obviously you haven’t had the problems that I had with Atmore school system. The fact that my children come home crying everyday because of different crap they have to deal with. But anyway I understand the comment about how everyone down here freaks out over little stuff. I have friends and family from up north and some live down here now and they agree that people down here do not know how to drive on icey roads. Also a friend, who drives in some of the worst weather every week, just told me that on the way home from Molino to Atmore the roads were very icey and having standing frozen puddles and that buses should not be on the roads. And like I said he drives in worst conditions every week, but knows how most people down here don’t know how to handle a car much less a bus in these conditions.

We also don’t ride dinosaurs to school.

  3. MOM OF 4 CHILDREN IN ATMORE on January 9th, 2011 11:44 pm

I JUST WANT TO ADD THAT THE ATMORE SCHOOL OFFICIALS DO CARE ABOUT THE ATMORE STUDENTS THANK YOU VERY MUCH !

WE WENT TO SCHOOL WITH 3 FEET SNOW ON THE GROUND GROWING UP AND HERE YOU GET A LITTLE ICE AND FLURRIES AND PEOPLE ACT LIKE YOU CANT GO OUT OF YOUR HOUSE. LORD HAVE MERCY ! SEND THOSE KIDS TO SCHOOL ! IF ITS NOT SAFE THEN THEY WONT HAVE SCHOOL FOR HEAVENS SAKE OTHERWISE IT MUST BE PRETTY SAFE AND THEY WILL HAVE SCHOOL TOMMOROW. EITHER WAY JUST WAIT AND SEE AND ITS YOUR KIDS, IF YOU DONT WANT THEM TO GO KEEP THEM HOME ! I AGREE WITH HAVE A LITTLE FAITH !

  5. HAVE A LITTLE FAITH on January 9th, 2011 11:38 pm

I AM THE MOTHER OF 2 TEENAGE DRIVERS THANK YOU ! I ALSO TRUST OUR SCHOOL BOARD WILL MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS, I TRUST THAT IF THEY THINK SCHOOLS SHOULD BE CLOSED THEN THEY FOR SURELY WILL BE HOWEVER IF THEY THINK ITS JUST ANOTHER RAINY COLD DAY FOR US THEN MORE THAN LIKELY WILL BE OPEN AS SHOULD BE ! IF YOU DONT WANT YOUR KIDS TO GO TO SCHOOL AND FEAR FOR THEIR SAFETY THEN KEEP THEM HOME ANYWAY ! HOWEVER, I TRUST THAT THE LORD WILL TAKE CARE OF OUR KIDS AND I DO BELIEVE OUR BOARD OF EDUCATION AND WHOMEVER ELSE MAKES THESE DECISIONS HAVE ENOUGH SENSE TO KNOW WHAT TO DO SO SENSE WE ARE SCHEDULED TO HAVE CLASSES TOMMOROW AS OF NOW I WOULD GUESS THAT MEANS RIGHT NOW THE OFFICIALS THINK IT IS OK FOR SCHOOL TO RESUME AS NORMALLY SCHEDULED ! I KNOW OUR OFFICIALS FOR THIS AREA WOULD NEVER DO ANYTHING TO JEAPORDIZE THE LIVES OF OUR KIDS SO IF THEY HAVE SCHOOL TOMMOROW IT WOULD OBVIOUSLY MEAN THAT THE OFFICIALS THAT MAKE THIS DECISION FEEL IT IS A SAFE ONE ! SO NOW THAT WE KNOW NOTHING MORE THAN WE KNEW 2 HOURS AGO, WE WILL SEE IF OUR CHILDREN HAVE SCHOOL IN THE MORNING OR NOT ! I AM SURE IF WE HAVE ICY ROADS THEN CERTAINLY THERE WOULD NOT BE SCHOOL ! ITS ALL THE CALL OF THE WEATHER NOW AND THE OFFICIALS, NOMATTER IF THEY HAVE SCHOOL OR NOT WE AS PARENTS HAVE THE RIGHT TO KEEP OUR KIDS HOME IF WE FEEL THEY ARE NOT SAFE TO GO FOR WHATEVER REASON SO ITS OUR CALL HOWEVER I HAVE ENOUGH FAITH THAT WHATEVER THE OFFICIALS DECIDE WILL BE THE BEST THING TO DO !

Think about it even if there was no school teens would still be on the roads. Do you honeslty think teens wont be running the roads to hang out with friend, go to the movies or the mall. So either way teens will still ve driving tomorrow so why notjust go to school.

Have A Little Faith. Um the wind chill 2 hours ago was 30 degrees and the temp was 35 by 3 am the temp is going to be 33 so don’t you think the wind chill will be even colder? Especially since by that time the winds are going to be 15 to 20 mph plus gusts up to 25 mph. I’d think a lot will agree with me that the temps could freeze water. And if it was only students on here posting comments then we could assume that they just wanted to get out of school. But there are parents on here and trust me the only time some parents get any alone time is when their kids are at school, but they wouldn’t risk that alone time for their kids safety. And from what I’ve seen from the schools in Alabama they really don’t care about the kids.

Well I don’t know who “have a little faith” is but they need to get their facts straight! 1. Escambia county schools go to school more days than the state requires. 2. When you are driving behing a teen who got their license two days ago with ice on the roads you WILL fear for your life. 3. One day of the EDUCATION process should NOT cost LIVES 4. It was 32 degrees at 1:30 today. I’m sure it will be ATLEAST 32 in the morning when everyone will be rushing to get to school. 5. They should be out for a break. I know we just came back and I know we are getting out for 2 days next week but we should have more time to study for exams. 6.GOT EM! So now that you have CORRECT information, Should schools be closed on monday?

My bus driver, I know for sure cannot drive in icy rain, much less even in broad daylight on a perfect day. And the way that my bus route travels comes across some really aggressive teen drivers. Putting us in these situations and circumstances is up to the school board. Well School Board, the spotlight is on you. A strict evaluation needs to be made.

  10. Ali on January 9th, 2011 10:16 pm

We shouldn’t have school tomorrow. Most of the kids I see driving at school are crazy drivers. Plus, I used to ride the bus to school before I had a different ride, and my bus driver was, and still is, a horrible driver. She drives WAY TOO FAST and isn’t careful at all. If we do have school tomorrow, I hope all the bus drivers and student drivers are very careful.

  11. HAVE A LITTLE FAITH on January 9th, 2011 10:13 pm

OK, FIRST OF ALL THE ICE WILL NOT BE ON THE ROAD UNLESS THE TEMP DROPS BELOW 32 AND I AM SURE OUR SCHOOL OFFICIALS WILL LET US KNOW AND MAKE THE RIGHT DECISON ABOUT SCHOOL CLOSURES HOWEVER I DONT THINK THEY WILL GIVE UP A DAY OF EDUCATION FOR A LITTLE COLD RAIN. LETS NOT TRY TO GET OUT OF SCHOOL FOR NO REASON, IF THE ROADS ARE TRUELY ICY THEN I AM SURE THEY WILL CLOSE THE SCHOOLS HOWEVER IF ITS JUST COLD AND RAINY, GET THE CHILDREN TO SCHOOL LIKE ANY OTHER NORMAL DAY OK.

  12. W on January 9th, 2011 10:05 pm

I’m glad to see some other people out there think like me. Thanks everyone lol But I agree about the teen drivers. I had not even thought about that. Not only is it not safe for them to drive but also some of them are pretty wild drivers. Yes we do have to put our kids on the bus, if not it counts as an absence and some are going for perfect attendance and also some don’t like having their child absent unless its doctors excused. Wouldn’t want to write the note saying “I don’t trust your drivers so I kept my child at home”.

  13. Student! on January 9th, 2011 9:46 pm

There should be NO SCHOOL!!!!! This is ridiculous!!! You want to prevent some horrible things!!! Ice on roads bus drivers who never drive in it!!! This should have a obvious answer!! There should be no school!!!!

  14. Kc on January 9th, 2011 9:40 pm

Better safe than sorry. The worst thing to do is send a bunch of buses and inexperienced high school drivers out on the road in Icy conditions. Sometimes the best decision is one made with public safety in mind (especially our youngest population). Lets have faith in our county’s administrative leaders to make the right decision.

  15. just call me joe on January 9th, 2011 9:24 pm

No, you don’t have to put your kids on buses. You make the call.

  16. NHS student on January 9th, 2011 9:23 pm

BOO! I hope school gets canceled, but if not, I hope all the students who drive are extra careful going to school. TONS of them drive crazy fast. Try to do the speed limit for once tomorrow.

“Tonight: Rain, mainly before 3am. Low around 35. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Breezy, with a east wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph” this was in an article on here earlier and that was for Escambia AL, Florida’s wasn’t much different. We are going to have wet roads and with these temps doesn’t that mean the water will turn into ice? And yet we have to place our kids on buses, only cause the news doesn’t have us in any kind of warning.
