Century Woman Busted After Running Stop Sign In Stolen Car
February 4, 2011
Running a stop sign landed a 57-year old Century woman in jail when deputies discovered was driving a stolen car.
About 12:30 Thursday morning, a deputy watched as a white Mazda Protege failed to stop at a stop sign located at Sellers Road and West Highway 4. He conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found that it had previously been reported stolen and that the driver, Iretha Mae Smith, had an outstanding grand theft auto warrant.
When the deputy asked Smith to step out of the vehicle, she reportedly got out with a white pill in her hand. The pill, according to the Sheriff’s Office, turned out to be a Lortab for which Smith did not have a prescription.
Smith was charged with grand theft auto, felony possession of a controlled substance and issued a citation for failure to stop at a stop sign. She was booked into the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $3,000.

at 57 years old this lady should be enjoying life, her kids, watching her grandkids grow up, life is short lady, get it together !!!!!!!
Don, I’m glad you and your family have found eutopia!!!!
@George, please you not in the minority of people who work hard and pay taxes in Century. Yes Century have people with problems just like every small and big city but overall its still a community with a lot of hardworking people. Ive lived in a lot of places and I feel very safe here.
@Don, for real, Pensacola, do you watch the news at all because Pensacola isnt exactly a crime free city.
Wow! Even Uncle Ronny never stole a car (or a few cars), and she topped it off by having illegal prescription drugs. Ms. Iretha off the chain!!!
then I wouldn’t have to worry about following traffic laws?
That is why my family moved us to pcola thank you mom and dad….
Note to David: don’t steal vehicles
I wonder if she had proof of insurance? And was she wearing her seatbelt?
There is a certain part of this story you really have to admire.
jerry, i live in century. i do feel like i am in a growing minority. i pay taxes, work, and i’m not medicated.
For the record, I would love to live in Century.
Quiet little place with generous people and a small town ambiance.
The people who make the news are an exception to a much larger group of much more lovely minded people.
Writers of some of these comments seem to be profiling everyone who lives in Century. There are many honest, hard working, productive people who call Century home and should not be clumped in with the “Century….what else can I say?” crowd.
Shay and George –
Do you not have these kinds of things happen in your place of paradise? What a dumb and disparaging remark, Shay. Are you as narrow-minded and and prejudicial as that sentence says you are?
i’m with you shay.
Readers, have you noticed that so many of the crimes commited today are over 50? They should be enjoying their Grandchildren and not out doing crimes.
note to self: obey traffic laws when driving stolen vehicles
Commit a crime – be prepared to do the time.
uh-oh
Century…what else can I say?
