Drivers Slams Into Stone Wall In Highway 97 Crash (With Photo Gallery)
February 5, 2011
A Pensacola woman came within inches of being seriously injured in crash Saturday morning in Dogwood Park.
Jung Cha Aglutay, 65, was southbound on Highway 97 near White Ash Road when she failed to negotiate a curve about 6:40 a.m., went airborne across a ditch and slammed into wooden gate, wood fence and a stone wall, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Two boards from the fence penetrated the windshield, just inches from the steering wheel (see photo below).
Neighbors that heard the crash said they found the Agultay standing out of the vehicle when they arrived to investigate the noise.
Aglutay was transported by Escambia County EMS to West Florida Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She was cited for careless driving by the FHP.
The Molino Station of Escambia Fire Rescue also responded to the crash.

hard to have an old wreck
What in tarnation is the matter with drivers around these here parts?
Every day seems to bring a new wreck!
REGARDING:
” Driving requires a physical skill set, and just as not everyone is suited to playing football or bowling or shooting hoops, not everyone is suited to driving”
I agree not everyone is suited to driving and some are physically unsuited to driving. However, I think most of the driving requirement is mental–the intention to pay attention. It takes a while to realize that even though you can do more than one thing at a time, if one of those things is drive, not giving driving your full attention can be expensive, messy and painful.
David with experience
glad lady lived to learn from this one
never too late until it’s over
Additionally…don’t those handicap placards have a notation at the bottom to remove before driving because they obscure the view?
@Mary – if you pay attention, you’ll see that the great majority of accidents reported here as resulting from “loss of control” involved drivers under the age of 26. Driving requires a physical skill set, and just as not everyone is suited to playing football or bowling or shooting hoops, not everyone is suited to driving. It’s a good thing that you recognized that in yourself and voluntarily took yourself off the road.
@GirlnGreen – That’s not a sports car, and people become “grannies” through the action of their children. BTW, I’m a grandfather, drive a high-performance sports coupe, and would pit my 43 years of driving experience against your childish assumptiveness any day.
I am also glad that the driver is ok. But I also feel bad because it was a nice fence. I watched it being built, It took a long time and I know that it cost alot of money. It was a really nice job.
One day, you will all realize that 65 don’t seem so old.
I watched that man work very hard on building that wall and he did nice work a couple months back.
improved the look of the area. Dogwood park is nice other than the yard with a small pond and trash all over the yard
wonder why this woman was incapable of driving a car down a nicely paved road?
glad she is OK but she is dangerous behind a wheel. time she stoped driving
you know that god and her angel was by her side……….all u people that make remarks abuot her age, deer, or texting or what ever should be ashamed…..They call this an accentdent come on people get a life
Mary, your 47 and won’t drive anymore because of your age? Are you kidding?
You must be blessed with not having to work and having plenty of younger people around to support you and run all of your errands for you.
Plenty of people 65 are still working and driving. I can’t imagine her age was even a issue. How many times do we see young people in a wreck? Wrecks happen to everyone.
UNREAL!!!
WOW..great pictures….does not leave much to imagine does it…..if there were a passenger with her it would be close also….she was lucky…no doubt an angel was around somewhere…not her time to go huh….must a fell asleep you think…lost focus maybe….a deer ran out in her path…any other guesses out there…wonder what FAILED TO NEGOTIATE means ( other than the obvious )
If you have good health and good state of mind, there is nothing wrong with an older person driving. I am sixty eight and I am healthy and have a sound mind and I can drive as well as anyone can. It’s theses people that don’t care we have to watch out for. I am glad the lady is okay..
@Mary, my dad was 97 years old when he passed away and was still in his right mind and body. He was very capable of getting behind the wheel of any car and I would have pitted him against any 25-50 year old driver anytime. Just because a person has reached a certain age in no reason at all to take take away their driving privileges or make them take any special tests that anyone else does not take.
i notice that there is a handicapped placard on her rearview mirror- hmmm..related?…nonetheless, what a miracle!
I”m a Grannie and I take being behind the sterring wheel serious and just because you are 65 does not mean that you are too old to drive.
WOW!!! Could have been much worse. By the way, to “Mary”, I have seen MANY more wrecks and crashes from younger people ranging from 25-45. Age has NOTHING to do with it, especially 65! Seriously!!!!!!!!!
god was watching you mamm…glad to hear she’s ok!
UNREAL!!! I’m glad she is OK! I’ve seen a lot of elderly people getting into accidents in the past year or so….they need to make special driving tests for people over a certain age. I’m 47..I wont drive anymore!!!
She had to have been distracted…”texting” or on her cell phone perhaps?
OMG!! It’s only by the GRACE of GOD that she’s still alive.
Grannies in sports cars tisk tisk tisk! On a serious note! Glad shes ok.
