Deputies: Man, 40, Resists Arrest, Refuses To Drop His Doll And Blanket

March 8, 2011

A 40-year old Century man that smelled of alcohol was charged with resisting arrest after struggling with deputies and refusing to drop a doll and a blanket he was holding while walking down a local highway.

When an Escambia County deputy responded to a reported disturbance in the area of Highway 4A and Hecker Road Sunday night, they found Darron McDonald walking in the middle of the highway behind a SUV occupied by a female. The responding deputy wrote in the arrest report that McDonald refused verbal commands to stand in front of his patrol vehicle; instead he began yelling “She’s lying, she’s lying. Ya’ll are going to believe her”.

The deputy attempted to handcuff McDonald, but he continued yelling and refused to let go of a blanket and doll he was holding in his left hand, according to the report. After about a minute, he let go of the blanket and doll, at which time he was handcuffed by the deputy. When the deputy attempted to place McDonald in the patrol vehicle, he began to physically resist. Two other deputies arrived, according to the report, and assisted McDonald into the patrol vehicle.

According to the arrest report, McDonald had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and person.

McDonald remained in the Escambia County Jail Monday night with bond set at $1,500.

It was right in front of my house and he gave the deputies a hard time people need to respect the cops that are trying to help the communtiy out. But how can they when they are drunk as a skunk?

“…It doesn’t say in the article he was doing a bad act.”

Walking in the middle of the highway drunk IS a bad act. Sorry.

    REGARDING:
“- – -anyone would be aggravated being bothered knowing you were being profiled.”

    Please consider the report:
“When an Escambia County deputy responded to a reported disturbance in the area of Highway 4A and Hecker Road Sunday night, they found Darron McDonald walking in the middle of the highway behind a SUV occupied by a female. How do you figure this constitutes profiling and by whom?

    David wondering

just sayin: He must’ve gotten his doll and blanky back because he looks real happy in his mug shot!

If he was real happy, wouldn’t he be sucking his thumb?

Ok, so this guy has a small daughter, maybe 1 1/2 yrs old. I’m sure the doll and blankie was hers. The chick in the SUV was probably the girlfriend, and he was just in a drunken stupor trying to get back to them both. Hopefully girlfriend will keep herself and the child safe from him. He’s a deadbeat, but he’s not a mental case. Just pitching a good drunk. And that’s the facts ma’am, just the facts.

We’ll I really dont see why he went to jail in the first place. I understand he didn’t follow commands but anyone would be aggrevated being bothered knowing you were being profiled. It doesn’t say in the article he was doing a bad act. And it looks that he is intoxicated and there also is other problems in the mans life we are not here to judge. If the mans comfort zone is his doll and blanket WHO ARE YOU to judge and make fun of. You all sound like 3rd and 4th graders picking on a little helpless kids. Just don’t think he should be sitting behind bars. Because all you people dont know what your life is going to bring you tomorrow. you could be a total veggie to being brain dead at an instance. Your family wouldn’t like to have to read all the stupid comments.

  10. El Duque on March 8th, 2011 3:07 pm

I would be checking that doll for drugs. That might be where he holds his stash.???

  11. Jim W on March 8th, 2011 1:48 pm

There is more than meets the eye here for sure. The whole story is yet to come. Sounds like the man is either on some very good drugs or he is in need of some serious help mentally. If it is mental I hope he gets the help needed.

@you need to re-read my entire post from a different view point.
IT was supposed to be funny.
Thats why I said in the last statement “on a lighter note”
Oh I see why you thought that was serious.
I should have said in the last sentence “on a serious note”.

Well I guess I figured everyone got it.,

    NOPE….I was wrong.
David besure to write that down. lol

  14. What? on March 8th, 2011 12:19 pm

Horrific……are you calling the police or the posters on this sight idiots? I don’t see anything in the article or the posts that constitutes calling anyone an idiot or that gives you that right. And what “you people” are you telling that they should be smarter than their five year old? Nothing in the article or the posts here indicate that any of the people are not smarter than their five year old, if they indeed have or have ever had a 5 yr old.
I think the person with the doll and blanket just might have problems other than alcohol, but I’m no expert. From the article I don’t see that the police mishandled the situation.

  15. Dave on March 8th, 2011 11:39 am

I”ve never heard of a drunk displaying this type of conduct. Perhaps alcohol is not the sole reason for his actions. Mental evaluation shound”t be off the table.

  16. Horrific! on March 8th, 2011 10:57 am

    idiots

They made him drop his doll and blanket. Didn’t they expect him to
resist arrest at that point? They should have just put the doll and blankie in the patrol car and watched him crawl in after it.

I tell you people all the time, you have to smarter than your 5 year olds.

On a lighter note if this guy has mental issues other than alcohol or drugs
I hope they get him where he needs to go for help.

  17. shae on March 8th, 2011 10:53 am

After inspection for concealed weapons, you should have given the doll and blanky back. You don’t take thinks like that away from the mentally ill. You could cause more damage. A qualified physician needs to handle that situation.

  18. lol on March 8th, 2011 10:50 am

    Doll & blanket = security!?

  19. E S C A M B I A T E on March 8th, 2011 10:18 am

Don’t judge, the man obviously has problems/issues.

  20. Crystal on March 8th, 2011 10:14 am

People do ridiculous things while intoxicated. He probably doesn’t even remember this happening. I agree with Elizabeth; I’m sure he misses his blanky. LOL!

  21. art on March 8th, 2011 10:06 am

see a lot of sadness in this mans face. there is no telling what he is thinking about, what kind of idea he has about reality and so forth. really sad and i do hope this fellow gets the help he needs.
