Earthquake Just Off Coast

February 18, 2011

A 3.5 magnitude earthquake was reported off the coast of Baldwin County Friday evening.

The earthquake, confirmed by the U.S. Geological Survey, was centered less than 10 miles off the coast in the Gulf of Mexico at 5:15 p.m. The quake center was about 35 miles from Mobile, 40 miles from Pensacola, or about 48 miles from Molino.

According to reports to the USGS, the quake was felt not only in nearby locations like Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, but also Mobile, Pensacola and McDavid.

It was at a depth of about 3.1 miles. According to the USGS, a minor earthquake of 3.5 is often felt but rarely causes damage.

No damage was immediately reported from Friday’s quake off Baldwin County.

I don’t think I’ve ever set anybody straight but I try to share what I think and know and what I think I know and what I know I think–or I think I do.

Thank you for setting me straight on that. Might turn out to be quite helpful. ;)

It is a natural result of lack of clarity. If the intent is unclear, we have to guess at what was intended. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes it isn’t.

    Davie Huie Green for Discernment:

Interesting. I did not assume what you may have thought I was assuming until after your initial response. Perhaps I did after that. Shame on me if I did, and please forgive me. I see what you are saying, and do not disagree. Especially, the part about always being ready.

I surely was not referring to myself being the only one whose earth is quaking. I do believe that anyone would quake, when God reveals to them the real meaning of the Word they read/studied for so long. You are not, necessarily, the one that reference in Corinthians was for. Any chance to put out The Word is a blessed opportunity. I used to read things like that, and not have a clue what they meant. I guess I was blind to it. So many seem to think God is the one in error when they do not understand something. That is because He has a plan for how and when they “see.” There is no fault in Him.

I usually like the things you write. I may not always agree with them, but they are thought provoking, and show that, at least some folks still think before spouting. At least most of the time. Keep saying what you really think, no matter who doesn’t agree. I love real.

    REGARDING:
“Thus the earthquakes I was referring to. Not the global ones. – - LOL. Are you “toying” with me, David Huie Green?”

Nope, simply discussing what you were discussing. Now that you’ve divided the discussion into two separate lines of thought/feeling I understand better.

You muddied the water a bit when you brought up verses such as:
    First Corinthians 5:
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

You cleared it up when you explained you were talking about your personal response to the Lord’s revelation of His truth.

I’m often unsure what people mean and wonder if they are either. People hear of a natural disaster and declare it proves the imminent Second Coming, despite the fact that such disasters have happened all along. They read about earthquakes assume those didn’t happen before. They read about wars and assume those didn’t happen before.

They read scriptures saying people will be marrying and giving in marriage and assume something sinister rather than understanding the Lord was saying it would be a day like any other so we should be prepared at all times.

And if anybody questions their interpretation, they assume that other person isn’t as spiritually discerning as themselves.

    David for discernment

    :D

I am not sure about all of the geological facts. I see more of those kinds of earthquakes happening. Perhaps there are many more I don’t know about. I do know that they destroy more now, because there is more to destroy.

I was making another point that seems to be alluding you. I do see what you are saying. But, I was speaking of another kind of earthquake. The one that goes on inside a person. Let me just use myself for an illustration:

When I see God’s Word in The Light of the new and clearer understanding that comes only from God, after spending much time in prayer and in studying and meditating in His Word, I quake within. I am one decended from one that was formed from the earth. Therefore I am, in reality, also formed from the earth. Or should I say, “I am a spirit, living in a body, and everytime I truly “see” a concept in The Word of God, my flesh quakes.” Thus the earthquakes I was referring to. Not the global ones.

LOL. Are you “toying” with me, David Huie Green?

  8. David Huie Green on February 21st, 2011 7:14 am

It sounds like you are saying people should be fearful of the wrath of the Lord for our many sins and that’s the cause of the earhtquake. The problem is you seem to be tying human trembling at the wrath to come with planetary motions and vibrations. You seem to be rejecting the idea that such vibrations and motions have been going on fairly steadily all along and tie them to the increasing sinfulness of humanity, which I just don’t see, not because I don’t see sinful people on the planet but because I don’t see where they weren’t always so if not more so. Further, I remember that the worst city on the planet would have been spared if there had just been ten righteous people living there. America haw way more than ten, maybe even more than a hundred.

    David Huie Green:

I am so sorry if you still do not understand what I am trying to say. I do not know what else to say, except to suggest you ask God what I meant. I can only share what I “see.” I cannot make anyone else see, but God can. Please read Revelation 5:3-5 and 1Corinthians 2:14

I hope I did not cause anyone else confusion. God is not the God of confusion, but of Peace. He will tell you if you really want to know, if you are born again of Him. Being sold out to Him and baptized in The Holy Spirit helps an awful lot also.

“And, if our earth isn’t quaking at the things that are happening in this country, and the world, we must be very ignorant, dead, or at peace with God, and really, really trusting Him. Is that more clear.”

Sorry but it still makes no sense to me to explain an earthquake is caused because the voice of the Lord is spirit. Why would earthquakes depend on our ignorance, deaths or being at peace with God?

As to the things happening in this country, I agree many bad things are happening but suspect it might be like the number of recorded earthquakes going up with the number of seismometers to notice them. It’s being reported more often but not necessarily worse.

Please consider what has happened in the past: Red China killed around 40 million people under Mao. Stalin killed some 20 million. Pol Pot killed around a third of the population of Cambodia and would have killed more if Vietnam hadn’t stopped him. Idi Amin killed hundreds of thousands in Uganda and lived a long happy life even when deposed.

Times are definitely not worse lately than in the past

    TO: David Huie Green:

I think I like you, David. Thank you for that information. It is quite interesting.

“Yes to the first, huh? to the second. Please expound. David confused by dirt suit.”

:D We were formed of the dust (dirt) of the ground. We are spirits who have a soul, and who live in a body (dirt suit). Did you realize that we were living spirits with God, before He breathed us into us? I have just recently “seen/heard” that.

Read the first part of Jeremiah. God knew us, before He formed us. Isn’t that totally awesome! We are of Him. I am so glad He provided a Way to get back to Him when this “dirt suit” dies. And, if our earth isn’t quaking at the things that are happening in this country, and the world, we must be very ignorant, dead, or at peace with God, and really, really trusting Him. Is that more clear. I am sorry when I don’t make things clear. I am trying to work on that. Thank you for letting me know it wasn’t clear.

  14. EMD on February 19th, 2011 1:23 pm

Really: The Word of God is not just any old book. It is the inspired Word of God. One that “sees” and “hears” in our spirit just knows this, when it touches that “place” in our hearts. I believe the whole book. If there is an error, it is in my limited human understanding. That is why Jesus, by The Holy Spirit, has to enlighten us when we read. If I had to pick and choose what parts of The Bible I believe, how would I know if any of it were true, if it were not all true. The problem is that spiritual things are not understood by the carnal mind. One has to be born again of The Spirit, to receive deeper understanding.

Regarding Tony “It is written that no man shall know the hour of the lords coming, I believe it will be soon.”

It is also written in many books that dragons walk among us…but, I don’t believe it. Times change, authors revise and rewrite to accomadate the present. Point is, there are many good books out there (and countless bad ones) but we need not believe everything we read, regardless of how great it is. I find myself lost in books with such wonderful storylines that I wish them to be reality. But at the end of the day, it’s still, just a book.

    REGARDING:
“Earthquakes have increased SINCE they first began to be recorded. “

    According to the USGS:
Are Earthquakes Really on the Increase?
We continue to be asked by many people throughout the world if earthquakes are on the increase. Although it may seem that we are having more earthquakes, earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or greater have remained fairly constant.
A partial explanation may lie in the fact that in the last twenty years, we have definitely had an increase in the number of earthquakes we have been able to locate each year. This is because of the tremendous increase in the number of seismograph stations in the world and the many improvements in global communications. In 1931, there were about 350 stations operating in the world; today, there are more than 8,000 stations and the data now comes in rapidly from these stations by electronic mail, internet and satellite. This increase in the number of stations and the more timely receipt of data has allowed us and other seismological centers to locate earthquakes more rapidly and to locate many small earthquakes which were undetected in earlier years. The NEIC now locates about 20,000 earthquakes each year or approximately 50 per day. Also, because of the improvements in communications and the increased interest in the environment and natural disasters, the public now learns about more earthquakes.
According to long-term records (since about 1900), we expect about 17 major earthquakes (7.0 – 7.9) and one great earthquake (8.0 or above) in any given year.

“And, have you ever considered that God said that His Words are Spirit? And, in Light of that, that the earth quaking might be this “dirt suit” in which we dwell?”

Yes to the first, huh? to the second. Please expound.

    REGARDING:
“I wonder what happens when you release a huge amount of oil underneath the surface of the earth. Would it leave a huge void which might cause an earthquake?”

No, it would not leave a huge void.

Sometimes there is slight motion, a subsidence. The oil exists in the spaces between grains of sand or the openings within limestone.

To envision it, take a bucket of dry sand.
Fill it to the top with sand.
    Now pour water in.
You will find you can pour nearly a third of a bucket of water into the bucket already full of sand.
Poke a hole in the bottom of your bucket (if you want to be wasteful.
Watch all the water drain out but the bucket still remain full.

That’s similar to what happens when oil is removed from oil bearing formations.

For further support, consider how much has been removed from Jay and try to remember any earthquakes in Jay.

If you’re still thinking along those lines, please remember this is not the location of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, although there may be oil production near there for all I know.

  31. David Huie Green on February 18th, 2011 9:17 pm

Earthquakes are common around salt domes (small ones). I don’t know their normal strength. I wonder if that might be part of what happened here.

There have always been earthquakes in diverse places, quite often nobody was around to notice them or record them. They were often too small to notice until we got good seismometers. Everything described as happening around the end times were common things such that people could understand it could happen at any time, theologically speaking.
