2010 Hit And Run Lands Century Man Behind Bars

February 15, 2011

A Century man is now jailed on several traffic charges in connection with a hit and run crash near the Century Piggly Wiggly last year.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Steven Allen Lashley, 53, was westbound on Ivey Street at Highway 29 in a 1995 pickup truck when he turned into the path of a 2006 Chevrolet carĀ  that was eastbound on State Line Road onto Highway 29. The driver of the Chevrolet, Kelly R. Morgan, 17, of Century, was not injured in the August 21, 2010, crash.

Lashley fled the scene, headed west on State Line Road.

Lashley was arrested early Monday morning on outstanding warrants related to the crash. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $17,000 on charges of leaving the scene of an accident, no valid driver’s license, driving with a suspended license, expired driver’s license and using an out-of-state driver’s license while suspended in Florida.

53 years old???? It doesn’t matter how “wonderful” and “good” this man is, with the charges against him, and repeated offenses, he does not need to be behind anything but jail bars – certainly not a steering wheel. That teen could have been or may be in the future YOUR child.

Look people this was a bone headed mistake by Steve and he will do his time and maybe he will learn from this. It could have been handled better and if you know Steve, his judgement has never been the best in the world but he is a good person at heart. Sometimes it just takes people a long time to grow up and take ownership of things around them and do the right thing. If Steve need to go to work he should have taken a different step to get to work “get someone to come get him” but he did not so now he pays the price and good for it. If you people will remember one of the wrecks right their a kid was killed so anyone thinking this was not that bad because she was not hurt, just ask MR & MS Hammond about this subject!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So think before you act and if you use bad judgement you pay for it.

My comment is no one should judge another by the mistakes they make. Granted what he is accused of could have been worse. But putting this hard working man behind bars for any length of time is not the answer. There are people here in Escambia County who do far worse. In closing I would say to those that have a dirty back yard…you need to clean your own yard before you step in another’s yard. No one is perfect. We are all children of God. We are a work in progress. He should be punished but jail is not the answer. Maybe a little community work and seek counseling if necessary. My advice to Steve is do not drive anymore or you could go to prison. I have read that you are a hard worker and family man. Hold your head tall and do not give up my friend. By the way I have never met this man. I am only making a comment. Thank you, Dave

Just another nice guy who made a mistake RIGHT.
Good thing this wasn’t your kid he hit and ran out on.
Good thing this wasn’t your insurance that will have to pay from
your uninsured motorist coverage,( if this girls family in this bad
economy had it and didn’t have to drop it).
Good thing you have time to get on here and run your mouth
about this law breaker and what a great roll model he for your
kids and grand kids, BECAUSE I DON’T THINK SO AND I DON’T
    WANT HIM FOR MINE.
