Former Century Council Member Passes Away

February 25, 2011

Former Century Town Council member Sharon Scott was found dead in her home last night.

Scott’s husband returned to their home about 9:45 Thursday night in the 200 block of West Highway to find his wife deceased. Scott’s death was natural and no foul play was suspected, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Scott did not seek re-election to her District 5 seat on the Century Town Council last year.

“I love Century and everything about Century,” she said when she announced she would not seek re-election, “but it was just not for me to run again.”

“I want to thank everybody for the encouraging words,” Scott said at her final council meeting in December, as she shared a story about her son who is in the military that is quick to tell everyone that he meets that he is from Century, Florida. “It’s Century pride,” she said. “We are not from Pensacola; we are from Century, Florida.”

“I go to sleep at night, so I must have done something right…even Jesus Christ could not please everybody,” she added.

Funeral arrangements for Sharon Scott have not yet been announced.

    Courtney,
Not sure if you remember me; however I just wanted to say I was sorry for the loss of your mother. It had been a while since I had seen her but I do remember how much I enjoyed talking with her when I could. I always made sure to ask how you and your daughter were doing.

My prayers are with you and your whole family during this difficult time.

    God Bless!!

To the Scott Family, I offer my condolences to your family for the loss of Sharon. Sharon was a wonderful person who I deeply loved and enjoyed being around. When I was in high school at Flomaton High School and Sharon attended Century High School we always kept in touch and shared things about our school, friends and families. I remember when I got saved I shared my testimony with Sharon and she encouraged me to continue to servie the Lord and it will pay off after a while. And God has let me live to understand what Sharon was talking about. May God comfort your family during such a trying time. Remember earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. RIP Sharon you could not be in better hands than the Lord!

I prayers goes out to Courtney,Tray,Philip, and Mr.Charles. Mrs.Sharon will be dearly missed by the community. Her death was a shock too all. Whenever I did see her, she always had a smile on her face. Whether she was driving down the road in the truck or I saw her in the grocery store. She always kept a smile on her face. And now she is smiling down on all of you being your Guardian Angel. It will be different now, not being able to see her drive down the road. But God knew what was best for her.

keeping all of you in prayer,
    Whittney Smiley

We had the opportunity to talk with Sharon while she was in Ohio. In fact, she pulled up a chair and sat and talked with me for about 30 minutes. As always, her conversation was about her husband and children. Be encouraged by her legacy. She was most proud of being a loving wife and mother. We will always remember her for her warm, energetic and uplifting personality. Our love and condolences to the Scott family.

We were priviliged to spend time with Sharon in Ohio during the week prior to her death. In fact, we remember saying good-bye to her before leaving for her flight out of Akron International Airport. She shared many memories with us and we will forever cherish each moment spent with her. To her Husband, Children, and all who loved her … we ask that you simply follow her legacy of loving people sincerely, caring about the plight of others, and being genuine in dealing with people. God called home an angel who resided with us for a little while and we thank God for her life.

I really hated to hear about Sharon’s passing. She was a wonderful, involved parent when I taught at Century Elementary School. I remember her also being on the Parent Advirosry Council for Northview High School, when several teachers and community leaders went to Tennessee or North Carolina to look at the high school that Northview was modeled after.
