    REGARDING:
“Stay in the correct part of the median when stopped there , if you are on the northbound side of 29 and wish to go accross or south , your position in the median crossing area is too the NORTH side of the area. South bound side position is in the south bound area of the median.”

    That still doesn’t sound right.

David thinking you should be on the south side until it clears when northbound and turning west, north soid when southbound and turning east

LOL I thought I had gone nuts. Glad too to see that some of you know how
to turn at the center mediums.

    REGARDING:
“They also need to learn to hide and stay there and have
back up on down the road to pull them over and write the tickets so people
    don’t realize what happened”

Hiding is effective for arresting violators, being in plain sight is effective in reducing violations in the first place.

    AND
“I said SON, drive with caution and act as everyone around you, behind you, and coming at you is drunk or on drugs!”

    Wise teaching. Congratulations.

    AND
“if you even THINK you know squat and weren’t there then SHUT UP. God you people are so annoying with stuff like that just be glad nobody was seriously injured or killed or that it wasn’t anybody you know and do the people who were in it a courtesy and quit actin like y’all know everything. I saw the darn thing and it didn’t happen in the median at all”

If you aren’t careful, you’ll hurt somebody’s feelings talking like that.

From what I can see, they were discussing causes for problems, not saying they were the cause for this one. In fact, I’m confused by what they wrote, but that’s just because I tend to be confused. No reason to be mean about it, though. You really don’t have to read what they write if you don’t want to.

    David for polite discussion
    while pondering solutions
    to pressing problems
in hopes of avoiding future injuries and deaths

People are still driving like idiots and way too fast.
The police need to come out and do radar over and over till people get it or
lose their license. They also need to learn to hide and stay there and have
back up on down the road to pull them over and write the tickets so people
    don’t realize what happened.
I saw radar the other morning and it was in plain sight at Frans.
Now how is that going to do any good. The first car over the hill calls every
relative in town and they call….well you get the idea.
If he was just slowing them down again, Thanks for 1/2 hour of safety while they drive only by Frans. BIG DEAL!
We need them off the road. It is the same repeat offenders every morning who
tailgate pushing everyone else around, and who pass on double lines like
the idiots we all know they are doing 100 miles an hour.
I have been passed this month alone right in the school zone while the
yellow light was on at least 4 times..
No wonder nobody wants government up here they don’t give a fig if
they kill kids or rape them up here. Where are all of your values?
You need to get serious about speeders I don’t understand what is the problem,
are they your relatives or something?

All this time I thought I was the only person who knew and attempted to follow the correct rules for median use. It’s so nice to know that there actually others out there.
If you think about it, it is actually common sense because if you are on the correct side of the road, you will be able to clearly see oncoming traffic. If you are in the wrong lane, you can’t see the traffic because the other vehicle is blocking your view.
Many of the accidents that occur in medians are because of this rule not being followed.
I wish that more people would actually READ the traffic laws and then remember and follow them. How do so many people have driver’s licenses when so few seem to understand the rules of the road?

I wad in a wreck there in october. People drive like nuts there. I was hit by a lady doing over 50 when she was coming out of tom thumb. She was going north on 29 across the median. It is a daily intersection for me and my family. Need something to slow poeple down in that area.

  7. EMD on January 24th, 2011 3:34 pm

I am so glad that some know the mediun rule, and posted it, whether or not that had anything to do with this accident, because I thought the rule must have been changed. I RARELY see ANYONE do it correctly. And, the offender often gets mad at the on doing it properly.

Somebody needs a little Jesus up in em !

  9. leonheart32577 on January 24th, 2011 2:48 pm

None of y’all were there or saw it so y’all need to freakin quit running your mouths. If you were just curious fine but if you even THINK you know squat and weren’t there then SHUT UP. God you people are so annoying with stuff like that just be glad nobody was seriously injured or killed or that it wasn’t anybody you know and do the people who were in it a courtesy and quit actin like y’all know everything. I saw the darn thing and it didn’t happen in the median at all.

  10. FL Girl on January 24th, 2011 1:48 pm

Thank you, PolythenePam, for explaining the rules of medians. It seems to me that the majority of people do not pull into the RIGHT hand side of the median, like the rule states. I have pulled to the right of the median and actually had people scream at me for being on the wrong side…duh! Read the driving handbook in any state…it will tell you to be on the right side of a median. Thanks for letting me vent! lol

  11. my2cents on January 24th, 2011 12:32 pm

NO TRAFFIC LIGHT!!! Pay attention at the intersection. We all know the people using are dangerous, so it is not the intersection!

  12. PolythenePam on January 24th, 2011 11:18 am

Obey the rules and use some curtesy. Turn on your head lights when visibility is poor. DIM your lights at on-coming traffic. Stay in the correct part of the median when stopped there , if you are on the northbound side of 29 and wish to go accross or south , your position in the median crossing area is too the NORTH side of the area. South bound side position is in the south bound area of the median. The same as if you were turning a cornner on a street, you don’t go in the other guys lane.
I have seen way too many people ignore this rule. I have actually watched a young girl come from the Reynalds in Cantonment to turn north and a man from the old post office to turn south there, run slam into each other , she was where she was supposed to be in the median he tried to be there too . Not funny . Learn how to drive, you aren’t the only one out there, other people follow the rules when you don’t you screw up a great system.
Yes this issue is one of my daily annoyances.

Hope all involved in this wreck are ok. I want to commend William on getting this on the site so quickly. I passed by it at 9:25 and when I turned the site on at 10:00 it was already posted. This intersection is really a bad one and something needs to be done. WHAT? I don’t know ! Paying attention to the road and cars moving in all directions would go a long way in solving the problem. Is this going to happen? NOT LIKELY!

  14. EMD on January 24th, 2011 9:30 am

NO another traffic light is NOT needed!!!

To your question: Because the “simpletons” would have to STOP!

  15. punish the masses on January 24th, 2011 8:27 am

NO another traffic light is NOT needed!!!

Why do some of you insist on trying to punish the majority who navigate these intersections safely everyday just because a few simpletons can’t properly operate their vehicles.

  16. N.E. Resident on January 24th, 2011 7:58 am

It would be a great place for a traffic light!
Many times it is really hard to get out there; especially if you need to go all the way across or go north. There has been too many wrecks & deaths there…a light would really make a big difference!!!

  17. You Who on January 24th, 2011 7:47 am

They say it’s the worst intersection there is but I don’t know why. Visability is good all around, no trees or shrubs or anything like you would find in town. I just don’t get it, maybe cell phone, in a hurry or something like that. Just amazes me

  18. Angi B. on January 24th, 2011 7:04 am

This is the worst intersection I swear, just about every day someone is having an accident there. Something seriously needs to be done… People really need to start paying more attention to their driving and the others around them, there are way to many lives being lost… It seems that everyone is always in a rush, if you have to be somewhere at a certain time; trying leaving earlier so that you have plenty enough time to make it to your destination.

  19. Anonymous on January 24th, 2011 6:33 am

I agree Molino Mom, people simply don’t understand the rules of the median. That and entering into the Tom Thumb from the Hwy 29 entrance messess up traffic. People are trying to judge where your going and not waiting to see.

  20. nf on January 24th, 2011 6:18 am

People need to SLOW DOWN and pay attention at that intersection. I have seen several wrecks there over the years and most could have been avoided.

  21. T on January 24th, 2011 6:12 am

Something I told my son when he was learning to drive in this crazy mad world:

I said SON, drive with caution and act as everyone around you, behind you, and coming at you is drunk or on drugs!

  22. WORRIED RESIDENT on January 24th, 2011 12:03 am

My prayers go out to all of the people involved, and their families.

  23. Molino Mom on January 23rd, 2011 11:41 pm

It is not the “stupid thumb” it is drivers that cause accidents. People do not know the rules of the mediam and how to use it.

  24. Lynn on January 23rd, 2011 10:34 pm

Those of us that live down Crabtree Church Rd. don’t really want ANYTHING there! Traffic is bad enough just with the stupid Thumb!!!

  25. p on January 23rd, 2011 10:33 pm

And another one. One off my friends ex wife was killed on 29 around there. Fhp should set up there

  26. Dave on January 23rd, 2011 9:58 pm

Instead of building a truck stop behind Tom Thumb, maybe move the Molino fire station there.
