony Pleasant thingie,’ resident referred to is for a good cause. The lights in the old high school were not being used so why not put them in a place where they are doing good.
I wasnt trying to be a smart butt, sorry if it came across that way. I was just saying that ” Resident” was probably refering to the Bondurants that is on Hwy 31 going out of town in Flomaton.
Flomaton resident if you look in the phone book, you will not find Bondurant Lumber on highway 31 but you will find Bondurant Lumber and Hardware located in Century, Florida. I do agree that more things need to be planned for the twin cities.
Actually Poohbear Bondurant Hardware is in Century, Bondurant Lumber is on Hwy 31 in Flomaton! I think its a great idea to have a fireworks show in either town. There are not enough activities that go on between the two towns. We need things that make people want to be proud of their town and participate in things instead of having to go to Jay, Brewton or anywhere else to have family outings.

You man up and pay the $2,500 Oh I see!!! You don’t have it either.
Century has a good Mayor and keeps his word. What about “your” Mayor?
Also if you will notice Bondurant Lumber is in the Good Town Of Century, Florida.
It’s about time Flomaton and Century connect back together !!!!!!!!! they need todo a bigggggggggggggggggggggg xmas parade like it use to be start from Century!!!
Sometimes Century just does not think. Where would Century have a fireworks show? Whether it be Showalter Park, Anthony Pleasant thingie, Marie McMurray Park or Lake Stone, there’s is not adequate parking at anywhere. Could you park hundreds of cars at Lake Stone? I think not.
Flomaton has the space at Hurricane Park, and they’ve got the parking right across the street at the high school.
Oh, by the way, don’t answer “the old high school”. They mayor is ripping the lights out of the old stadium and moving them to Anthony Pleasant Park.
If I were Flomaton, I would just man up and pay the whole $2,500 without dealing with the Devil in Century. Find a couple of business sponsors. “The Bondurant Lumber, Alabama Power – Flomaton Fireworks Show”
I think that is an excellent idea on the part of our town council! The only concern I have is that Flomaton has been known to bail out on Fireworks shows in the past. If they agree to our terms, I hope they keep their word.
