Sheriff’s Dept. Investigates After Bone Found Under School’s Auburn Sign
January 14, 2011
An Escambia County Sheriff’s Office crime scene unit was called to Ernest Ward Middle School Friday afternoon after a bone was discovered under the schools’ “Auburn Tigers #1 War Eagle” sign.
The sign was created earlier in the week using cups on the chain link fence in front of the school’s campus in Walnut Hill to celebrate Auburn’s national championship win over the Oregon Ducks. On Friday, school employees found the large bone under the sign.
Following protocol, the bone was given to the school’s resource officer, who in turn turned to the bone over to a crime scene investigator from the Sheriff’s Office. The large bone was not believed to be human.
Sources tell NorthEscambia.com that preliminary information did not rule out the bone being from a duck from Oregon.

if another bone is found it probaly a bone were a florida gator was craking on an auburn tiger skull
Mrs. Perry is an Auburn fan and has been since she taught me at Ernest Ward and Northview!!!!!!!!!!!!
William posted and said there were no cups on the fence but there were Roll Tide signs. Different fans came up with a different idea.
Weren’t there cups placed in the fence last year after BAMA won the NC? RTR!
When did our local schools start supporting certain colleges. I remember last year when ALABAMA won there was no sign to support them. I realize that this was a once in a lifetime event that will never happen again, but if you do it for one you should do it for all. Next year when Bama wins it again someone needs to place cups for them on the fence also.ROOOOL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well, glad to hear it’s real news, the last line threw me off on the whole thing
William you are great..the school has to do what is required even though the know it is 95+% deer…but you report the facts and Of course that was an “Oregon Duck” bone as we know it was way too small to be an elephant bone.LOL. War Eagle. Thank you to Mrs. Perry and her staff for once again keep our children safe!!
WAR EAGLE PPLZ!!!!!!
Thanks William for a good chuckle with that ending quote. Humor in news is sometimes a welcome relief from all the bad news. Glad the bone is not thought to be of human origin though.
>>>here i was thinking this was something serious, and then it turned out to be some crazy football gag….not cool
No, you are VERY wrong. Everything in the article is 100% true. Deputies, crime scene investigator, bone, crime lab’s going to check it out — everything was VERY real and happened just as it says.
The last line is also true because it was said by several people in an official capacity. But we can assume the comment was a quip.
this is ridiculous! i mean, did they really find a bone and called the police? or is this whole article a joke?! aren’t you supposed to report the news! here i was thinking this was something serious, and then it turned out to be some crazy football gag….not cool
The bone in question is only a bone from a dying breed of Bamaduck fans. It happens every year AUBURN beats them…. WAR EAGLE BABY
Sooo funny!!
YEP..Deer leg..its that time of year..my dawgs bring them home all the time.
>>just a question, was roll tide up there last year?
They did not do the cups in the fence last year, but there were Roll Tide signs out last year. Equal opportunity, I guess.
just a question, was roll tide up there last year?
Deer leg.

Might be from a Warchicken… Sorry, couldnt resist. Congrats to all the Auburn fans and keep on Rolling SEC…
