Mr. Randolph McPherson, 96, of Atmore died Friday, June 25, 2010 at Atmore Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church in the Freemanville Community with Elder Edgar McCarthy, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in the Fairview Cemetery. Public viewing will be held from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010. His body will lie instate at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Mrs. Bobbie Mae Parker Dailey, 73, of Atmore died Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Century Nursing Care Center in Century, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Dr. A.L. Durant Sr., and the Rev. Willie Hawthorne, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in the Fairview Cemetery. Public viewing will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Family Hour being held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Her body will lie instate at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Tropical Update: Alex Churns In Gulf

Tropical Storm Alex entered the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday, and it is expected to reach hurricane strength by Tuesday night.
Alex made landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico Saturday night before crossing into the Gulf. The storm weakened to a tropical depression over land, but quickly reached tropical storm level over the warm Gulf Waters.
The current forecast says Alex will not be a threat to South Alabama or Northwest Florida, but it remains unclear what impact, if any, Alex will have on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill cleanup effort in the Gulf of Mexico.

Health Advisory Issued Again For Part Of Pensacola Beach

Effective immediately, in response to a report by the Escambia County Emergency Operations Center of extensive oil sheen, oil mousse and tar balls, the Escambia County (FL) Health Department is issuing a health advisory for the following beach waters in Escambia County, Florida, that have been affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill:
From the Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier west to the Pensacola Pass. This includes Ft. Pickens.
Consider the following tips for avoiding negative health impacts from an oiled shoreline:
- Avoid entering areas where oil can be seen (no wading, swimming or entering the water).
- Avoid direct skin contact with oil, oil-contaminated water and sediments.
- Avoid contact with dead or dying fish or other aquatic life.
- Do not swim or ski in areas affected by the oil spill, and if traveling through the area by boat take precautions when hoisting the boat anchor. If oil makes contact with the skin, wash it off with grease-cutting liquid dishwashing detergent and water.
- Do not fish in oil spill-affected waters.
- Do not harvest or eat dead fish, fish with oily residue, or fish that have a petroleum odor.
- Avoid boating through oil slicks or sheens.
- Young children, pregnant women, people with compromised immune systems, and individuals with underlying respiratory conditions should avoid the area.
- Prevent pets from entering oil-contaminated areas.
Those near Florida’s Gulf Coast may detect an odor because of the oil spill. Some people are more sensitive to these odors and may experience nasal irritation and feelings of nausea. In combination with seasonal allergies, such as sensitivity to pollen, or pre-existing respiratory conditions such as asthma, some people may experience more severe symptoms.
Individuals experiencing respiratory symptoms that are aggravated by the odors from the oil spill should consider:
- Staying indoors in air-conditioning and avoiding strenuous outdoor activity.
- If symptoms do not improve, contact a primary care physician or other health care professional for medical advice.
Individuals who have pre-existing medical conditions such as asthma or other respiratory illnesses should contact their physician if feeling symptomatic.
The health department is posting signs at the affected area; a copy of the sign is attached. Residents can participate in activities that are above the high tide line. If they experience respiratory problems, they should leave the area and contact a physician, as they deem necessary.

On the evening of Thursday, June 24, 2010, the Lord called another of His children home. Earl O. Kimbro was born October 5, 1923 to John P. and Carlie Garrett Kimbro in Florala, Alabama. While living in the community of Brent, Florida and attending Brent Primary School, he met Gladys H. Norris, the girl who in 1944 would become his wife. Earl Kimbro was a member of The Greatest Generation and served with the U. S. Army in France during WWII. He retired from Armstrong World Industries in 1988 after 27 years of service.
Earl was preceded in death by his bride of 52 years, his parents and brothers Nathan, Howard and Walter Kimbro, and his first grandson Robert David Kimbro. Mr. Kimbro was again blessed and married a second time to Elsie Manning. They were married for 10 years when Mr. Kimbro was called home.
He is survived by his wife Elsie, his children Bobby (Reba Gainey) Kimbro, Rev. Ron (Sharon Gainey) Kimbro and Rosemary Kimbro (Rev. Ken) Cook, step children Wayne (Linda) Manning, Alan (Debbie) Manning, Beth (Charlie) Dillard, and Karen (Royce) Tate. He is further survived by his brother Enzor (Edna Earl) Kimbro, sister Vernell (Byron) Tims and sister Elna Ezell.
Also surviving are many grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other family members and his furry friend and companion, his little dog “Happy”.
Services will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with visitation Monday, June 28 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Faith Chapel North with burial to follow at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church in Bogia, Florida, where he was a member.
Services will be conducted by Dr. Dale Patterson of East Brent Baptist Church and Rev. Nathan Brown of Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Ernie Able of Molino passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010 after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Fort Payne, Alabama on July 27, 1932 to Samuel and Lillie Abel. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Alabama. He served four years in the U. S. Navy and worked over 36 years in federal civil service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Frank and sisters, Mary Wilder, Fredda Hubbard, Juanita Street, Jamie Venn and Dixie Abel.
He is survived by his wife; Jean Abel, son; Robert Abel (Tammy), daughters; Susan Sullivan (Andy), and Laura Kennedy (Pierre), grandchildren; Sylvie Kennedy, Cathy Kennedy, Colleen Kennedy, Caroline Kennedy, Marcus Abel and Sean Abel.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Faith Chapel North in Cantonment. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Edna Grace Cross Wiggins, 86, formerly of Pensacola and Madison County, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home in Lee, Florida.
She was born in Crenshaw County, AL in the community of Pigeon Creek. She and her husband of 64 years, Lambert Dewitt, moved to Lee in 2005 after living 48 years on Camden Road, Pensacola, FL. She entered the U.S. Army on April 4, 1944 serving her country for a brief time during WWII.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker and loved cooking, working in her flower beds and baking the families’ favorite “Pound Cake!” She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Jay, Nicole, Mandy, David, Katie, Richie, Lenny, Allen, Butch and Jackie and her eighteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Richard Cross and Nina Olive Stallings; her siblings, Houston Cross, Carol Cross, Earl Cross, Joe Cross, Sel Cross, Lois Bennett, Velma Dillard and Mary McCormick.
She is survived by her husband, Lambert Dewitt Wiggins; sons, David (JoeAnn) Wiggins of Madison, FL and Roy (Rebecca) Wiggins of Cantonment and a daughter, Rhonda (Frank) Galbraith of Lee, FL.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with Reverend David Wiggins officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Home Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Douglas Dillard, Jimmy Dillard, Lenny Galbraith, All Galbraith, Butch Galbraith, Richie Wiggins, Jay Daniels and David Schrader.

Cornelius “Neal” Reynolds, 94, born August 18, 1915, to Stephen Parker Reynolds and Hattie Alabama McKinley Reynolds in Franklin, AL, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010 in Cantonment, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Reynolds; mother, Hattie Reynolds; first wife, Ollie Mae Mabrey Reynolds; second wife, Velma Buzbee; three brothers, Lester Reynolds, Carl Reynolds and Hunter Reynolds.
He is survived by his two sisters, Myrtle Norris and Dorothy (Dot) Drew; two daughters, Elaine Jones and Darlene (Terry) Boyett; two sons, Ronnie Reynolds and Dwight (Debbie) Reynolds; eight grandchildren, Travis (Jenny) Boyett, Holly (Mike) Milstead, Raymond (Laurie) Jones, Heather (John) Nicholls, David (Natalie) Jones, Megan (Matt) Ausbrooks, Logan Reynolds, and Clayton Reynolds; ten great-grandchildren, Jonathan Jones, Angelica Jones, Ember Reynolds, Zoey Reynolds, Nathan Jones, Connie Nicholls, Zachary Milstead, Emily Jones, Rachel Jones and Joel Jones.
The family would like to give special thanks to Linda Spencer, Hazel Smith, and Cathy Willis for all the tender loving care that they gave to “Pa”, and to Dr. Robert Flurry, his nurse, Karen, and his staff for their professional and prompt care.

Fred Owens Jr.

Mr. Fred Owens Jr, 83, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at a Brewton hospital. He was a native of Wilmer, Ark., and a resident of the Flomaton and Century area since 1971, coming from Bossier City, La. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, retiring after 22 years of service as a jet engine and missile technician. While stationed at Eglin Air Force Base, he received the Air Force Commendation Medal for rescuing a launched, out of control missile that could have done grave damage to the base. After he retired from the military, he worked in the oil fields as a technician. He was a member of Century First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lou S. Owens of Flomaton; four sons, Fred A. (Sharon) Owens, Terrance ‘Terry’ H. (Cynthia) Owens, Darrell (Kimberly) Owens and Tracy R. Owens, all of Flomaton; a daughter, Sandra L. (Donny) Hastings of Brewton; two sisters, Francis Wright of Lake Providence, La. and Kathlene Gideon of Dearborn, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Homer Stewart and the Rev. Gam Graves officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Cemetery with full military honors and Flomaton Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Kyle Owens, T.J. Owens, Mickey Sansom, Coby Owens, David Owens, and Charles Sansom.
