Septic Tank Inspection Repeal Advances

February 23, 2011

The Senate Health Regulation Committee approved a bill Tuesday that would repeal new septic-tank inspection requirements, despite questions about whether the repeal goes too far.

Committee members voted 8-4 to approve the bill which stemmed from a law passed last year requiring inspections of septic tanks every five years.

Backers of the law said it was necessary to protect springs and other waterways from pollution, but opponents argued it would drive up costs for homeowners.

Lawmakers delayed the start of the inspection program during a November special session. That gave time to address the issue again during this year’s regular session. Questions from panel members on Tuesday centered on whether the the law should be totally repealed, with Sen. Eleanor Sobel, D-Hollywood, calling the bill “extreme.” But Sen. Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, said last year’s law overreached.

The bill next goes to the Senate Environmental Preservation Committee.

Read the article… here I will quote it for you…

“with Sen. Eleanor Sobel, D-Hollywood, calling the bill “extreme.”

Yes, the democrats are saying it is EXTREME to overturn this.

    Read.

    I say…..

Could you get the person who read it to you to help me out as well?

I guess you are tickled to see the Demos line up with the Republicans. The bill was passed by a legislature dominated by Republicans and now you find a Democrat who wants to see if the legislation can be modified rather than repealing the whole thing. You use that to buttress your case that this is “typical” behavior. Typical? How? Is it typical behavior for the Republicans to totally repeal legislation they recently passed?

By your “logic” it is. You quote a single individual and call that “the Democrats”. You may get your reader to note the difference between singular and plural. (chuckle) Why did this bill pass to begin with?

GEEZE, we can’t even afford to buy expensive fruits and vegtables at our local grocery store and lets not forget to mention the daily increase of gasoline that is getting way out of hand.

I cant even comprehend how in the world I would even begin to come up with $500 on up for someone to come out and tell me there is nothing wrong with your septic tank and it really doesn’t need pumping out, BUT your required by law now to have it done, so oh well, just get over it and pay up sucker.

*SAY NO TO MANDATORY SEPTIC TANK INSPECTIONS*

Our petition has been heard, now continue to contact your representatives and ask them to repeal this! The people CAN have a voice if it is loud enough!!

Name (required)… You haven’t been paying attention. This bill was passed by Republicans.

It’s sad to see the number of people who are complaining about Democrats when Republicans have been running the show in Florida for more than a decade.

xpeecee..Time to start voting some of these Florida Republicans out of office,eh?

  6. Ifish4 on February 23rd, 2011 5:31 pm

Yes Name (required), surely this is the democrats fault. Republicans have only had total control of FL government for a little over 10 years. Surely this is the reason FL is in such great financial shape!

I doubt he was paying attention or hadn’t given it much thought.

If Don Gaetz really believes the septic tank law “overreached”, then why did he vote for it originally?

    “ditto on what xpeecee wrote”

The message from the people is clear:
    * We don’t want socialism
    * We dont want more government
    * We don’t want more taxes (as in septic tank inspections)
    * We don’t want illegal aliens getting a free ride
    * We don’t want more gun control
    * We don’t want to depart from the Christian principals that our country was founded upon
For those who didn’t get the message – – – we will vote you out of office!!!

the real pollution to our springs and waterways are the large factories allowed to send their run off there, and the run off from our roads naturally when it rains, if we are required to inspect septic tanks, the state should be required to pay it, it puts too hard a financial burden on homeowners, if something goes wrong with my septic tank, i will fix it, i don’t need an inspection every 5 years to tell me what to do!

  12. Name (required) on February 23rd, 2011 6:28 am

I am glad this burden is being overturned. The idea that the democrats see it as ‘extreme’ to do so is pretty typical….

    sadly typical.
