Nursing Home Gas Leak Sends One To The Hospital

February 27, 2011

A gas leak Sunday morning at Century Care Center sent at least one person to an area hospital.

The leak was reported about 7 a.m. in the kitchen area at the Century nursing home. At least one employee was transported to Jay Hospital for evaluation and another person was reported to be nauseated by the gas smell.

The leak was secured by the Town of Century Gas Department with no further injuries to staff or residents.

The Century Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and Escambia County EMS responded to the leak.

    REGARDING:
“Does this leak have anything to do with the one previously reported in the town of Century?”

    No, too far away.

An interesting thing is that natural gas is odorless. They have to add what nauseated the others so people would know when there was a leak. Undetected natural gas leaks kill through replacing the oxygen or actually, the air itself and through explosions. Levels need never get high due to the yucky smell of the additive, folks get out and/or fix the leaks first.

    David for perfect plumbing
    and healthy people

I hear nothing but good about this place and if ever I should have to make a decision about my parents, I would choose this place hands down.

Don’t blow this incident into a major issue. It sounds like the staff dealt with the issue correctly.
