Escambia Deputy Involved In Traffic Crash

March 4, 2011

An Escambia County deputy received minor injuries in a traffic crash with two Alabama residents Thursday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Deputy Michael Milstead,32, was traveling west on Barrancas Avenue in a marked 2007 Ford Crown Victoria about 9:10 p.m. That’s when Daniel Stamaris, Jr., 51, of Headland, Alabama, was also westbound in the center turn lane before tuning into the path of Milstead’s cruiser.

Both vehicles then ran off the road. The deputy’s cruiser hits a utility pole, while Stamaris hit a business sign. Stamaris and his passenger, Heather Stamaris, 35, also of Headland, were transported to Baptist Hospital with minor injuries. Milstead also received minor injuries and was transported to Baptist Hospital.

There were no charges filed in connection with the accident.

The driver and passenger of the red truck, or the “at fault vehicle” as some of you so blindly said, happened to be my parents. It was a complete accident. However, for those of you who are beyond ignorant, the police officer WAS at fault. He was driving entirely too fast without his lights, and wasn’t paying attention to what was going on on all sides of his vehicle. Please think before you comment on something. Use your brain. Don’t be ignorant. My parents weren’t hurt (thankfully) but I’m sure most of you don’t care about that part.. Naturally, the ignorant human being just wants something to talk about. Both parties ended up having minor injuries, like the article said. Word from the wise… Watch what you say. Karma always comes back around. Would you like it if nasty things were said about your family that was involved in an accident? God bless you all.

i’ve heard the officer was reporting to a robbery in progress call. hence the higher speed and no lights… lets think before we type.

“McNesby again” said “Why were no charges filed?

    I smell a rat……”

Sweetheart, read the comments where a helpful poster explained this already. Just because you are in a wreck doesn’t = prison time. (YET – give big government enough time and you may get your wish)

    Why were no charges filed?

    I smell a rat……

On the brightside, Tommy Holmes at Outcast Bait and Tackle gets more coverage for his annual sale (which has awesome deals IMO) and he gets a new sign…..

Isn’t the speed limit along that strech of road 35 m.p.h.? From the looks of the damage that car was flying!

    Wonderin,
There is no “charge” in a traffic crash unless something labeled a “Criminal” traffic violation happened. I don’t know exactly what happened in this case, as I did not investigate it but, if the driver had a good license and was not drunk, there will only be a “moving violation” (most people refer to as a ticket) as the “charge” if you will. That means whoever is at fault will most likely receive a traffic citation and their insurance will have to pay for the damages to the other vehicle. Thats like saying if you rear end someone they will go to jail. I don’t know if that is what you meant being “charged”, just some food for thought. Most likely the truck by what the article said was the at fault vehicle and received a citation for such. But there is no reason to go to jail for making a bad lane change. Accidents happen. Now if someone was drunk or intended to hit the Deputy that is a completely different story. However, by what I am gathering by the reporting (pnj, wear, and this site) on this wreck, that is not the case. Hope this helps.

Sounds like someone needs to wake up and pay attention. Glad nothing serious came out of this one.
