Frontier Phone Service, 911 Outage Repaired

March 23, 2011

(Updated) Thousands of Frontier Communications local telephone customers in North Escambia were unable to make some calls, including calls to 911, Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

But by noon Wednesday, all service was restored, according to Stephanie Schifano, communications manager for Frontier. She said the company was still working to determine the cause of the outage that impacted Frontier customers in the Walnut Hill (327) and Molino (587) exchanges.

Schifano said Frontier customers still experiencing issues with toll calling and high-speed internet services should contact Frontier at 1-877-462-8188 to request further assistance.

During the outage, many Frontier customers were unable to reach 911, according to Sonya Daniel, public information manager for Escambia County. As a precaution, a volunteer staffed the Walnut Hill Fire Station for any walk-up emergencies during the outage. The Molino Fire Station already has a paid crew in the station during the weekdays.

According to Frontier, customers in Walnut Hill, Davisville and Bratt were unable to call 911 from their landline phone. The company said that Walnut Hill area customers experienced no other problems. Frontier said customers in Molino were able to call 911, but calling outside of Molino and high speed internet were out.

NorthEscambia.com confirmed that Frontier landline customers in Walnut Hill  were  also unable to call outside the Walnut Hill and Atmore areas and were unable to receive calls from outside the local area.

I don’t know what the issue was— why the phones went out Tues am along with the Internet and didn’t come back on till today? I have a 587 exchange and the phones were fixed about 11 am today and the internet didn’t come back till approx 3:30 or so. My neighbors and family…total of about 10 homes all called and reported this issue to Frontier but we all recieved different responses! They gave excuses from, they didn’t know there was an issue, to giving some of us job order numbers and telling us to call back in 24 hrs if it wasn’t fixed, but never did anyone tell us that they were having an issue and they were aware of it.
Maybe I am strange, but if my customers where going to be without phone and internet for over 24hrs I would at least have my customer service reps set up with a actual reason why along with an estimated time of the problem being solved. If I could switch to another provider I would. This is not the first time this has happened and it’s not unusual for internet to go out for an hour or two a few times a week.
Like I said, don’t know what the issue was exactly, but think it could have been handled better by Frontier’s customer service dept. Thank you to whoever was responsible for getting it back on. Many of us work from home and depend on the internet for our income.

When I called to report problems, they told me that “a lot” of people where having the same problem. I could receive calls, but couldn’t call anyone, anywhere. When I tried to call people in the area with my cell phone I got the “all circuits are busy” message. My internet still worked though. Glad I didn’t have an emergency.

The heart doctor’s nurse finally was able to call back. She had been trying all morning!

I was having problems calling people with Frontier, but guess it’s fixed. When I lived in that area, I hated Frontier. They never got one phone bill correct, I was calling monthly to try to fix errors, then finally just moved because unfortunately Frontier was the ONLY phone service in that area!

Glad most people are back up and running.

This is par for the course for Frontier, they stink.

    It’s now working!!!! YEA!!!

My “All circuits are busy,” of yesterday, has now become, silence, busy signal. And then, just silence. Guess I will do without what I called the doctor for. Not good, and my peak cell phone minutes are over by about $8. Why do they not know when there is a wide spread problem like this? Bet they start losing customers if this keeps up.

Frontier needs to get a hand on the issue, they state they didnt know about the outage but yet I know at least a hand full of people that has reported it. You wont be able to call the 471-6300 either, 587 numbers can only call and recieve calls from 587 number, and the same with 327 numbers.

  13. yeah right!!! on March 23rd, 2011 11:09 am

Yeah we called last night about internet service. They never seem to be aware of any widespread neighborhood problems.

My DSL went out a little before 2:00 p.m. yesterday. I work from home a lot and need the internet, so I called Frontier at 2:30. At that time, I know my phone service was still working because I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with tech support. I was told that it was a problem with my modem and someone would be out today between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. At some point later in the evening I realized the phone service was out as well, so I called again. The customer service rep told me that there was an outage in Molino, FL and she said it is affecting DSL service as well. I asked her at that time if she had any idea what the problem was and if there was any estimated time of repair. She did not have access to any updates (and she was in California!). Not sure what’s going on with Frontier, but I’ve had several internet outages recently. Maybe time to explore other options???

I don’t have Frontier, but that’s kind of scary that people can’t call 911! I mean, giving them another number to call doesn’t help a whole lot, what if something SERIOUS is going on? you don’t always have time to call 50 different people for help.

  17. Molino Resident on March 23rd, 2011 10:31 am

I just hung up from reporting an outage to Frontier. The representative repeatedly stated he did not know of a widespread outage but he would report my problem. Now that’s customer service!

when I called Frontier 15 minutes ago, they had no knowledge of any “neighborhood” outages.

  19. Kathleen Wilks on March 23rd, 2011 10:19 am

The services in Molino failed long before late yesterday, I phoned in about 3:00PM because you could not call out or receive calls.
