Wreck Victim Found Three Hours After Crash

December 29, 2010

A traffic accident victim was found hiding in the woods about three hours after a crash early this morning.

The single vehicle accident occurred around midnight on Pine Barren Road near Lambert Bridge Road. Authorities became aware of the wreck after a resident on Pine Barren Road reported a strange person on their porch to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies then discovered the van, which had flipped over, not far away. They also located a second occupant of the vehicle along Pine Barren Road. Neither man was seriously injured in the crash.

Both men told deputies that there had been a third person in the van that had fled into a wooded area. A complete search by the McDavid Station of Escambia Fire Rescue did not locate the alleged third person, and the search was called off about 1:30 a.m.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper working the crash could hear someone calling for help in the woods about 2:30 a.m. The McDavid Station of Escambia Fire Rescue responded to the crash site a second time. Firefighters found the man across a deep ditch in the wooded area about 2:45 a.m. He was reportedly suffering from hypothermia after falling into a creek.

Further details were not available Wednesday morning. The accident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

I believe it was the old Marine who said there was an old saying.

“The only ones out after midnight are lawbreakers and bad women.”

Of course we all know they could have been comming home from work
at midnight or one in the AM and they certainly could have avoided a deer.

I did hear gun shots all night at my place and this morning early.
They probably were trying to avoid a deer also!

as a matter of fact, cynical is correct…he did ‘wander’.
    concussions can do that!

@ Cynical – you are right about that. Two of them were knocking on neighbors doors asking for help, so most likely the third one just wander off in a daze. But since NONE of us were there, all we can do is speculate.

Like someone said in a post under a different story here – “You can’t fix stupid”……. The one in the woods was probably the driver and he and the other two were probably under the influence of something they shouldn’t be.

How about disoriented and poorly functional?

Maybe he “wandered” away, rather than “fled.”

  9. Ummmm on December 29th, 2010 10:15 am

Coulda been casing the area for a later burglary, too!

Why would he flee you ask? Driving without a license or drunk would be my guess.

  11. Wondering on December 29th, 2010 9:23 am

Strange that the thrid man fled. Wonder why he would do that? Glad nobody was hurt or killed..

Um, sure it was once again the fault of a deer??? People drive WAY to fast down that road. At least no one was seriously injured.
