Three Facing Murder Charges For 2010 Hit And Run Death Of Billy Beck III

Three people stand accused of murder for the 2010 hit and run death of a 23-year old on Chemstrand Road.
Phillip Michael Chevalier, 20, of Cantonment; Rebecca Maryellen Austin, 20, of Pensacola; and Brandon Charles Bell, 17, of Pensacola are all accused of felony murder for the death of Billy G. Beck III. The Florida Highway Patrol said Chevalier was the driver of the 1998 GMC truck that struck Beck, while Austin and Bell were passengers.
Beck, 23, was walking on Chemstrand Road May 6, 2010 when he was struck by at least three vehicles. The driver of the first vehicle to strike Beck fled the scene. Beck’s family maintained that foul play may have been involved in the crash; however there were few leads or witnesses, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Chevalier, Austin and Bell were developed as suspects; Chevalier fled the area soon after the crash and could not be located, the FHP said. FHP investigators said Austin was also actively avoiding them and could not be located. Bell, according to the FHP, refused to be interviewed.
“The case went cold without other leads and witnesses,” according to a report by FHP Cpl. Brian Davis.
On February 27, Florida Highway Patrol investigators developed additional evidence that led to arrest warrants being issued for Chevalier for felony murder and leaving the scene of accident with death.
Felony murder warrants were also issued for Bell and Austin.
Bell was arrested Friday during a traffic stop by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. He was also charged with possession of cocaine and is being held in the Escambia County Jail. Austin was already in the Santa Rosa County Jail on an unrelated failure to appear charge.
The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in locating Chevalier, who remained at large as of early Saturday morning. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Gulf Coast Crime Stoppers at (850) 436-STOP.
The drivers of the second and third vehicles to strike Beck were not charged.
Correction: This story was updated March 7, 2011. The male passenger in the vehicle was incorrectly identified by the Florida Highway Patrol in a written press release as Brandon Charles Page. His correct name is Brandon Charles Bell.

I went to church with Billy at Cross & Crown Baptist. We were all good friends for years and it hurts that something this terrible happened to him. We love you & miss you Billy !
I have prayed this family and all who loved Billy would finally get some closure on this horrific nightmare that has happened, These People hid this, and ran from the police for nearly a year, after they had taken such a precious person off this earth, and they had NO RIGHT to. They should have been better people than to just leave his body like they did…They really should be ashamed! I guess its saying they were in the truck that killed my brother and then 2 other vehicles ran him over. So if you have brothers or sister please dont fight. Be nice to each other ACT LIKE A FAMILY. Man Up kids and the last one needs to turn himself in and throw himself
on the mercy of the court. If this kid makes us have a trial he should just
fry. Now we have to track him down and watch him plead not guilty
and pay for a trial when he knows he did it and he knows it’s time
to pay. It may have been by acccident, but there have been rumors that
this was a hit. What has happened to our youth?
Billy was a great person with a heart of gold. He will be forever missed and the people responsible for his death deserve to wrought under the jail for taking such a special person from our lives.
i only read the headlines but my heart is breaking…havent even read the story….our children are so very precious…what do we have to do to protect them? how do we even start?

As I understand it, felony murder is when someone loses thier life due to or during the act of a felony. What is the circumstance that makes this felony murder?
Page refused to be interviewed by the FHP???? I think it used to be called questioning of a suspect. Now the FHP has to make an appointment and say pretty please talk to us???? Sad very sad!

What a tragic story. I am very sorry for the victims family, it has to have been a very rough road to live though this… and now the trials will be bringing it all back up.
There certainly are no winners here, I hope that if they are indeed guilty that they will confess not prolong this any longer.
