Ironic Photo: ‘Buckle Up Or Pay Up’

March 18, 2011

Just two days after the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office began a two-week crackdown on seat belt use in Escambia County, our cameras happened upon the pictured traffic stop Thursday afternoon in Walnut Hill.

The driver of this pickup was pulled over on Highway 97 after an Escambia County deputy observed him not wearing a seat belt. It’s worth noting the bumper sticker on the truck — “Buckle Up! Or Pay Up!”.

Regarding comment by Paul and David Huie Green about avoiding vehicles with the fish symbol……..GREAT IDEA! Think I’ll get me a couple of those stickers and maybe more of the folks on the road will take your thoughts to heart and not drive so close to ME!!!

    OMRBH……….not wanting to be crowded

    REGARDING:
When I see the fish bumper sticker I steer clear, those people seem to be the worst drivers”

Some of them are putting too much trust in their co-pilot, not enough attention to what they’re doing themselves.

David thinking true irony would be
a photo of a deputy without seat belt

    REGARDING:
“Motorcyclists are not required to wear them. Although seat belts are a good idea, this is not a constitutional law.”

Nothing in the Constitution requires you to treat motorcycles the same as cars or trucks. Nothing in the Constitution permits you to drive on the road without regard to laws.

Sometimes I get the impression folks are confusing the Constitution with their kindergarten teachers.
“Nobody gets a star unless everybody gets a star.”
“Nobody gets a reward unless everybody gets a reward.”

Surely we’re more mature than that.

Meanwhile, I tend to agree we should not have that law but that all killed in accident while not wearing a seat belt would be considered implied organ donors since that’s what they seem to be shooting for.

    David for proper reading,
    personal responsibility,
    spare parts

I had two trucks in one day run me off the road while I was on my bike and both of them had watch for motorcycles bumper stickers. When I see the fish bumper sticker I steer clear, those people seem to be the worst drivers..

Really funny! Just goes to show that you should “practice what you preach”.. At least it wasn’t some guy getting stopped for drugs whith a DARE bumper sticker..

That’s a hand-drawn sticker, too! Someone went out of their way to make this and put it on their vehicle.

Poor guy. He was probably a hard working man heading to work. Now he has to throw away about $116.00 bucks more to the system.

If you get one of these tickets, and you have time to go to court, it’s a cinch to beat it. Just tell them that enforcement is not equally applied. Motorcyclists are not required to wear them. Although seat belts are a good idea, this is not a constitutional law.

    That is too funny!!!

Lord knows, we’re all human. I hope the driver remembers every time now : ) Stay safe, everyone.

This gave me a pretty good laugh….thanks for the story.

Maybe the driver will take heed to own bumper sticker for now on…
