Man Gets 50 Years For Walmart Rape, Kidnapping

January 27, 2011

An Escambia County man was sentenced to 50 years in prison Monday for the rape of a young Pensacola woman abducted from a Walmart parking lot on Highway 29 in Pensacola.

Willard Ray Crowder, pleaded guilty in November to sexual battery with a deadly weapon or force and kidnapping.

About 10:30 p.m. on January 1, 2010, Crowder abducted an 18-year old female from the Walmart parking lot. The woman told deputies that she was having car trouble in the parking lot when the man put a knife to her throat and forced her into the back of a van. She was driven a short distance before her attacker raped her. She was driven back to Walmart and dropped off, told that she would be killed if she reported the attack to authorities.

Crowder’s DNA was obtained from the victim, according to State Attorney Bill Eddins.

How sad. Lets see. He put a knife to her throat and ended up raping her, and he gets to live. How sad. I can only imagine the terror that completely engulfed her as this nightmare took place, and he gets to live. How sad. This incident will live forever in her mind and repeat itself often and he gets to live. How sad.

Glad to see the wheels of Justice grinding.

Kudos to the young lady that survived this horrible incident – I hope that she will be at every parole hearing to ensure this thug stays behind bars.

All law abiding citizens, particularly young women these days need to consider how to safely and legally conceal a firearm. Look for classes offered by volunteers of NRA, local police etc. Go online and purchase a quality pepper spray, or stun device. Do something! Defend yourselves. It’s your right. People are just too damn crazy and dangerous these days.

as horrible as this event must have been for the young victim, i am very proud of her, in that it seems that she bravely did everything correctly in order to complete the legal/justice process- to put this evil preditor behind bars- FOR A LONG TIME!

When I was out hiking the Appalachian Trail, people would ask me,aren’t you afraid being out there by yourself? My reply was always,”I am safer on the trail than in Wal-Mart parking lot.Seems like that statement is pretty accurate!
