Brush Fire Closes Ala. Highway (With Updated Photos)
February 27, 2011
A large brush fire forced the closure of Highway 31 between Flomaton and Canoe is Escambia County, Alabama, Sunday afternoon.
The fire was reported about 4 p.m. on McMurphy Lane, which runs north of Old Atmore Road near Highway 31. A strong wind pushed the fire across the CSX railroad tracks in the area and across Highway 31. Heavy smoke was reported to have lower visibility to zero along Highway 31, prompting the closure of the roadway about 4:25 p.m.
Highway 31 reopened about 5:30 p.m., and the fire was mostly contained by 6 p.m.

This is why I wish people wouldn’t complain when landowners and forestry do prescribed burns. When land is allowed to get overgrown with brush (like much of the area west of Flomaton) it’s a disaster waiting to happen, especially during a dry hot summer.
With all the fires lately it seems people need “how to” lessons..
Has CSX check the tracks for damaged cross ties?
Thanks to all of the firemen who helped fight the fire today! Ya’ll did a great job! WE LOVE OUR FIRE FIGHTERS!!!!!
The Fire Is Not out. They have decided to let it burn out. They put a line arround it with the bulldozier. This is a standard procedure to do when the Fire is not close to any one’s home. The fire has some hot spots and will be put completly out Monday when it rains.
