Walkers Push The Limits For Cancer Patient

December 6, 2010

About 30 people faced a cold wind and a three mile walk through Century Sunday afternoon to benefit cancer patient Nadine McCaw, a member of the Century Town Council.

“It was a long walk but was nothing compared to what she is going through,” said Joy Walker, who took part in the “Pushin’ the Limits” walk from the northern Century town limits at the Food Giant south along Highway 29 to the southern town limits and the Century Fire Station.

McCaw has is battling renal cancer and recently one of her kidneys and several lymph nodes removed. Her insurance, according to family members, was inadequate to fully pay for her needed treatments.

Other fundraisers are underway  for McCaw. Here is how you can help:

  • Large purple bows to show support are being sold for $6. The bows are available at the Century Town Hall, the Century Branch Library and at Southern Treasures (across from Whataburger on North Century Boulevard).
  • Donations can be made by PayPal to the address nadinemccaw@yahoo.com or at Pen Air Federal Credit Union on North Century Boulevard.

If you would like to purchase a Pushin’ the Limits t-shirt there are some still available at the price of $10.00. The entire $10.00 will go to Nadine thanks to the sponsors who gave so willingly to this effort. To order a shirt while supplies last contact Christy at the Century Branch Library.

Don’t be fooled by the somewhat small number of walkers who turned out for the “Pushin’ the Limit” event on Sunday for Ms. Nadine McCaw. The orgainizers of this event worked diligently and reached many of the citizens of Century who contributed even though the could not make it to the walk. My hat is off to the orgainizers and to the people of Century for their show of love and support for their fellow citizen, city leader, and friend…Ms. McCaw.

It started out cold, but it wasn’t long before I had to shed my jacket. It was a GREAT cause for Nadine. She got to see us off at the Food Giant parking lot. She was so touch about the out pouring kindness of others. She was really sick but she had to be there to see us off. Please keep praying for Nadine, she is a wonderful person and will do anything for anybody she has a big heart. Thanks to all of you who put this on for Nadine, and the ones who was able to walk and for the ones that donated that was not able to walk.God Bless you all.
